Always seemed that if we lost a somewhat valuable starter for any length of time, that it could sink the ship when Hurney was in the Captains Chair. This feels....different. I think I like it.
-
Thank you. Feels good to have some extra picks, good depth (WOW), and the possibility of 4/5 starters/immediate contributors out of this draft, while making up for the Darnold Trade. Man, Hurney could never.

I can take a deep breath. Happy, very happy. Something I have rarely been able to say after any Panthers draft ever.

Round 6 (A) Deonte Brown - G - Alabama

Y'all think we wanted to get better in goal line and "inches to go". Dude can straight push most any DT backward...may not be athletic, but he's powerful. -
Round 5(a) - Carolina Panthers select Daviyon Nixon - DT- Iowa

What a snag. Love. A bit stronger up top and he may be a PROBLEM. -
I don't blame them if they are serious, why the heck not? That said, yes, I think they were sold, then did more research and started scratching their heads.
-
Thanks Nat. Very appreciative.

Oh, I agree with ya, wasn't trying not to. And no, I don't want players or coaches to even consider "tanking"....ever. You and I both think that Allen, for pennies on the dollar, could very well have outperformed Teddy last season...that's tough to stomach once you factor in the cost.
-
Honestly, I'd have been fine with that. It would have been a very smart decision. Save a poo ton of cap, and kept the 3rd comp pick. Flatly awful decision, and I will continue to blame Tepper.
-
Let's don't forget we have us drafting at 8 to thank him for as well. Kyle or Grier should have been the play, nope Tepper doing stupid stuff once again rules the day.
-
And here you were....almost talking me into hoping that Tepper had rounded a corner. Man...black cat and all...we are snakebitten.
-
I'm not astute enough at watching film to understand why, but man, Surtain just looks so much better out there to my untrained eye. Maybe it's the talent around him or better schemes from coaching?
-
I prefer Sertain to Horn for sure...while I wouldn't love that selection at 8, I could understand it. Would prefer to move back a couple and still get one of them and maybe grab a 3rd in the process incase there is a T in the 2nd that we want to move up to grab. Still praying that Sewell slips to us somehow.
-
No doubt about it...and then it will all be dashed away again if we stay at 8 and grab Horn. I'm with you though, I actually liked the Sam pickup, thought it was a smart way to not to HAVE to mortgage the future of the team on an unknown. Now, Sam is an unknown, but a 2nd is better than number 8 and next years 1 to grab Lance...at least IMO. And honestly, I haven't really had any major issues with this past offseason so far, other than CMC and Shaq having their contracts restructured...so maybe we are onto something. I certainly hope so.
-
I MUCH prefer Fields to Horn at 8....and I'm not a big Fields guy. If we are going to take a CB, trade back, recoup some spent assets, and at the very least go heavy on IOL in the 2nd...maybe even if a T falls.
-
I have really cut down on my drinking over the past year or so, this....this right here may send me right back to my watering hole.
-
We shall see in about 30 or so hours. Hope isn't really a method of completion though. The guy who owns the team, the one that really makes us all nervous, the one who kept Ron and Marty here when he took over, and kept Marty here 1 year after firing Ron...I mean, are we sure the "stupid" left, or did it just change it's name? When Tepper starts doing smart things, I'll start to trust the team again.
-
We are too stupid to do something smart like that. Been that way for a LONG time...but I don't have to tell you that.
-
If we lose Sewell by one pick, 1 year after losing Herbert by 1 pick I'm going to lose it. QB purgatory is a hellish place to be in the NFL.

I was finally able to snow ski again for the first time in 5+ years because of mine, was a relief and the entire time I was scared. Had to give up a LOT to be able to deal with the pain on a daily basis...about to start surfing again as well...can't wait. No more volleyball, wake boarding or water skiing, hell, I'm careful when I sneeze. I know they have better facilities than me (drugs and Dr.s who may or may not have the players health in the forefront), but still, back pain is absolutely brutal, every tiny bit of movement hurts sometimes.
-
Backs typically don't get much better, you just have to learn to deal with it. If he fell to the 2nd, I would consider him, especially if we go OT at 8, however not in the 1st, just too risky. 17 game schedule with the physicality in the NFL? Yea, that's gonna be tough. Hate it for him, hurt it originally doing a dead lift IIRC.
-
Here's the thing when it comes to this stuff. He's been high on your draft board, Bucky Brooks, and every other person who has absolutely no say in what actually happens in the draft. Fields could be low on every teams draft boards and the media wouldn't know it until things start slipping out...so maybe Zach wasn't a 3rd rounder, and Justin the number 2 overall like many were EXPECTING him to be? Mel Kipers mock draft means nothing, teams boards do, what you are seeing and hearing is the talking heads are finally getting more info...and we are confused by the shift.

Patriots have talked to the Panthers about a draft day trade
thefuzz replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
No effing way I'm trading back to 15 for a 1 year rental of a 31 year old corner on a building team with a $16M cap hit. Give me a 2nd Bill. -
Been there since we brought back Hurney...with fits of drunken rage here and there.
-
I mean, if we absolutely love Lance and he's there, I can certainly see us pulling the trigger...I just have a hunch we won't. In that scenario, we are likely hoping that someone else loves him and makes us a sweetheart deal.
