Not really random. He's no star, but he's been solid.

Honestly, I'm surprised that more haven't been intercepted.

Trapasso: Young's first few starts are concerning

When? Are you sure that was me? I was always skeptical of the Reich hire and said so. -
Trapasso: Young's first few starts are concerning
top dawg replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
To be honest, the word is already coming up, and that's inevitable and unstoppable. But I haven't seen a single person deny that Young actually becoming a bust is an impossibility. I have seen people, including myself--including Trapasso say that three games is much to early to form an opinion, and if there is been any shouting down (which seems hyperbolic), it's been about that. -
I'm a realist who tries to be objective before making up my mind. I have made up my mind about Frank Reich: nice guy, but uninspiring head coach whose not situationally adept, and whose product is not conducive to winning a championship. I've made up my mind about Scott Fitterer: out-of-the-box thinker who gets waxed in deals because he's unable to appraise the value of his own players and hold other GM's feet to the fire, as well as being a somewhat sketchy talent evaluator. Now, I haven't made up my mind on Bryce Young, and I think it's generally unfair to be making definitely negative statements about a rookie only three games in, QB or not. That being said, I am as concerned as any Panthers or Young fan about what I've seen. Chris Trapasso of CBS is concerned, but he has extra juice to back it up. "His efforts have been wholly uninspiring and ultra-conservative. They've lacked the creative brilliance we watched for two seasons at Alabama, and his weaknesses have been highlighted in each contest. "From a statistical perspective, Young's current 4.9 yards-per-attempt average ranks 249th out of 261 quarterbacks in modern NFL history (since 1961) to attempt at least 75 passes in their first three professional starts (rookie year or not)." "...even those who weren't completely enamored with Young -- like myself -- had to admit: the guy made tremendous off-script, outside-of-structure plays at Alabama look routine. "...Young's athleticism has been stretched to the limit. His pressure-to-sack rate of 22% is the 10th-highest in football (meaning he's been sacked 22% of the time he's been pressured). His overall sack rate is 9.6%, not brutally high for most rookie quarterbacks but decently alarming for a No. 1 overall pick who was tabbed as an improvisation specialist." Trapasso's concerns are legit, but he did like many people do and did not really provide any context regarding Young's specific situation. Comparing him to C.J. Stroud's situation just doesn't do it for me because he didn't mention play calling and coaching. To Trapasso's credit, he did say that Stroud hasn't "done extreme heavy lifting operating Houstons offense," and said that Texans receivers (who some try to downplay here) are getting open "much more frequently" than what's going on here, but he basically intimated that Young is getting shook by a less than stellar line, while Stroud seems unaffected. Trapasso also is suggesting that Young's best asset pre-draft was his improvisation. We've seen a flash or two of that, but I'd say that Young's processing was his best trait. All we can do is hope that with more experience and better coaching that things turn around. Otherwise, this is going to turn from an imperfect storm to the perfect storm to the sum of all fears. Let's hope that some of our fears are put to rest today. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/as-c-j-stroud-stars-for-texans-heres-why-bryce-youngs-first-few-starts-have-been-concerning/

No one else is going to give them anything more. A first and Jeudy is worth Burns.
-
The Panthers shouldn't have to pay any draft capital as long as Burns is included in a trade, Denver should be paying us.

Why isn't this thread closed yet?

I agree. But for his injury history, he's a good guy to have. At only 24, he hasn't even hit his prime yet. If he can get over the nagging injuries---which I understand is always a question---then he could be an excellent value at least through next season. And I still say he is a top tier route runner. You can easily see it as the second half of last season. Acquiring Jeudy doesn't necessarily have to do anything with Chark. They both have underperformed relative to their upside. If both can get it together, and stay here, then we'll be good to go. Chark is a legit 4.3 guy with great hands, Jeudy is an excellent route runner with legit 4.4 speed. Mingo is very physical with legit 4.4 speed (just as fast as Jeudy), and also has a lot of upside. That's a good receiving corps with a lot of potential. And I haven't even mentioned the old man Thielen. If a coach can't figure that out and how to put his prized rookie QB into a situation where he can maximize those weapons, and also grow with those weapons, then they don't need to be coaching.
-
Not quite sure how you're saying that Chark is more of a one "by a lot." Hell, Jeudy has been in the NFL two less seasons and has around 20 less catches and 220 less yards, and a higher yards per average. Chark has great hands, but is not the route runner that Jeudy is. I like Chark, and I hope that he works out here and extends. I don't see why there's even a comparison. Jeudy's presence would just open it up for the other receivers, including Chark. But, let's not pretend that the preponderance of GMs aren't going to pick Jeudy over Chark if it came down to that. But again, Jeudy's presence would help Chark, not hurt him.

That would be nice, but I don't see them letting Aiyuk go, nor do I see him being too happy to come under the present circumstances. But, you never know. I think any notion of obtaining him had to be in the calculus of the CMC trade (and that ship has sailed a long time ago). Honestly, we're likely going to have to draft a true WR1. We'll see. Moreover, I haven't given up on Mingo. With most guys, things take time. At the end of the day, we were desperate. That's why we traded our one.

Furthermore, @frankw, "big numbers" are a matter of definition. Like I intimated earlier, good receivers can put up 60-70 plus yards per game. You probably want more than a handful of TDs also. But, it's all relative and arguable.

I have never hated Moore. I have never gone on about Moore. If asked a question, I answered it. You act like Moore was all I ever posted about, and how bad he was. What I have always said about Moore is that he needs to be more consistent and score more to be considered a top tier receiver in the league, or a WR1. I've always said that. I also said that he needed to work on his route running. It all appears to be coming together, but it's going to take more than a few games to make me believe that he's finally turned the corner. Sorry (not sorry) if that doesn't jibe with your sensibilities. I was never a Moore hater, and for you to suggest otherwise is simply untrue, but do you and put on your show. As for QBs, that's what most WR1s do, even with average QBs, true WR1s produce consistently at a high level. Fields hasn't looked the greatest this season, or last or the one before that, but DJ has helped his stock go back up to such a degree that some are saying the Bears might keep him. Too bad that didn't work down here for Darnold. He's always been a good receiver, just not a great one perhaps until now. There is a difference between good and great. Smitty was great, and as a Carolina Panther, probably our only great one. If you don't agree, we'll, you just don't.

It was a sh¡t-worthy post meant to troll. That's weak, my dude. Stop trying to act like you're 100 percent right about your opinions. We both know it's not true. Moore is in his sixth year and is having a great start to the year. Is he Jefferson, Chase, Diggs? Maybe he's turned the corner. Great for him. Jeudy is in his fourth year and has unfortunately suffered injuries. Of course, this ain't really about Moore vs. Jeudy. The best thing would've been to keep Moore and probably draft Justin Fields (which I thought we were going to do). That being said, we're in the situation that we're in. Moore is gone, Jeudy has recently been shopped, Burns is going to be prohibitively expensive and remains unsigned, and we could use draft picks to try and make the best of a fuged up situation. I'm good if it happens depending on the compensation, and I'm good if it doesn't. Jeudy is young with upside who will only cost 13 mil next season. Now go back to low-key hating Bryce.

The Burns angle has already been explained, and it's not hard to understand. Jeudy isn't a WR1, but still has that upside in theory. We could certainly do worse. His main issue is injury history. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-final-2022-wide-receiver-rankings He's still in Mark Harmon's top 15 under 25, even if he has underperformed. "Jeudy has absolutely not lived up to his billing coming into the league, is quite inconsistent and is living off his past reputation as a route runner. However, I think he’s a solid No. 2 type of receiver and is a flashy big-play threat at the position. He’s also been moved around by numerous coaching staffs far too often in his career. I don’t need to see him as a slot receiver anymore. Leave him at flanker and let him get free releases against off-man coverage. That’s when he’s at his best." 1000 yard receivers even in a 16 game season only had to get about 63 yards per game.

Jeudy is the most realistic option says PFF (& bye-bye to Burns)

Not really high priced, and not necessarily a Band-Aid. That would have to be determined.
