  1. Nicks, Jennings, Moore, and two guys that may be a really hard sell to Our FO in Holmes and Mike Williams. Other than that, all I see is a big void of nothing until the draft.
  2. If Gettleman is willing to essentially give him another prove it deal, then why not take it and prove it? I just don't understand Nicks' reluctance to come home and grasp the bull by the horns. It seems to me that it would be fairly easy for a veteran receiver with his record of work to make himself invaluable to the team. Sure injury is always a risk, but, hey, with risks come bigger rewards. Otherwise, he just needs to be realistic, lower his salary expectations, and try to compromise for something that will allow he and his family a comfortable living. The market is just not there for him. On some level he is a victim of his own hubris, fear, inability to be realistic, or whatever it was that sent him to Indy. I don't know. In any event he was marginalized up there in that offense. If he can't stand out at home, then perhaps more money and fame just aren't meant to be. As for being a 1000 yard receiver, he essentially has to flip the script on the way his needle is heading. I don't know that he can do that, or would even need to do that in our offense to secure himself a modest $3 million per year and 5-6 guaranteed. That sounds about right for an injury prone WR3 (which reality says he is). But good luck to him, for real. Just tell him to live modestly and invest his money wisely, whatever he does. I know that he wished for more, but tell him there is something to be said for being a hometown hero. That goodwill could turn into some decent (and material) opportunities after all is said and done as well. But it all starts on the field. I guess there's no need to rush significant life decisions, but it sure would be nice if he would sign, work and start to build up some chemistry with Cam.
  3. 4 mil for Crabs is a bit much, but 1.5-2.5 for Nicks, Jennings or Moore wouldn't be bad at all.
  4. Would it really be a luxury pick? I mean, Stewart will be 28 tomorrow. Let's say that he has another good two or three years, presuming that he is with us (and restructures and all that), then he is bound to start slowing down. Gurley may just be entering his prime at the ripe old age of 23 or 24. And all this is assuming that Stewart can stay on the field for an appreciable amount of time. Whitaker just doesn't do it for me. He is a journeyman back who is good as an RB3, not a full time starter.
  5. More like: Son of a bitch, man. But in a good, tough love kind of way.
  6. Not signing Hardy was a year too late, so I don't think that's a good example.
  7. I wouldn't say that. It's all about BPA and value. However, Gettleman to pass rushing big men is kind of like me when it comes to Panthers paraphernalia. If it's cheap and it's there, it's mine.
  8. Nicks wasn't signed until roughly around this time last year, and his market has taken a hit, but that doesn't mean that he won't be signed. He would probably make a good WR3 with some upside on several teams.
  9. Gurley in the first, Agholor in the second, and Ogbuehi in the third would make me happy.
  10. Fear Gurley, Huddle! You should. {LOL like Vincent Price at the end of Thriller} Gooooooo Dawgs! Sick 'em! Woof woof woof woof!
  11. What, was this thread bumped out if desperation? Nothing new here.
  12. Denarius Moore visiting the Jets tomorrow.
  13. I honestly don't know the Browns' strategy. They have basically been flailing in the kiddie pool even though they are in no danger of drowning. What a sight.
  14. Thomas, didn't I basically say that in the first post you quoted (not to mention I confirmed it in the post afterwards)? Technically his position is WR, and that's what I was obviously referring to. Hence why I said that he was signed primarily to be our returner. I basically trust him as a returner, though I do note his drop off in production last season as a concern.
  15. I agree totally. I just don't think that Gettleman is going to put all his eggs in one basket with these two guys.
  16. If you think that Ginn fulfills our need for speed at WR, then watch Gettleman acquire someone else via draft. He is a career returner with decidedly small nondescript contributions at WR for a reason. Sure you can point to his one season here, but that was hardly earth shattering, and our resulting early exit from the playoffs just screamed "Upgrade!" Ginn's real value is as an upgrade to special teams, and hopefully his production will not continue falling off from last season.
  17. Ted Ginn and Michael Oher cannot be trusted at this point to sufficiently fill our needs at their respective positions. I will be shocked if we don't draft someone at each position to hedge our bets, so to speak. Indeed, I believe that the primary purpose of signing Ginn was for special teams and to provide depth at wide receiver, not to be our answer for a speedy receiver (in terms of moving further into the playoffs).
  18. I don't care if we use free agency or trades to HELP us win a championship, just as long as we win one. Both are valid and proven tools to that end. The trick is determining when to use these tools to supplement your team. Only a fool would say that you always have to take risks and/or pull out your bank roll to build a championship caliber team. Only another fool would say that you always have to keep your hands in your pocket. Like a good coach, the best GMs are able to develop a game plan and put it into action, but also continually evaluate a situation and adapt to attain and sustain success. I don't get why so many fail to see that. I guess people want to fool others and/or fool themselves.
  19. And yet, John Schneider in Seattle has made a ton of moves during his tenure. There's not one set way to build a championship team, the GM just has to know what he is doing, and why. The ability to adapt (and adapt on the fly) seems like the least appreciated part of being a GM as far as this place is concerned.
  20. According to Rap, after all is said and done, the Bucs will have paid Johnson 16 mil for 14 games. What a train wreck of a decision.
