Carolina likes last names that begin with B. First names, meh. Plus, Brandons only last here for so long. It's that black cat.

Well, no one said that we've got to do something out of silliness. At least I know that neither myself, Proudiddy or CRA have suggested anything of the sort. What we've suggested, and have been suggesting, is to make changes that make sense. Making changes that make sense, no matter how small, may marginally improve your situation, or just may surprise you with even more. Now, if you don't believe that it makes sense, then that's a different argument, but let's not be patronizing and make the discussion about someone being "silly". Furthermore, sometimes you have to do things in the short term just to get by. This is especially true when a crisis happens. You may decide to ride it out, or you may decide to do something on a temporary basis in such a way that the long term really isn't affected. That is possible. Sitting by doing nothing can be just as silly and detrimental to the long term as your suggestion that making a useless move would have. Short term responsibilities and long term responsibilities can be mutually exclusive, but they don't have to be. It just depends on how one wants to manage the situation. Edit: Basically, you can think somewhere between Gettleman and Hurney, and still make things work and get to where you want to go. -

No. The old logic that since we can't make a big change, we may as well not make any changes at all. "Oh, they're no good because teams have passed on them" kinda logic, regardless if teams are light years ahead of us regarding receiving depth. That makes no difference. Moreover, God forbid that Ricky Proehl can actually help make an ex-thousand yard receiver that flashed repeatedly in last season's playoffs just as good as he was when he went over 1000 yards. Ricky Proehl would hate to work with a receiver who actually showed that he could consistently be near WR2 levels and possibly a WR1 on good days. We'll just keep fielding the double Bs and wonder why we''re bereft of TDs. Gimme a break, Scot. -

If you think that Philly Brown and Brenton Bersin are better than Hakeem Nicks and Denarius Moore, then I have a piece of lakefront property in Florida to sell you. Any upgrade, however marginal that it is, or you may think that it is, is an upgrade. At the very least, simply because of their past body of work and the fact that they are still relatively young, should give them some benefit of doubt in regards to our lackluster receiving corps. That's just how it is. -

You know, on second thought. I remember when the Mustang 5.0s came out. The NC Highway State Patrol said that theirs would catch anything on the road at that time. Those 5.0s were some humming growling sumbitches! I fell in love with the way the car sounded because you could just hear the power. Well, I remember the first time that this dang blasted thing pulled up to my car. iI kinda looked like a mustang, and it said mustang, but I'll be damned if that thing growled like a mustang when it took off. They had bastardized Mustangs with 4 cylinder engines! I immediately labeled them "fake Mustangs!" I don't want no fake Mustang! Don't try to tell me that thing is a Mustang because it don't sound like a Mustang and it don't perform like a Mustang! I don't know what it is, but it's not a Mustang. I'd rather have a Corolla, Impala, Stratus, anything...but not that fake ass Mustang. -

What's the name of that Cadillac that came out late 80s-early 90s that was a poor excuse for a Cadillac? That's what Brown is. -

I know I have basically said it before in so many words (and it may have even been in this thread), that it seems to me that people just don't realize how...bland our wide receiving corps is (and I'll let people define "bland" how they like). To me it seems like it just won't take too much to spice it up. Sure we may not have the Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning (which is delicious on chicken, I might add), but perhaps that Supreme Tradition Salt Free Seasoning from Dollar Tree might do wonders for that flank steak that would otherwise turn out like unseasoned beef jerky without adding anything to it. -

What gets me is how many of you believe that there is just this big group of Huddlers that expects Gman to bring in a WR1. That is a myth. Personally, I haven't seen anyone say that. Help just means an improvement upon what you already have, especially in this situation. Now some of you may just want to overlook obvious help in your zeal to rail against some sky-is-falling narrative that may or may not exist, but there are other options out there that may be better than what we already have. Gman has already shown you that, regardless of whether you believe Norwood can help or not. -

At least part of the help is already here, regardless of whether people like it or not. I would bet that we bring in more, if not by next week, before September is out. But, even if we don't, Kevin Norwood is going to be here for awhile. In his impromptu interview on Tuesday, here is what Gman said: I think that he is going to be true to his word, and unlike our untrained eyes, he is going to see something of worth at the bottom of the barrel. He seems to think that he already has. -

Gettleman, Rivera and Proehl seem excited about Norwood. Plus, Proehl is teaching him all of the positions. This process is not going to happen over a few days. Norwood is a lock to make the team. -

No need to be almost certain, be certain. Gettleman is not in the business of throwing draft picks down the drain. He basically treats all of them like money, and has said as much. In so many words, that is. -

Well, that's what we were discussing, not whether or not we lost our top two receivers. Your response should have been to him, not me. The thing is, after all the discussion in this thread, we still need help at receiver. -

Matters of perspective are like looking at a diamond while changing angles in the sunlight. Sometimes you have to keep an open mind about which angle provides the best view...or at least realize that your view is not the only view, and not the only one that has a good angle behind it. -

Arguing about whether or not any team in the NFL would be hurting if they lost both their top two receivers is really immaterial. The whole purpose of acquiring depth is to provide insurance in case something unforeseen happens. Regardless if you value upside or not, upside is a major part of the equation of depth. if you can't understand that, then I don't know what else to tell you. -

Don't you dare suggest any more names in this thread, people will shoot them down because they don't believe that they have any value and are a bunch of scrubs. Lord knows that it is just impossible and illogical that they would be a better fit for the Panthers and possibly---if not likely---upgrade our group. -

That receiving corps is no where near as "shitty" as our 2014 corps. It has waaaaaaay mor upside. No one is saying there are a "ton" of teams that are stacked, just several of them (some being real competitors) that would at least be able to have a semblance of a passing game based on their upside alone. After KB and Funchess, there is no real upside. Some analysts even believe our WR is suspect even with a healthy Funchess. Why argue against upgrading a "shitty" corps? I will never know. Edit: let me put it this way, better to be in that number of teams, however big it is, than not. -

Well...right now we have Devin Funchess and Jerrislow Cotchery (both, on ice), Corey Brown, Brenton Bersin, Kevin Norwoord (the other Brown, Mucas, Byrd and Presley). That's an NFL starting caliber wide receiving corps right there! Did I miss anyone? -

I have read every comment thus far, and one thing that I believe that many (not all) people are failing to realize is the degree to which our receiving corps is constituted with JAGs. Sure it's highly unlikely that we're going to find a WR1 in the cuts post preseason in 2015. I am not going to use the word "myth" because anything is possible even if it is highly unlikely. That aside, for something to be a "myth" it has to be believed, and I don't think that anyone believes that we are going to find a WR1 in the group, nor have I seen anyone say anything to this effect. What I do believe, obviously contrary to others, is that there will more than likely be receivers cut who will improve our receiving corps, and I certainly believe that there are receivers that are WR3s and possibly WR4s on other teams that would immediately be better than anyone we can offer up at the time. Now whether or not we should or would trade for a higher quality of receiver is a different story. -

I absolutely get what you are saying about Rivera. One thing to keep in mind though is that he had a young team last year at key positions who were not ready to consistently contribute until later in the season. Some of it was due to injury, and some of it was due to lack of experience or being ready on each player's part. Both he and Dave Gettleman mentioned as much immediately after the season. I don't think this can be overstated. Rivera can only work with what Dave Gettleman gives him, and if that is an abnormally high percentage of inexperienced rookies or vets that are better suited in back-up roles, then the whole process of getting them "ready" may take longer than we'd like. Moreover, there is an argument that the whole culture of the organization is slow to make changes or adjustments in a timely manner from Jerry Richardson, to Gettleman, to Rivera and Mike Shula right on down. Perhaps it's just a matter of perception. The truth probably lies somewhere between reality and perception. As such, I can't give Rivera all the blame for the state of the wide receiving corps. Some of it is above his pay grade. But, he does get the lion's share of the blame for his coaching decisions while in practice, and basically all of it on the sidelines. People are so quick to say that preseason is about evaluation. The games are central to this process in my mind. And you can't just keep giving some opportunity after opportunity when things are going south to the detriment of others during such an important part of the evaluation. You have to think outside of the box sometimes. On the sidelines is where this is arguably most important. Overall I like the direction of the team, but all parties involved are going to have to resolve this problem of lack of depth at the wide receiver position with more than a few dollars and lip service. -
2015 Carolina Panthers Final Roster Projection

Pie for "whiplash", because that's what it's really like. Once someone shows you who they are, you better believe them...lest you get hoodwinked. Hype, rhetoric and grandstanding about competition and the best 53 making the roster will always be much ado about nothing. In the end, the more things change, the more things they stay the same. -

Well, knowing Gman and Rivera, you are probably spot on. They are conservative to a fault in just about everything they do. We will likely get similar results as the last couple of years provided that injuries don't sabotage the season. -
