Official Bucs at Packers NFC Championship Gameday thread
top dawg replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
They have one of the best passers in NFL history also, just saying! I've watched these guys! MVS can't carry the corps if Adams goes down, and neither can Lazard (whose hands also leave a lot to be desired). I think any of our top 3 guys could bolster the load if someone gets hurt. If Adams gets hurt, they can forget it. They won't beat top tier teams if Adams goes down. -

The Packers have a good receiving corps. I don't know where people got the idea that they're just running scrubs out there. It might seem funny to say, but most receiving corps are not up to the quality of our's, but they have a decent corps who play their roles pretty efficiently! -
That's why there are salary caps in the NFL. Plus, there are so many players involved, it's highly improbable that a "super team" can be created by buying players, or players trying to make bank as they create a juggernaut with their friends. It's just a totally different animal! That's why I could care less. Owners have far too much power IMO.

Fox analyst says he heard that Watson has interest in Panthers!

Although your tone was a little (maybe a lot) "extra", I think you're right. But really all that you had to say: At some point, if you have a franchise level QB, you're going to have to maneuver your team-specific contractual landscape. That being the case, this shouldn't be an obstacle to acquiring the most talented QBs in the business! At some point, if you're lucky, you're going to have to pay the piper! You're going to have to pay your guy, try and manipulate numbers to keep as many key players as possible, plan, and continue to make tough choices to try and keep the franchise in contention. These are things that the top franchises in the NFL do more times than not! It comes with the territory! -
Gantt weighs in on Deshaun Watson and Matt Stafford

Well, he did have a thumb injury. Just saying. He is somewhat of an injury risk, but once he got rolling from an injury-riddled first couple of season's, he played in every game up until 2019! He also played in every game last season. I wouldn't mind getting him, but only if we don't have to give up the 8th pick! That probably won't happen, especially with situations out there that are arguably much better landing spots like Indy! Yeah, Tepper is Tepper, Rhule is intent on churning the roster in the name of improvement, and Fitt's going to be in on "every" deal, but I think the possibility of Stafford landing here is low. We'll see. -
How soon will Deshaun and Houston be open to trade talks?

This is the Lying Season. You can't believe everything you hear. One thing I do know, is that if there is a deal to be made, it can be made! -

The whole point in getting Stafford is that we wouldn't have to sacrifice the farm, but we still might have to sacrifice the 8th pick! That may be too rich for my blood! -

Where has he personally made anything "clear"? Every report I've seen has said that we are a contender! We've seen some reports that says he is considering us in a positive light. I don't think we can say that about the Jets--maybe Miami, but they have the question of Tua! -

Stafford hasn't had a bad career. He was down a little bit in 2019 (where he may have been injured iirc), but 2020 was solid! In the right situation, his game may even rise! The Lions have been dog poo! We all know it! The man hasn't had the best support! Is he inspiring enough? Has he put the team on his back and won enough games in the fourth quarter? Has he had the supporting cast to do it with consistency? Or, has he shown consistency in that department notwithstanding fair to middling talent? These are the type of questions that we should be considering. -

If the price is too high for Watson, it may still be too high for Stafford. I wouldn't trade my 8 for Stafford! I'd go young! Of course it's all predicated upon our beliefs and desire about the 2021 crop of QBs. I should say "their" beliefs. I'm rolling with them, so whatever they decide will be good with me. -

It's not "common sense", it's a deduction based upon our circumstances! -

I've found Gantt's opinions to be gratuitously snarky, especially as it pertains to the Panthers, but his info isn't necessarily incorrect. He's always had some access--even more now, but this statement is not necessarily an endorsement or indicator; It's food for thought! -
Fox analyst says he heard that Watson has interest in Panthers!

Contractual obligations aside, if someone tells you that they're going to do something and fail to do it, they've lied. Moreover, I'm not going to bore you about a verbal contract, or leading someone on with lies in order to get them to sign the contract, but suffice it to say that a man's word is still supposed to mean something. In any event, McNair is a liar... https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2768551-bob-mcnair-i-regret-apologizi-inmates-comment-about-nfl-players ...and probably worse! https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.thestate.com/sports/nfl/article181508331.html I don't blame Watson for forcing his hand, and like I said, I hope that he plays hardball with McNair. -
Doesn't anyone else find it kinda funny that this story comes out on the heels of the other one?

I think you're correct about Huddle valuation, and I posted as much earlier in the thread. Many have us giving away the farm! I doubt it goes that way. It won't go that way! -

Ask the Rockets. They saw the writing on the wall and did the sensible thing. You think that paying top dollar for a backup QB won't affect the Texans' bottom line. How many games did they win last season, much less pre-Watson? -

I already know that most go broke, but that's because they're either ignorant or stupid. Watson is neither! -

If they keep him locked up in contractual purgatory, his refusal to play for them, or, worse, play under contentious circumstances that affect and effect the desired results, will bring them to their knees, and they're already pretty low! -

It sounds like you're putting 19th and 20th century antiquated solutions on a pedestal, but there's a better way to do things in this day and age... Anyway, Watson is already a multi millionaire, who literally has to never work again in life depending on how he manages his money, and will still be able to afford all those things that you mentioned. The fact is is that he has a modicum of control in this situation whether you like it or not! And, if he decides that he's done playing for the Texans, the trade will happen, and it's going to be to a destination that he wants to go to! That's the bottom line! -

Not only that, but Fitterer has earned his lunch money scouting mid to later round players and UDFAs! You can't be a scared motherfuger, and the Seahawks, as well as other successful franchises, aren't timid about trades or trading back and somehow still continue to compete year in and out!
