To Sign or not to Sign - Bridgewater vs Draft. DRAFT
top dawg replied to CPcavedweller's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's the height of naivité to think that we're going to purposefully set ourselves up to lose! That's not in a professional player's or coach's DNA that turns out to be a winner! Period! -

Yeah, what you're doing us saying that we should set ourselves up to lose in consideration of draft position. That's NOT what winning organizations do. Period! That is NOT a realistic alternative, nor will it ever be! A cookie for being right about Teddy! The only thing I ever said about Teddy is that I didn't mind us giving him a chance because what's done is done. What I've also said, from the very moment that I learned about his contract, is that I was surprised at the amount and the structure! So you're basically talking b.s. -
Good! Atta boy, youngster! If only your football takes went just as well!

Try to put whatever lipstick that you want on the pig, inherent in your thought process is us purposefully tying to play to lose--to tank! That's not going to happen! If we're going to go down the drain, it will be the old-fashioned way. -
And you're wrong about me being wrong, per usual.
-
We're on the same page!
-
My day is great! I suspect that yours aren't considering the same old tired modus operandi you use when someone challenges your b.s.

I do find it pretty disingenuous of you @stbugsto try and insinuate that I don't know how important stud QBs are though. That's not even an argument. -

You're entitled to your opinion! -
Yeah, whatever with all your dramatics... I have been as consistent as anyone saying that Lance will take time to transform into a pro. I have consistently said that all he needs is development (as any QB transitioning from college) and reps! I stand by it. There are no reservations, no pontifications and no vacillations!

Not that I fully disagree, but we don't know if he could be the long term answer. There are some things to like about him. "...Minshew has started 20 games, compiling a 7-13 record. His NFL production has been respectable if not overwhelming or eye-catching. Minshew’s posted 37 touchdowns, 11 picks, 7.2 yards per attempt and an only-0average 93.1 passer rating. "Those stats can be deceiving, though. Jacksonville has fallen on hard times since their 2017 squad pushed the Patriots to the brink in the AFC Championship. They lack playmakers at too many positions to even count, which was the main reason they finished 1-15 this year and wound up with the first pick in the draft. Minshew has a strong rapport with the underrated D.J. Chark, but there’s no true WR1 on their roster. Truth is, he could have done a lot more with a receiver corps as stacked Carolina’s. "Some of the advanced stats suggest Minshew’s a diamond in the rough, too. According to Pro Football Focus, he had the NFL’s third-highest passer rating against the blitz this season. In addition to being sharp against pressure, Minshew is far more accurate than his completion percentage suggests and his on-target throw % was among league leaders all year. "On film, Minshew has a gorgeous deep ball and plays the position fearlessly, if a little reckless at times. His aggressive instincts are worth encouraging though, especially after the checkdown parade we just witnessed from Teddy Bridgewater. "Overall, his game is still a bit raw. However, in the right situation Minshew could have a shocking breakout type of season similar to the one Josh Allen just had in Buffalo. "Minshew would be a grand bargain from a contract perspective, as well. His total cap hits over the next two years come out to less than $2 million, which means Carolina could easily make room for him without having to move Bridgewater and his ill-conceived bridge QB deal. Even better, dealing for Minshew might only require one mid-round pick." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/lists/panthers-quarterback-trade-options-sam-darnold-jalen-hurts-gardner-minshew/ In the sense that there will be a QB given up on too early like a Drew Brees or Jim Plunkett, depending upon your situation, you can't stop looking for him.
-
Yeah, trying to move the goalposts again by saying that I said that you said he wasn't a first round prospect. You know he's a first round prospect. That's too damned easy. You just like to talk negatively about him like he's not! I think you're chicken poo for not being man enough to admit what you said and the manner in which you said it! It's OK to clarify statements that beg for clarification. It's OK to change or modify your opinion once you gain more facts. What is not OK is to act like you were always on board with Lance when from your statements, you clearly weren't.

That's what I thought!

Did you not say that you didn't want Lance (full stop)? Did you not say that you hope someone else gets Lance (full stop)? Yes or no?

And you still haven't come up with any alternative of we're stuck out on the cold, which is very possible, especially now that the 49ers decided to give up the farm to move to three. All you're saying is that we should jettison Teddy under any circumstance and "Damn 2021!" If we do damn 2021 (or any year), that could have adverse effects and repercussions for years to come! That's not what winning organizations do. In fact, it's what losing organizations do. -
That wasn't in quotes. The "without qualifications" part was a description of what you said and the context in which you said it. You said that "I don't want Lance," or something almost verbatim, and you know you did!

Well, stop with all the pontificating about Fox and Rivera B.S. I'm sure we'll do what we can to move up within reason! If we can't, we're just going to have to hope for the best and grin and bear it! It's all a cost-value analysis. We apparently didn't want to pay what Frisco was willing to pay to move up, and we weren't willing to pay what the Rams were for Stafford. I would say that's probably a good thing. This isn't a one-year process! We have to look towards the future, even in our zeal to move on from Teddy. -
You said you didn't want Lance without any qualification, that's what you said. Own up to it!

And, just like I told you earlier, your thought processes that say we should set ourselves up to lose is more akin to any Foxball or Rivera chicken poo era than anything! -
Yeah, you moved the goalposts when it became apparent that he is a legit first round prospect. When you said you didn't want him, there weren't any qualifiers. As a matter of fact, you said that you hope someone else takes him.

Who has said Teddy is the answer? That's simply hyperbolic poppycock! Most here are saying that he isn't the answer, but no one has given any definitive solution to who is a better answer right now! There are better answers, but we either have to give up the farm, or roll the dice and hope that some thus far imperfect, middling talent shows better than Teddy did in 2020. -

Easy to say when someone has had a significant injury. -
Yeah, he said he didn't want Lance. You've said Mond is a better prospect than Lance. Both of y'all aren't Lance believers!
-
Exactly. It was a game to game issue!

Yeah, play calling in the red zone was downright sh¡tty sometimes!
