Not quite. What I said is that he isn't responsible for the final number. It's his job to make all the numbers work. Apparently he must do a pretty good job of that because he's well-respected across the league. Come on, now. Don't be a Scot!
-
I think that that's a somewhat simplistic perspective, especially in light of the fact that the qb-needy teams in question all came out at relatively the same time with essentially the same tweet: "Not interested!" And they didn't even officially kick the tires on him to see what his actual needs are? Are you kidding me? We don't even really know what Lamar is demanding because no one has offered him anything but the Ravens pre-tag. But it's all a coincidence...

Kinda hard to blame Suleiman for the final contract numbers. That's above his pay grade. That's a Rhule and/or Fitterer issue.
-
I mean, technically you're right, but that doesn't mean that that's all that he does. And who knows, his role could have expanded, especially with theore knowledge that he shows. I mean, he is being groomed to be a GM. "Fitterer said that Suleiman could also help the front office in player evaluation." https://www.panthers.com/news/panthers-promote-salary-cap-manager-samir-suleiman

If... AR drops to 9, do you take him then?
top dawg replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
I wouldn't, but I'll be good if he's the pick. I'm going to trust management unless things start going sideways. We have some smart, thoughtful and experienced football people in the house. I'd be surprised though. -
It doesn't sound like Tepper has him locked in the corner of his office crunching numbers. Sure, that's his primary job, but Suleiman has a wealth of experience that the powers-that-be are open to and benefitting from.

I didn't here anything like that (not saying it didn't happen). I mean I did here something about white owners not allowing a black QB telling them what to do, but I thought that was a more offhanded type of remark and I don't remember who said it (host or guest). They have intimated that there's possible collusion, but so have a few of their guests. Sam Acho, a past exec of the NFLPA, said that collusion is hard to prove and mentioned Collin Kaepernick as an example. From what I heard, race hasn't really been a primary object of the discussion.
-
That's great, but Reich specifically mentioned that he, the Teppers, Fitterer, Morgan and Suleiman are part of a collaboration to basically get the team to where it needs to be. Suleiman is part of the inner circle. Let's not get it twisted.

Will Brinson says what many are thinking: "The idea of Baltimore dangling Lamar to the entire league, and no one having ANY INTEREST WHATSOEVER, is just wild. A 26-year-old former MVP simply DOES NOT become available in the NFL with no interest from other teams. "And not just no interest but a very quick lack of interest from a host of teams who have been aggressively pursuing quarterback solutions for the last 3-5 years. "There's a virtually zero percent chance of anything happening here. Good luck proving a bunch of NFL owners don't want to acquire Lamar Jackson simply to suppress a rogue contract given to another player in a similar situation just a year ago. But that reality makes a lot more sense than the idea of no one even wanting to consider acquiring a 26-year-old former MVP." Yeah, he pretty much lays it all out, including using the Panthers as a prime example of how nonsensical all this is. "The Carolina Panthers are largely irrelevant on a national stage. The Panthers with Lamar Freaking Jackson? That's a team getting multiple primetime games every year and the immediate favorite to win the NFC South..." Yeah, we've been largely irrelevant on a national stage since Cam's downfall. It still stings for Brinson to say it. People, especially in NFL circles, have bought into the narrative of Moneybags Tepper being hellbent on landing a franchise QB though, even if it makes him seem kinda like a clown (at least how Brinson wrote it). "David Tepper has been rejected multiple times in an attempt to trade for a franchise quarterback, including Watson, Matthew Stafford and -- not even joking here -- Carson Wentz. Lamar Jackson's on the block and he doesn't even want to check in on what it might take to acquire him? Again, sure." I mean I think that it's only the naive that can't smell a rat. There certainly seems to be something fishy going on, but as an old Fox used to say, "It is, what it is." Not paying Lamar like Deshaun Watson has obvious justifications. Hell, not paying Watson like Watson had justifications. Mind you, this Lamar Jackson story is far from over, but we'll see what happens when the brash and charismatic Joe Burrow is on deck. Brinson's piece is compelling to say the least. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/no-nfl-teams-want-to-acquire-lamar-jackson-and-the-reason-why-seems-painfully-obvious/amp/

You'd think, but some need an annual reminder. He mentioned "production" as well, but that has escaped some as well. This thinking kinda goes hand in hand about what Person said about AR.

JOE PERSON: Panthers will not pursue Lamar Jackson
top dawg replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Perhaps. But unlike what some believe here, I don't believe that he's anywhere near done, and even if he sits out a season, he's still a top franchise QB in his prime. -

This is just a part of a game. I've heard a few people say on the boob tube today say that there's no way he's playing for that. -

Yeah, but has it changed that much? -
It's a business, and all the players know it. Some may have been mad, some not. You seem to be relishing in the fact that Jackson didn't get any offers today, but this process is just beginning. Just like I told you that no one was going to sign Carr out of the gate (unless they were stupid), it's not realistic to think that anyone would offer Lamar a contract today. It's not even realistic to think that he would sign the offer today considering that he has until week 10 of the regular season to sign it, and that's even if he signs it at all. If nothing else it's the lying season, so I wouldn't exactly take everything at face value. Even still, like I said, the process is just beginning.

Teams don't want to give huge guaranteed money to anyone. BTW, the "hand" is not over. -
The Ravens can’t be this dumb? They’re a smart organization right?
top dawg replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lamar doesn't have to play. He can easily sit out. -

I doubt that he plays for the Ravens again. -

Hell, Hooker is probably better than at least two of them. -

Well, the NFLPA has filed a grievance over owner collusion to stop guaranteed contracts.
