I would look it up if I were that interested. All I know is that Lance is developing pretty nicely so far in San Fran. He's not necessarily going to start, bit he's making strides, if nothing else but mentally. He's developing his pocket presence as opposed to just defaulting to his legs. He's displaying the kind of traits that speak to his adaptability to any system, so it wouldn't be the first time a staff has been wrong.
-
No, what I think is that if we weren't interested in Lance, then it wasn't because he wasn't a good fit. It could have been that they didn't want to take, or have, the time to develop him.
-
I'm skeptical of anyone that says Lance wouldn't fit their system, so much so that I simply don't give that report much veracity. I heard more than one scout say that he'd fit any system, such was his skill set, versatility and malleability.
-
LOL. I'm sure they "considered" it as a matter of course. But no one outside of them knows for how long or to what extent.
-
And we knew they were taking Wilson.
-
Yeah, Darnold's our guy for better or worse. He was ultimately the pick! Now, Rhule is in the process of building Sam--not fixing Sam--into the Panthers QB. I'd say they chose Sam irrespective of Wilson, Lance and Fields. Sam is our man, and those guys will likely never be.

Unless some team official says something, you have to take it with a grain of salt. For example, Person also said that we were intrigued with Fields. I guess, not enough to draft him. We pushed enough chips in on Darnold to lose the "intrigue", if there ever was any. I mean, it's not like Fields was an unknown quantity, so why would we be "intrigued" with him? There was enough tape on him to dispell any notion of intrigue. I think Person was either full of it or just a pawn in a game of smoke and mirrors. As for Jones, I never believed the 49ers were enthralled with him, and they were reportedly not going to draft Lance either.l, but then they did.
-
I was thinking the same thing, but you said it oh so much more colorfully. At least Rhule seems more open-minded. He's certainly more of genuine team builder IMHO. Not that he doesn't know what to do with it, but Saban gets the best.

Let me add that Zach Wilson had a rough day, but for his first pass. Let's not overlook that. https://www.nj.com/jets/2021/07/jets-zach-wilson-struggles-in-1st-training-camp-practice-after-contract-standoff-how-will-he-rebound-observations-takeaways.html

Perhaps, but at that point, we probably knew that it was a waste of time anyway, as the 49ers were already all-in, and we didn't want to spend the draft capital and decided that there was a better value.

Confirmed? Don't tell me by Joe Person.

I just read somewhere (maybe on the Huddle) that as soon as Rhule was hired that Teddy was destined to be our QB last season. So, I don't know, I blame both of them and think that Rhule and Brady were on the same page as far as handing the reins to Bridgewater.
-
Good points about people making value judgments on whether or not the Panthers--Rhule--generally values the QB position. I will say that it was Likely Lance and Wilson that were specifically valued at pick 8. Lawrence was never ever a possibility, and our FO, just like the whole of the NFL, knew that.

Two or Three QBs, what difference does it make?
top dawg replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, hell, let's hire Kelvin Benjamin as the backup QB then. Better yet, let's go with one QB for all it's going to do for Grier and Walker to see live fire. -
LOL @ Teddy-Darnold types. They're totally different QBs.

Man, I'm telling you, we mention it in passing, but probably don't talk about it enough. Honestly, our QB room is simply sub par. It seems like Matt Rhule and Scott Fitterer are keen to upgrade this team from the bottom up at all times. The questions at left tackle are obvious. The questions at safety are maybe a little less obvious with Franklin, Burris & Hartsfield (if you believe in them and/or coach-speak), but obvious nonetheless. We've also worked out at least one notable guy on that score. But, what in the world is our problem at QB? We always hear Rhule being Rhule in reference to Walker and Grier. The man is positive, motivating, and edifying to his guys, but sometimes, as a fan, effervescent but effectively hollow compliments become nauseous. With our backup QBs, things have seemed in a state of inertia for at least a year. As a fan, I've gotten to the point where I really don't believe that there will be improvement, much less a chance in hell that we'll be competitive if Darnold goes down for any length of time (and there are general questions about our QB room even if he stays healthy). It seems like--I don't know--80 percent of the time we hear something about the backups from anybody but Rhule and company, it's decidedly negative or simply neutral. There's no growth, no development, nothing to be enthusiastic about...they're just there doing what they've done since they've been here which is much of nothing...until they get out on the field during games and ultimately stink the joint up. I mean, it's "meh" multiplied. Now before someone comes in and says "Basically, all the teams are screwed if their backups have to play", well that's not the fuging point (and isn't necessarily true). We can't even fool ourselves into thinking that Walker and Grier are sufficient anymore. They're third stringers (possibly) masquerading as possible second stingers. Meanwhile, you have a guy like Gardner Minshew saying that, "No. 2 is not an option for me." We need to upgrade our QB room, period! And it needs to be a priority! The only other thing I can think is that somewhere in the calculation of risk-reward analysis, someone or ones in the FO is willing to throw the season and cash all the chips in--tank--for someone new in the event that Darnold goes down. To me it's all just a little perplexing and very unsatisfying either way.

"The thing about playing quarterback is when something goes wrong--like, when somebody misses a block--you gotta make it right. You know, like, every play is really on the quarterback position" Don't be fooled, Matt Rhule is a coach with high standards and has a mindset about the way that things should go. In his presser, he said that it's not that he doesn't want Sam Darnold to be a leader, Rhule wants him to focus on being a QB. Rhule has said similar things in the past as he did in today's presser about how some QBs have been in the same system for years--a decade. He emphasized that Darnold has only been actively in this system for a few months. He is effectively viewing Darnold like a rookie in regards to how and what Sam needs to learn to lead this team on the field, but the quote above is the end goal. At some point, there will not be the excuse of a missed assignment from an O-lineman. Sam will have to master the position, notwithstanding the mistakes of of others, put the team on his back, and ultimately get the job done, as that is the end game. 14:27

Jermaine Carter is going to beat this dunderhead out anyway.

He says he's 210 and closer to 6'4".

Good one, Voth.

I guess we can live with Horn intercepting Darnold...I guess...No, not really.

@Zod, FYI, I deleted all browser history and cleared the browser cache, now I'm back in business...lucky for you!

Testing 1,2,3...if you can see this, then I have successfully posted from PC That being said, I don't know why my phone isn't playin nice, but perhaps I'll troubleshoot. Anyway, all I wanted to say in this thread is that if Omar Bayless dodges and escapes any notable injury in August, then he will make it before David Moore. Mark it down!
