  1. They probably grade kickers like they grade QBs...
  2. "PJ wins backup QB spot" Not really. He was NOT better than Grier during the preseason. Like 41% of his passes completed. That's not QB2 material.
  3. Glad you clarified. I was really confused by your comment. Walker is highly inaccurate. Anyone that can't see that must be crosseyed.
  4. He needs to become proficient at blocking. It's the only way he'll stick.
  5. I know, right. Hurney wouldn't even do that... The Jags got a 6th for Minshew. Fans need to keep their perspective.
  6. Luvu! Anthony Rizzuti of Panthers Wire brings up a good point: "Frankie Luvu has made splashes all throughout the summer for Carolina, through impressive outings in practice and impactful performances in preseason play. And that preseason play has not gone unnoticed over with the eyes at Pro Football Focus." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2021/08/30/panthers-lb-frankie-luvu-preseason-pff/ Show that kid some luv! I'm not sure that Rhule or Fitterer knew what they were getting with this pretty good depth player, but they get some credit for throwing a lot of darts at the target.
  7. Anyone that would be happy with a ceiling of Alex Smith has lowered their expectations. Alex Smith's a nice backup--was a nice backup.
  8. Hell nah! Edit: Because of the way the question was asked, hell yes!
  9. If we do, he might light the opposition up.
  10. I always suspected it, and kinda scoffed a little bit when many jumped on Igo's thread about Grier being cut. IMO, Grier has shown marked development, whereas PJ has not. My mouth isn't a prayer book though, and I sometimes seem to take a harder if not harsher stance on some things than some--maybe take an it's-a-business approach more literally. One thing I like about Rhule and Fitterer is that they appear opportunistic regarding upgrading personnel when it makes sense from a value standpoint, but to me they take a longer than necessary time before making the "cutthroat" decisions sometimes. Let's hope a backup that moves them is cut, and allow Grier to continue to develop his game behind the scenes.
  11. You might want to listen to this. Based upon this, I don't think Spencer is making the cut, but will be on the PS. Trenton Cannon will make the squad based on ST alone. I had thought Omar Bayless would make it, but after listening to Rhule (who did NOT mention Omar)...Let's just say I don't remember Bayless standing out on ST (not to say that he didn't). I think that there may be a little bit of a disconnect between what fans are seeing and looking for versus what coaches are looking for. And add in the fact that we aren't privy to practices and the dynamics of all the team building, and it may add to some disappointment. I'd suggest not being overly disappointed...
  12. Josh Allen mostly dink and dunked last night and struck long on a couple when the timing was right. Sam Darnold can do that if he has time.
  13. Look! I know everyone wants to feel good and all that, but Friday's performance should be taken with a block of salt. Cherry picking a stat makes the total picture even blurrier than it already is. The fact is, this doesn't provide a clear picture as to what went on, and what is likely to go on in the near future. Their twos ( and maybe some threes) were going up against our ones. Just objectively consider the outcome had we been going against Watts, Heyward, Tuitt, Bush, Schoeberg, Highsmith, Edmunds, Sutton, Fitzpatrick, Haden and whoever else. Instead of getting legit dicey, it may have gotten extremely ugly. It would be nice if PFF gave compete grades, but I can't find any. At least we'd have something clearer upon which to base expectations. Let's not go crazy with the enthusiasm based on that game.
  14. Half its starters? I don't think so. I was hoping to find a list, but this will suffice. I couldn't tab any of their defensive starters on Friday in a lineup. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-preseason-week-3-game-recap-carolina-panthers-34-pittsburgh-steelers-9 I don't think they had any starters out there.
  15. I think so too, but I'll leave this here FWIW. https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2021/08/23/panthers-wr-shi-smith-is-offenses-highest-graded-player-by-pro-football-focus/
  16. Some things just don't make any sense. Some things just make too much sense. That is beginning to look like Rhule's kryptonite.
  17. I listened to an interview and he doesn't sound like a guy that wants to be retired to me.
  18. Might be better off at the Motel 6.
  19. I could argue that the Dolphins have been more open than us. And, like you say, Tua has been on fire, so much so that Dan Orlovsky, who dogged him out months ago, has changed his tune rather dramatically (especially for him). I would say that according to their respective handling, there are many more questions regarding Darnold than Tua by their respective FOs.
