  1. If he really wows it out during the next three months, I could see a two or three.
  2. I believe that people are simply mentioning Pickett because of the tie to Rhule. If Rhule drafts him just because of that, this will end terribly.
  3. Give them Mahomes or Burrow among others, Bears likely win. Grossman wasn't a legit franchise QB.
  4. It takes a team to win. Some positions may be more important on their face, but I'm old enough to have seen Darrelle Revis and Deion Sanders. Shutdown corners are as still as important as ever, especially when you have these big talented beasts playing wide receiver. Now I'm not claiming anyone as Prime or Revis Island, but when you have a corner that hasn't allowed a coverage TD in his college career, you can't just can't assume that he won't move the needle (and I disagree wholeheartedly that 59 didn't move the needle). Moreover, drafting and team building is not an exact science, and it's not simple. Generally, you want as many talented players as you can get and keep it moving.
  5. You don't build teams by picking players who aren't as talented just because they are in a position of need. You use free agency to try and fill needs so that you can pick the guy with the most talent. I'm sure that most people said that Chase was a luxury pick for the Bengals, but look where they are. Sure, their line sucks but they can get that fixed, probably relatively easily. At this point, we can't declare CB a luxury pick because Jackson and Gilmore are very much up in the air. Mind you, I want an OT, but I think it's preposterous to draft one just to be drafting one. Neal, Ekwonu or Cross seem to be the goods, but if they're gone and you can't get sufficient compensation to trade back, you have to pick the BPA.
  6. I hate mocks, but I had to post this one just to troll...kinda. Carolina Panthers SELECTION: Ahmad Gardner, CB School: Cincinnati Year: Junior Taking an offensive tackle could be the initial plan here, but in this scenario, the cornerback greatly outranks any OT left on the board. Gardner teams with last year's first-round pick, Jaycee Horn, to give the Panthers a dynamic duo on the island. I think Bucky Brooks' prognostication of Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner brings up a couple of important points. 1. Analysts still don't believe that a QB is worth the number 6 pick. 2. If the top three tackles are gone--a possibility--then Sauce just may be the BPA. Now, I would figure that Bucky Brooks knows a little something about the Panthers being that he was a scout for the team. So, notwithstanding the talent that we have at the position now, I must assume that he assumes that someone's not going to be resigned. I really am beginning to think that the oft-injured Donte Jackson will test the market, and I'm not so sure we'll be able to keep Stephon Gilmore either. In any event, would the FO really want to pass up on Sauce Gardner if the OTs are gone? I would think, only if someone blows our socks off with draft compensation in this year's draft. Gardner really does have the sauce. https://www.nfl.com/news/bucky-brooks-2022-nfl-mock-draft-1-0-kenny-pickett-matt-corral-only-qbs-selected
  7. I don't know what these old heads are talking 'bout; This old head will take just about anybody over Darnold.
  8. Cowher did it long before Payton. But for Neil O'donnel throwing an INT, it would've been just as impressive.
  9. I'd like to see that quote, vid, whatever you got. I don't believe it exists.
  10. Before this season started, I'd have picked Ridder. Now that it's over, I'm probably still picking Ridder. I like Corral, but his injuries bother me. I am intrigued by Willis. I am kinda reluctant about Pickett and Howell because of a limited ceiling due to athleticism.
  11. People keep talking about Pickett, but he doesn't even have to be the be round 1 material. I think Pickett can play in the NFL, but at what level is the question. I know it may not be totally reasonable, but honestly any QB that Rhule tried to recruit gives me pause.
  12. It's probably the least valuable one, as I suspect he's going to be traded on or before day 1 of the draft.
  13. Like Bart Scott said, "It ain't too easy without Breesy!" Payton left when the going got tough...
  14. There is something to say about talent level of your team, particularly in college. Just saying. Clemson, though not Bama or my alma mater, is going to have markedly more talent than UNC.
  15. Ridder might end up better than either one of them, and is certainly in discussion of a first round pick. Ridder could stand to bulk up and Corral is smaller than him (and injury prone). Willis is as raw as steak tartare. Just saying.
  16. Pickett's hands could be unusually small, I don't know. But show me where Pickett had substantially more fumbles than Burrow and it might actually mean something.
  17. In light of talking about Kenny Pickett, I just had to get to the bottom of this small hand thing, and I felt it needed its own thread, and I think that it should be required reading for intelligent fans like we have in the Huddle... Now, you can believe what you want to believe, but to me the whole premise just sounded like bullshit, which is why I looked it up in the first place. In my experience, small hands does not equate to hand strength or one's ability to grip a football. It just made no sense to me. That being said, I like to research things and give them their fair shake. I have not been able to find one credible thing that verifies that small hands makes for a deficient QB. Like I said, believe what you want, but if nothing else, Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes should give you pause. https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2020/story/_/id/28770715/why-nfl-combine-built-myth-qb-hand-size-measurement-mean-anything
  18. It hasn't been published yet apparently.
  19. McAdoo damned well better have not only insight but influence if Rhule wants to keep his damned job.
  20. I mean, you can probably say that for any team anywhere, and yet life goes on. Coaches come into fuged up situations all the time. That being said, I'm generally not a proponent of using future draft capital on anything but sure first round level talent.
  21. I just can't get with that reasoning. If you feel you see a future franchise QB, you've got to take him. Joe Burrow's line is pure tee sh¡t, but the Bengals reached the division championship. They skipped Sewell in favor of what looks like simply a beast of a receiver too. You just can't skip franchise QBs because your O-line isn't up to par. You set yourself up the best that you can in free agency. And, no, I'm not saying Howell is that guy, but if you think he is, or anyone, then you must jump!
