Remember the Twitter thread about Wilks and Snow arguing?
top dawg replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yes, I know now, but there was little difference between McDermott's 2016 squad and Wilks' 2017 squad as far as the on-field product. -
He'd be a safe pick that may end up getting canned in a few years once we prove to be mediocre across the board.

Perhaps, but I think it's a little presumptive to base whether or not he'd be a good head coach on that. Look, I'm not beating the drum for Wilks, but I'm also not going to dismiss him out of hand without context and before we can see more. Chances are, just the fact that he temporarily inherits this mess, he'll be sent packing in January. -
If he has more control, as in the more traditional role of a GM, he's going to have to make decisions that lead to winning. Tepper sounded like he wasn't necessarily in love with the handling of the resources, specifically drawing the short stick in drafts because of overspending with draft capital (and perhaps real capital), leaving us ass-out on the draft picks--as in not having enough. So, I'd suspect that Fitt is a little more thoughtful and frugal in free agency. Looking at this past offseason, learning from past mistakes seemed like a priority. Well, it sounds like it's going to need to be even more of a priority to keep--err, make Tepper happy.

Person: Rhule ran the team at times "like his personal kingdom"
top dawg replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, I think we already figured this from yesterday. He was a control freak and micromanager. Perhaps with the new HC, the franchise will loosen up the training camp experience a little, and maybe Igo and others will get a little more leeway to report some fun things again. It has morphed into the No Fun League to some extent, but a man can wish. -
I would love Harbaugh to be our next HC, but that doesn't mean that others wouldn't be better. There is nothing akin to the laws of physics when trying to say just because that blonde-haired coach didn't work out, that the next one want. Or just because that 300 pound defensive coordinator worked out, that the next one will also. You MUST look at each coach/assistant on their own merits.

I don't believe we're really in a position to be drawing hard lines about high first rounders and low first rounders. If they want to give any first rounder, I'd consider it.

I'd consider it, depending on the payment. If the price is right, let CMC go win a Super Bowl.

Remember the Twitter thread about Wilks and Snow arguing?

I mean, I hear what you guys are saying, but when I compare 2016 to 2017, I see that we were ranked the same in scoring defense. Sure, in 2017 we had the 22nd ranked rushing defense, but it was only 21st in 2016. The passing defense was the same at 21. I just don't see the difference. I think there's some splitting of hairs going on for whatever reason. -
I'd take Jim Harbaugh in a second.

Neither you nor anyone else really knows that.

We all owe Teddy Bridgewater an apology

Well, he won more games while Rhule was in the league than Rhule did. -

I mean, I don't remember and am too lazy to look it up, but did he really inherit McDermott's defense, or did he inherent a defense where some of the key players had aged and/or moved on? That answer can make all the difference in the world. -
After hearing that Steve Wilks canned Phil Snow, I couldn't help but think that the firing gives some credence to the unconfirmed twitter thread about dissension in Snow's ranks. Yes, I realize the defense was not perfect and certainly has serious third down issues, but it was still a respected squad, so I'd say that Wilks had better be right about deep-sixing Snow. It will turn out to be a very important executive decision for him, as it speaks to his decision making which in turn makes an understated statement about his genuine viability as the Panthers next HC (sans any "interim" label). It will be interesting to see how our defense evolves--and it will, or he wouldn't have fired Snow with such expediency. Not to mention Wilks' continuation of McAdoo's services on the offensive (pun kinda intended) side of the ball, will be nearly as important. For hardcore Panthers fans, the soap opera is real, and almost must-see TV for the next few weeks.

That riverboat floated down the river a while ago, and I surely wouldn't try to catch it.

He was responsible for essentially everything from my vantage point. He may have treated some like peons, per se, but I get the feeling that it was more about staff members' perceptions surrounding Rhule's desire to control and micromanage. Moreover, I wouldn't doubt for a minute that some of the players had their issues and were talking among themselves and with past players like Kuechly, CJ and Smitty.
-
He was frustrated about the state of things, and perhaps a little angry about questions that he felt were rhetorical in nature (especially one from Scott Fowler). In that same vein, I don't think that he appreciates some of the perceptions about the overall success of his sports and entertainment ventures in Charlotte. I didn't glean nervousness at all. I think that he's still open-minded to a degree and able and willing to learn from his mistakes. He's not commiting to any course of action right now, except to give Steve Wilks a fair shot at seeing what if any improvements he can bring about for the remainder of the year.

I think the more apropos title would be, "How disliked was Matt Rhule as a coach?" I do believe that as a person, some people actually liked him. I think that his coaching philosophy was a dark cloud over all, but that when players and staff actually have time to reflect over time, they'll be able to discriminate between the two. Rhule's modus operandi seems more a match for developing college and high school kids than developing men in a professional setting. I think that Rhule likes to impose his control, and that doesnt necessarily work well with free grown men. Men control themselves if they believe in a process that shows results.

We may tank naturally, but no one is going to try to tank. We know that. But, we also know that there are going to be a certain amount of we-should-tank philosophers on the forum...delusional as they are.

Anyone else get injected with some actual Hope for the future?
top dawg replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nah, dude. Gotta wait for more info. Wilks and our current QB situation blunt--really bash over the head--any thoughts of even a temporary injection of positivity or winning energy about the current state of affairs. We are a dumpster fire with trash pail upside. -

Next step: Get rid of Robby Anderson
top dawg replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't blame him. -
I'll be shocked if he doesn't follow Rhule (to Arizona State).
-
I doubt that we'd go the Payton route specifically because we'd have to give up too much to our division rival. I'd be shocked honestly.

From what I've seen, he gets paid his 40 mil from Tepper regardless. Edit: Well, maybe not. Offset language is offset language. Tepper will still be on the hook for something, but, really, who cares at this point? I was never concerned with Tepper's money, and never will be.
