I wasn't too impressed with Steichen's play calling
top dawg replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
The fact that you are intimating that I said "Steichen sucks," or that he is a "bum" just tells me that you're not even really addressing the point, which is that he got out-coached badly by the guy on the other side on the biggest stage, when he had them down. Plenty of people believe that. The Giants didn't have nearly the team that the Eagles did. I could argue that Kafka actually did more with less. You should ask yourself why you're so invested. I was just stating an opinion. I didn't say that Steichen sucks or that he's a bum, what I said is that he may not be all that people are suggesting that he is. If I'm wrong, so what? I'm more concerned with the excellent moves that the Panthers are making with our coordinators. -
From Athletic J Person on Caldwell connections and OC

Tepper shouldn't have to do anything but write checks now. I think that's all he really ever wanted to do. This staff is chock full of experience. -
Say the Bears go QB at #1 and trade Justin Fields...
top dawg replied to CamWhoaaCam's topic in Carolina Panthers
All I know is that we'll be in on every deal. I'd take Fields for the right price. You know nine would be gone, and maybe a second, and... But hell yeah I'd look into the price, and I'm sure that Fitt will too with Reich's blessing. -
I'll give him some credit, but he's really not the only smart football guy in the room. As for his hire, he'll earn my loyalty when we start winning. It's early, and a lot has yet to pass, but today I'd say that Reich needs to win at least eight games before I'll be satisfied. And I'd consider that a somewhat low bar.

Tepper is using his big money much more effectively this time around.

Would you trade 9 for Fields - straight up?
top dawg replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Bears are hedging big time though. They made trade the first overall pick which is what they should do, especially if they plan to keep Fields, but that's not exactly an admittance that they're looking to trade Fields. Will Young or Stroud blow Poles away? I doubt it. But, you never know. To be honest, I'd absolutely love to see them trade Fields because of all the implications and potential drama and talking points for years to come. -

You can say what you want; bottom line is that Siriani and Steichen (and Gannon) got out-coached. You don't realistically go into the game saying that you're going to stop Mahomes, especially with the O-line that they have. The plan is to limit him just enough to allow your offense to win the game for you. The defense gave the offense an opportunity to win, and they just didn't do it, despite having KC on the ropes. -

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. -

They had their foot on the necks of KC near the end of the first half, and likely could have gone a long ways icing the Chiefs right there. If they could have just figured out one drive, just one effective drive in the second half, it's likely game over. Mahomes is Mahomes. It's not a surprise that he nullified all that noise. Even Philly's defense couldn't stand the pressure; that's why you have to take them out offensively if you're able, and Philly had the firepower to do it, notwithstanding their defense. The fact is is that they got out-coached. If you give Reid and Bienemy (not to mention Spagnuolo) the Eagles in the same situation with five minutes left in the first half, notwithstanding the fumble, I bet they would've led the Eagles to victory. -

I fundamentally agree with you, but Reich and company will have to really believe in the QB and not just draft one for the sake of drafting one (which IMO is what some seem to be suggesting). Moreover, Reich, just like most, will have to earn most fans' faith in him. Sure, he'll get a certain degree of patience and understanding, but until he proves his worth, he's just another coach that Panthers fans hope is better than what we've had for the last 20 years.

You don't know? You better ask somebody! Keep posting---but not like that---and you might be able to command that type of respect some day. -

Yeah, I agree. I just think that Philly could have switched it up a little more on offense. They kept calling passes in the flat on the edge from one side to another, and inexplicably called at least a couple of run plays on what was essentially 3rd and long when they hadn't had success running the ball all night long. He acted like he was determined to do things that had worked all season and the first half of the game (passing-wise), but it wasn't working during the second half. My problem is that they had KC on the ropes, but basically let them slip away and get the K.O. Siriani and Steichen got out-coached and sucker punched during crunch time. -

Yeah, the Eagles' run game was beyond disappointing, but perhaps it was more about KC's underrated defense and Spagnuolo than Steichen's play calling. @t96 , are you still downplaying Pacheco's talent? He outdid all the RBs of the Eagles by himself. It was great scouting by the KC. On an off note, I bet the Eagles had wished they'd have had Kadarius Toney last night. The Chiefs know how to put a team together---make acquisitions that will get them where they want to go as well as anybody. Either that, and/or Reid and Bienemy just know how to use players better than anyone else. -
Question? Lamar Jackson Franchise Tag
top dawg replied to Biggdaddi1022's topic in Carolina Panthers
Jackson is 25. Wilson is like 34 or something. Injury risk? Perhaps. All this wear? Not really. -
Steichen really kept calling some of the same plays over and over again, and didn't seem to make any outstanding adjustments to me. Just saying. I wasn't impressed. I mean, it's great to stack up your wins and pad the resumé in the regular season, but you make the big money on the big stage. He may not be the wunderkind of a HC that people believe that he could be. I am more impressed by Ben Johnson's and Mike Kafka's creativiry.

Good Article on potential OC target Brian Johnson
top dawg replied to Mills's topic in Carolina Panthers
He has had his personal issues, as has been well-documented. Furthermore, maybe he just has a personality that rubs people the wrong way. Maybe he's an asshole. Who knows? I just provided the info. If you want to call Andy Reid a liar, then that's your right to do so. On some level, I just know that Bienemy has been an integral part of the offense, if some want to think he's just there along for the ride, that's on them. It doesn't make sense to me, but not everyone thinks the same. -

Andy Reid said that Beinemy "literally calls the plays." -
Mississippi! And Idaho is moving that way.

Sigh The refs marred what was a beautiful competition. That's unfortunate.

Butker has missed quite a bit. As I've always said, Gano is the surer bet.

I can adapt, but now that I'm in my 50s and the fact that our society has gotten crazy as hell, I prefer more rural settings myself, but not so rural where there are no conveniences within 15 minutes.

Question? Lamar Jackson Franchise Tag
top dawg replied to Biggdaddi1022's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean, I just disagree. You're going to have to pay to play. You think Buffalo, Cincy, Los Angeles is NOT going to pay their guys? They ARE going to pay, just like KC did with Mahomes. The salary cap is going no where but up, every year. Big contracts to QBs, if you have one that's worth a damn, is going to be the norm. You sign them while you can, and as time goes on, their cap hit becomes less of an issue. If it's not Jackson, it's going to be somebody that we draft (if we're lucky). Let Hurts win today, and he's going to get paid too. That's just how it is. All the talk of being cash strapped and hamstrung is way overblown. You get your guy and manage your roster. I don't care if it's in the draft or by acquisition. -
Crack didn't even exist in those days. Drugs weren't nearly as pervasive in '73 as they are now.
