And used two years setting it all up. If you want to give him the first year as a training period you are still in year 4 of his best plan for stewardship. The one he took two years to craft.
-
The way it should have gone, yep, game manager vet QB build up the rest of the team so when you do get your young QB he has a strong running game and a good defense to help him out. Teddy was fine for that Collecting failed QBs and throwing them at the wall hoping one sticks while draining your organization of draft capital, this is what that looks like.
-
There can be something to that with certain people. Making them angry gets juices going in a way that just is…. more.
-
We Should have been encouraged by staff changes, it looked like a positive. I wonder if Rhule forced Mayfield on them. I can’t see anything left to do but run plays that set junior up to not get his passes swatted away and hand the ball off.
-
David Tepper. Talk about Rhule talk about Fitterer but we already know he is a meddling owner. I was convinced he was the genius behind the 34 defense that cam3 out of nowhere. We know Rivera coached a great 34 in San Diego but we were not tooled for it and pretty sure Ron would understand that pretty well.

It sucks Corral will never get his shot this year
stratocatter replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
It never stops. Matt Corral is a P.R.O.J.E.C.T. Same old same old, Last time I read this place for a little while it was Will Grier. Oh yeah. Then they played him. Not before enduring weeks of sack fondling from people thinking he was the answer and we were fools for not starting him. Over and over. Kind of like this. -
The crazy thing is we would be 3-0 with Cam Newton
stratocatter replied to OneBadCat's topic in Carolina Panthers
That’s what I thought I was looking at. Cam always was a long strider who didn’t look fast per se but he really has lost a step or two. -
I have a feeling the people who think Corral should have been our starter were saying the same things about Grier a few years back.

When you put it that way…. I compared the pursuit of him to the old saw about the star of a losing baseball team that wanted a raise. He was told “son we can finish last without you”. Mayfield wasn’t gonna make us enough better to worry with but when the price came that far down I didn’t get outraged. He does not look good, despite how bad the others may look. Moore had two catches that were big, and one the announcer said Mayfield threw a back shoulder ball. But Moore had to completely alter his direction, it was that far behind him. I just don’t see the accuracy and he is Not stepping into the throws. Hell sounds like Cam to me without the Cam benefits of throwing a 65 yard rope on the money and running people over. Which he could do.
-
He did have two. The second one was thrown from maybe 6’ above the ground. Looked like he was trying to split two defenders maybe. I hope.

Tend to agree with you in large part about the season so far and the overall picture in general. It wasn’t luck, it was a great kick but also it was Gano’s 3rd longest make of his career. He could have missed it easily. Who knows then… OT. I don’t think the Panthers deserved to win though, as NY missed a lot of opportunities to pull away as well. And minus two on turnovers, they deserved to lose not getting even one turnover. We didn’t dictate poo. Tackling was better at least week one, I just throw that out. Pretty much always just on principle. Never saw playoffs for this year though so that helps with the blood pressure. And definitely ditto for directing the dissatisfaction at the actual responsible party. I posted some Tepper scorn elsewhere. Maybe he”ll say or do something that would get him in JR level PR trouble.

This is like when you have been at something a long time, and your new boss is green. But the boss is headstrong, having had prior success in his prior positions which has elevated them to the New role he now inhabits. Which is not the same game he was in but that doesn’t matter to him he has succeeded at everything. He will on this. As things come up, you pretty much know what is going to result from a given course of action, because you learned the hard way. But you can’t criticize the boss’ plan if it is not right. Keep doing that he won’t want you around. So the bottom line is you have to tread water waiting for the boss to figure it out. This is a process that consists of a hundred more similar scenarios. Unless the new boss has so much talent and potential that you know it will pay off, it is a crappy way to make a paycheck. This is the football people with Tepper (it is also the fans). Down the chain, it is likely the pro guys with the college guys.

Would you be pleased if we hired Byron Leftwich??
stratocatter replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have no way to really know his coaching talent sitting here at the house but he was on my list before. One thing for certain, players will respect that guy. NFL QB. Just show them the clip of his teammates carrying him down the field to run the next play. If he can coach at all, we win with that choice. -
Scot I have read this place for about as many years as it has been here and your thing has Always Been bitching about every coach we have had. Ditto the GM. Just always. First sign of trouble you are on that train cranking it up. I stand by my poo. And wasn’t in favor of hiring Rhule nor acquiring Mayfield and don’t care if he is fired. And a lot of stuff Rhule has done or not done. The fact is that yesterday with some better execution by any number of guys, that game is won good coaching or bad coaching. And all of the play wasn’t bad and this team is going to get better if they stay healthy. As if it could be worse, who couldn’t be better than that? Yes I saw it too. If they have that 1st half display again then fug them because a bad day is one thing, a pattern of them is unacceptable. The batted passes are especially scary. But nobody really knows crap for sure after one game as far as who will be there at the end though I am pretty sure we won’t be. But we could be as good as a team that is playoff bound as a wild card if we improve as the year goes on. Maybe knock a team out. My best hope would be that and it is where I am looking for enjoyment. We probably ain’t going to the playoffs lol. Peace.

Not saying there was nothing to complain about. I did expect a lot of loose as opposed to tight, in and teamwork and that is what we got. I wasn’t in favor of hiring Rhule. And the power he got was a cherry on top. Our owner. And I wasn’t in favor of Mayfield either but we’ll see, But we have won with sub par game management and good players before. We are still missing a few pieces to overcome that, yes. At the same time I don’t think I want to harp on all Rhule’s game day deficiencies right now when if the players executed, the game is won. So another day on his referendum. We really lost because of piss poor execution more than anything. Missed tackles, stupid penalties, missed blocks. The biggest thing to me is the NFL is in week one and many good teams play really bad football, historically, week one. Not saying we are a good team, I am just saying a lot of bad product is on the field every year and if you judge from that you will be wrong a lot of the time. In both directions. I bet people thought we were going to be pretty good last year…. I know they did, after the first game. And the second… ha ha. Now Mayfield doesn’t fix that batted pass poo it won’t be a good year, I will say that. I expect the exchange will be much easier to get right. He had some flashes though. I just want them to be a good team by year’s end whether it is playoffs or not. Show me that, which has not been here for years, and let’s get on with it.

Re the reps. There is more to coaching than meets the eye. Or many eyes. Team morale was a huge consideration in the QB ‘competition’. That was kind of in the open I thought or at least I am thinking I read it from a beat writer. Maybe the Athletic or elsewhere. I get it. Team knows that the best guy earned the job, gets behind new guy. Or new guy gets handed the job, there is maybe division when your guy is getting benched with no chance to compete for it. I think people have some fairly unrealistic expectations for the opening week. Which is full of bad football every year, from teams that end up decent and some that end up champions. We have a 5 win team heading into a new season with huge changes made to the roster and also staff. We have the rook LT who everyone knew would be schooled in that game. And was. The thing you hope for is will he get better from it? I think the team is going to get better as the season goes if they can stay healthy. And it is a long season. I think that is more what people ought to be looking at.

1st week has always had plenty of surprises. Upsets etc. Now they cut preseason, it won’t get better. -
More are starting to believe in the Panthers

Meaningful games in December. Let’s get there first. That would be a good enough plan to suit me. -
Panthers trade for wide receiver Laviska Shenault
stratocatter replied to joemac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Man there are a ton of posts here but I went a lot of pages without seeing something. How long did. It take for a poster to say that the current OC is pretty familiar with the player? This looks like that to me. Could be something to the CMC role, but whatever it is the QB coach would know something about the WRs on the roster and the route trees and all that stuff. So if he can work with this guy…. seems reasonable to think this may be the motivation. Besides being, also maybe, a friendly reminder to anyone coasting through that you need to keep an eye out over your shoulder. -
Panthers trade Dennis Daley to Titans

Topper is all about that too, so it probably scores on that front. A point in the job security column. -
I am near Myrtle Beach, on the beach itself it was packed, same at entertainment spots. Surely I am worried about it locally but if any visitors were exposed the virus is going to travel back home with them. Past that, I am just a civilian so predictions from me mean little to nothing.
