Of course Caldwell wouldn’t “hover” over his shoulder he’d just be ‘guiding’ a 1st time NFL OC. But Reich was “hovering”. Interesting parsing of words there We’ll see how lil Bryce does now that they have the Right people coaching him. .

Possible GMs IF Scott is Fired.
stratocatter replied to Panthercougar68's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’d love to have both those guys back. -
I think you overestimate the strength. My opinion. Thinking you may have missed a one or two finger sack, maybe game 2. Early in the year. Went right down. Not a great moment. We’ll definitely disagree on his future. All iMO..He can make some pro level throws, really pretty, but I don’t see it when people say all the throws. Well, all the throws at high level. I don’t think he has any high level deep throws. This is so crazy to me because I see him far far far from being the guy you move heaven and earth for to make him top overall pick; I see him as a liability. He does not have the extra zip and when they try and go deep to try and stretch that field, I am afraid we are going to see that. It shapes up to be very interesting and worth watching. at least for the answer. A liability in the passing game, and guess what? Yep. He hurts the running game because of his size, because he is disadvantaged under center, seemingly and because he shouldn’t be doing any actual running… I think reality for me looks like: he is not gonna be matrixing nearly as many people in my estimates as in yours. He just doesn’t measure up anywhere for me, and I am still waiting on that processor to go cha ching. I really wish I felt differently.

This is a case of the baby needing to be thrown out with the bathwater. Sorry. Just do it and get it over with. Then we might have a reason to be hopeful.

Players react to firing. They don’t seem too upset
stratocatter replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Frank was just there, he wasn’t THE reason. He didn’t do enough to be a reason that I know of. He isn’t exactly a polarizing type. If it is blamed on a person, maybe Irsay would give someone more of a reason. I would bet he was raised making other people happy his whole life, and his heart wasn’t in being an NFL hero, and then he got his money. Enough. See ya. -
He was signed on the intel that he got pissed at the couch, and with one hand picked it up and tossed into the dumpster.

Matrix? Not to be rude, but are you talking college? Everyone likes showing his good stuff that came against college level athletes. All due respect, I know a couple of guys have missed him in the pros. I don’t think people should get carried away thinking he is NFL mobile. For fun… Strength, I don’t know, how strong does he look? You are seeing something in a light that I don’t see it in. I honestly don’t think his main issue is strength, but think that he could be a little above kicker strength level. Probably some WRs around his level but I would guess one of the weaker players in the league, excluding a number of kickers.

Have fun with Bryce Young. I am with Frank on that. That's a fantasy. I'd say we're gonna see, but they screw it up every time somehow so I doubt anyone that still has questions gets them answered. -
He exudes arrogance. Man the morning crew over there is a joke. Horrible. I can't listen to any of them long.
-
That we will. Have you seen him foot race defensive tackles? One linebacker.

Yeah they know Frank wasn't the problem. What's changed? edit: that isn't really a Frank endorsement. He wasn't the solution, he was a symptom. -
Look I want to be clear I did not want Reich. I never bought in to excluding half the candidates for NFL HC because of what side of the ball they were on as assistants. So, I was not an offensive only person. I am a CEO guy; I feel that NFL HC is just a different job than NFL OC or DC, and you need people suited for that job. Not their old job. As an aside, it is why if Wilks sucks in SF as DC, it wouldn’t preclude me from hiring him for HC because I have seen him do that job well. Okay, to Frank Reich: I did accept him once they passed on my guy Wilks. I was never excited, and once Young was the pick I was not much of a fan of anyone in the Panthers organization. No faith in their judgement. Okay. Great. That said: I don’t really agree that Reich was so ignorant or horrible and that he hired a bunch of ignorant and horrible people (it was Always going to take time, everyone was brand new practically). Which is becoming more and more the mass attitude it seems like. Pile on Reich. I don’t blame him for the quarterback being bad. I don’t blame the quarterback for being too small and physically inadequate, there is no shame in being short with an average college arm and good accuracy. It is what it is. Crux of it is I think Reich was caught up in an organizational hurricane that he had no idea how to counter or deal with. I’m gonna say he sort of shut down, froze, because he couldn’t’ see a way forward. He could not endorse with a clear conscience, whatever he was being pushed to do, I believe, with the young quarterback. That he so obviously didn’t believe in. I think. Could be wrong of course. Now, this is in his mind, I mean from his perspective, and he could have been wrong. Regardless, we are about to find out real fast who is on the right track with this quarterback analysis. I think. Either that or we shut him down and go fetal position until the season is over. Get that 33rd pick yo! Back to Reich I don’t think a competitive guy lets a crap OL stop him from stretching the field. He knows how important it is. He keeps someone in, he shifts the ‘pocket’ left or right, he figures out a way to get it done. I give you Andy Dalton vs Seattle. But he isn’t doing it with the rookie. He isn’t, heh, wasn’t pushing Young in anything. I give you Dalton in for a sneak - Hell I bet Young went to Reich and complained about that lol. And that’s what happened there (Uhh, wait.. I am remembering he did push Young one time, about being a more take charge Leader. More vocal. More demonstrative. To speed it up, get the pace rolling, put some pep in your step). But Reich was super over protective of that kid,. To the point of passive aggressive and dragged his feet (to avoid following orders, uh… suggestions) to the point of being fired. I am not really sure Frank was the yes man people need him to be. I think if he’d have been a yes man he’d still be coach. edit: It’s all some of the weirdest strangest stuff I have seen since following the NFL.

Blocking downhill not fooling with this pistol, the threat of actual PA, I think he’d have done fairly well.
-
He was. Production wise. Wonder how CMC would have done in that scheme. I bet great.
-
That’s the one Linville (oops, not Waldo). My memory isn’t so great it was only Henry. All you have top do is think a little. The numbers of guys drafted. The numbers of them you’d typically find in an SEC program not named Alabama or Georgia, or whoever is dominating at the time. NFL facilities, coaches, meds, money/full time gig based on performance, a year of training and competing vs NFL starters takes them so far above their SEC selves, it is like little bro and big bro.
-
I wish I could find a clip I watched a while after the draft. The debate was over I didn’t see the need to bookmark bu5 man I really should have I have looked a couple of times since and can’t find it The familiar faces on there were talking SEC vs NFL. I want to say Antonio Pierce but he wasn’t SEC, I think he was part of the group though. I need to find it because it is the truth from people who played in the SEC and the NFL. Basically the SEC is as close as it gets for college but it is not the NFL which is a whole ‘nother ballgame. Night and day.
-
I wasn’t personally upset by the CMC trade. I don’t value RBs that high either, is why I guess. We still had a fine running game with him gone. The trade for #1 compounded by the stupidest decision in the history of the NFL, making a high school sized baller whose voice hasn’t changed the number one pick. Totally opposed the instant I heard the idea. Moronic. It was a disastrous decision. Ask Frank lol. I used to say ask anyone who knows the NFL isn’t college and it a no brainer, but people have gone crazy post Covid.

Greg Olsen says he is interested in Panthers HC Job
stratocatter replied to usmcpanthers's topic in Carolina Panthers
Greg ain’t no dummy. He knows that less than a year’s work he will have collected tens of millions and be able to be back in the booth. Golf course. Whatever he wants. -
I can’t defend Reich at all even though I think he had a bad hand to play. What I saw when things were no longer practice, had only one defense and that wouldn't fly with me but it was at least a logical position that they could claim. The only way I saw an NFL coach putting that on the field as his offense was the owner is in on it all the way. Knowing it was going to fail. Some plan where protecting the quarterback comes at the expense of even trying to win. Trying to call a play where he needed some time, was out. Off the wristband. It made little sense. Basically no sense. But no other explanation did either. Frank was allowed to walk away. What you want to bet there is some form of NDA regarding the processor? not disputing Key’s personality shortcomings but did not want is absolutely valid as a response or evaluation result. I certainly felt that way. Was begging the voodoo pincushion for help with that.

After what I have seen starting when the games counted, I didn’t care who left, they are responsible for what I just watched. Week one was a total outlier week one game because it not only forecast the season, it forecast the next few years. Worst debut of a draft pick and offense I have ever seen in the NFL. In over 60 years of watching it. The worst hands down. If Reich didn’t want the quarterback he shouldn’t be the coach. Because the rest of them did. If he did want the Quarterback he shouldn’t be the coach. Because that makes him as much a loser as the others. Now the real fun starts.

RB Coach Duce Staley and QB Coach Josh McCown fired
stratocatter replied to jamos14's topic in Carolina Panthers
Since they put pads on if I recall. -
Is Young safe? I hope not. I hear the new line starting up already is he ruined and will never be the same because Reich. LOL. The same as what? He has not been anything but a loser. Undersized, isn’t cutting it. Set up to fail. Bullshit.
