You want to see it as negative, it is nothing of the kind. It is gonna happen. That is one of the biggest hurdles in sports or life: what you do when your ass gets kicked? That will tell more truth about this team than a hundred articles saying how great these moves were. If you think they won't run into a humbling type of ass kicking, that's not optimistic. It's closer to delusiuonal.

Good lord. You have friends? I guess I must not be one. edit: they are talking like winners. Like it is a done deal now that they have Reich and the gang, and a new quarterback who is highly rated. It will be interesting t see what happens when they get their asses kicked one time. Simple. Not a word trick or trap. How they respond. You don’t think it would be interesting? Or is it you don’t think they are gonna get their asses kicked? To me it is one of the most interesting things in this whole scenario.

Tepper could have ten football teams with all his money. Point being he owns only one, has All that money, and is not giving his football team a level playing field. okay not the best characterization but it was hard to resist playing field. He is not giving them everything they need because? I have no answer, if he cares about his football team for reasons other than the money he can make. He claims that he does care and want and all that. Don’t see it while that field is what it is.

Jason McCourty: Panthers made NFL's biggest offseason move
stratocatter replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
We can see it was a big move, just fine. Feel free to insult people that aren't guzzling the koolaide, after the issue is resolved. Which it isn't. -
At this point in time, who feels like we lost this trade?
stratocatter replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think so too. There don't seem to be any questions or much doubt about his understanding the NFL version of his job on the mental side which is where the holdup usually is. The physical side: arm strength, athleticism, foot speed against NFL defender foot speed is about as good as it will ever be right now. We'll how it plays. -

If it doesn't work out, the franchise is screwed for years. That might qualify something as a mistake. It is funny though, maybe someone has a horseshoe somewhere, and they miss on the sure thing everyone thinks this guy is but hit on last year's 3rd. That takes luck. Luck has not been big on hanging out with black cats. -
Well, it would still fall under 'sometimes the best deal is the one you don't make'.

I have had the same viewpoint all along may as well own it. What would change my mind, is not what some other internet posters think, it will only be if the draftee shows he was majorly worth the sacrifice made to acquire him. I don’t believe, historically, anyone has ever decisively done that, in a matching scenario. Pretty sure no one has ever taken a player of Young’s stature at QB, or close even, with the ultimate pick. It will work because he is really really smart, they say. A football genius. We’ll see. I don’t really like his arm that much either. But what do I know. The proof will be in the pudding soon enough. -

I think we lost the trade. Or, did. Not thinking about it much after the draft was over and done. I thought we lost the minute the trade was made, not specifically over one guy but any guy. Just did not feel like there was any player in the draft at QB that was worth two firsts and whatever else the haul was. Yes when it came down to two names I specifically did not want Young, but it didn’t matter really that much if you don’t think either was deserving of their position. -
I am expecting what Tepper meant by spending on the D (while at the draft) had to do with paying Burns. I don’t understand the strong optimism for the D either, seems like some people are expecting the Steel Curtain. In.the.first.year.of transitioning to the 3-4. Everyone seems to think these players are interchangeable in some of these positions. I am very wary of what we have inside up the middle, 1st and 2nd level, both. And then the CBs are questionable too, depth wise. At least we probably get to play Baker once.

Changes to the Panthers behind the scenes staff
stratocatter replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I noted the mention of the old search committee the last time there was something about Drummond leaving. I totally understood why he was moving on. -
Okay here is the old guy rant, but it is true. Younger generations are getting screwed. This ain’t football anymore. You won’t be watching good football, the kind that made the league into the best thing going. They are legislating it away. It is now the kind of league where you can have a 5’10” 190lb QB and not worry. This is like, the level of when you go to extra innings in Baseball, they don’t actually make you earn your way on base. And they start you out at second because, extra innings are boring.

Yeah that is an interesting situation. Bears essentially felt Young couldn’t beat Fields out. Or that no one in the draft could. Stroud, etc This could be a big deal for someone, however it works out. They both have to ball out or someone is looking and feeling pretty bad. The thought that Chicago was choosing Fields basically again, while at the same time I don’t think much of Fields, was a huge red flag for Young, for me.

General thoughts about these players, I don't really give a poo about either one of them past what they can do for the Carolina Panthers. Willing to not condemn Corral on his on field ineptitude under the circumstances last year. I would not get rid of Corral without satisfying myself that he couldn't beat out Young, and depending on how close that was maybe he stays. And if I were Corral i know I'd look at that other QB and feel like I was just as good, at least I hope he feels that way.

He had them, but then people saw him play.

Projected Offense Starting Lineups for All 4 NFC South Teams
stratocatter replied to Pantha-kun's topic in Carolina Panthers
Personally I think Atlanta's offense is going to make people bring their lunch. -
Right now I think he is getting a shot at staying in the NFL. On the team's end, there are a ton of scenarios that are literally a play away. Think two or three years down the line, you aren't thinking Dalton. You want to thoroughly evaluate every option. They should be, or have a good reason why. New people get benefit of the doubt until they don't, I am gonna believe they are having their conversations.

And thank you NFL, for once. Those soccer things are ugly noise.

Biggest Boom or Bust Position Group?
stratocatter replied to CanadianCat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would hope they are more giving Jackson his fair shot with some hope mixed in and aren't putting huge expectations on a cornerback coming in on an untested repaired achilles. Achilles is serious for those quick fast guys that really depend on their wheels. -
I don't see us being a 5 win team in any circumstances. Take Young out, even, and we are still better than that. I don't know why people assume switching the D up is going to be immune to issues we historically see when things like that happen. Rose colored glasses. Almost no one warns that growth may be slowed down due to that side of the ball. I have to take away points on that so even if they improve the offense they still sort of tread water there, not sinking but not doing the breaststroke either. Other teams are going to be better. Atlanta an NO both could be problems. I am gonna say we may be able to steal a couple early because there won't be great film on the new schemes. That might get us out of the under territory since I feel they set it a bit low to start with, so I guess if push comes to shove I would have to go with betting the over.

Biggest Boom or Bust Position Group?
stratocatter replied to CanadianCat's topic in Carolina Panthers
TE is a good candidate. edit: oops maybe not. They aren’t so likely to boom so there goes half of it right there. -
This isn't anything. But if it were to be something, considering expectations, it's all gravy.

People typically see the tank as being over after that year, and now it is time to take the draft haul and get some studs. Surprise. It is much more sophisticated; the aim is to be in that position every year. Tepper has bought into long term stealth tanking. (LTST). I wish I could explain but I have said too much already.

Jets fans remind me of Panther fans re expectations.
