I don’t know what to think about Corral myself, honestly. He hasn’t made a case for himself that will not allow people to ignore his game. That is what a guy in his position has to do: be so good they can’t ignore you. Even though I am not sure about Corral, this forum has so many quarterback experts that I am not worried, they already have it all figured out. As far as professional quarterback experts, Reich most certainly is familiar with Corral, he has to be, There is little doubt he was scouted by Indy when Reich was in charge (and in dire need of a quarterback after being screwed by Luck quitting on them with no notice). I am thinking he just doesn’t see a lot there to work with. Maybe it is incompatibility with the system Reich wants to run, maybe he just doesn’t see the talent he needs to see to get behind him.

Go watch Cam when he was healthy and see what you think. I don’t think Bryce Young is that. But not measuring up to that doesn’t necessarily put him in bad company. I think if Young pans out he is gonna be a thorn in the side of teams (and fan bases especially). He is gonna be the pest that you just can’t get rid of. Avoids setting off the traps but your cheese is gone. Doesn’t scare you with his big arm or speed, dinks and dunks the whole game, but you look up at the scoreboard and he is winning by 4 points.

No one thought Corral looked good though, even his mother. If people are defensive about someone questioning his performance they maybe aren’t looking at it honestly. He’ll have his chance (look at the number of ‘I thought he was out of the league’ QBs still on a roster). Besides, I have this perverted fantasy that something will happen with Young and Corral gets in and pulls a win out of a lost cause and all of a sudden QB controversy - 3rd round scrub vs #1 golden boy. That would be some solid gold message board entertainment right there, I bet a ton of people would instantly hate him. Or hate themselves for liking him… or something like that.

I binge watched the ‘15 season last week. That defense says hello (the second half of a few games suffered from preventitis but man Luke, TD, Norman and the rest of the guys were legit dangerous).

Yet there will be weak spots. As to the op question, work in progress with much potential. They could benefit at first from facing underdeveloped offenses that ran out of preseason, and the lack of film people will have on them (just preseason stuff from this year). I expect a work in progress that progresses if healthy, and by the end of the year could be pretty jelled. Too many guys transitioning positions or techniques though, for me to think it will be easy and smooth and great right away. Worried mostly about run stopping when playing teams that value running backs, and the depth and health in the secondary.

I am gonna guess Withers was computer spelled, and yeah, Stroud is with the team that Lovie screwed out of the first pick. They are a legit trainwreck of a team and have a very young first time head coach who has a lot of seasoning to absorb. Anyone coming to Carolina was ahead in the rebuilding and coaching up game by a major margin.

Von Miller: The Panthers were the better team

I rewatched the entire '15 season after watching the '03 team and that superbowl. Turned off the '15 season SB after the strip sack. Cam was fully formed that year, and was great. What an arm. He sailed that pass 5 or 6 ft over Philly Brown's wide open head in the biggest game, I knew it was going to be one of those type days. He was So good that season. Moving forward, he was primed to dominate. What happened with his career sucked. -
Chris Fowler's Notes from Panthers Training Camp

So, reading is a go. That's good. Understanding what you read, still needs a lot of work. Stick with it. -

That trade/non trade of Burns is a good debate. Those firsts from LA could have been gold. At the same time we have Evero coming in with a new defense that promises, if successful, to maximize the impact of a Burns type player. I understand both viewpoints and probably fall on the side of keeping him only because of the current scenario. -

The team was overconfident. I listened to the talk from the players and it was as if the game was only a formality. All week. Denver players hear that. I knew it was bad juju to be doing that. We were for sure the better team. -

Interesting that no one replied to this. Or am I just the only idiot? Nah, that can’t be true here. I have company. Some contradictory things in there, though I suppose the chronology of the entries could explain that. Talking up offensive guys like Thielen’s 20mph and Chark’s skills after leading off with painting a darker picture with the “multiple coverage sacks” is mostly where that comes from but some other things. There are some ominous overtones in Burns’ comments about his contract, and winning. I get wanting to be on a winning team. I get wanting to be paid like other guys who do what you do. At the same time those ‘keeping up with the Jones’ motivated contract demands are counter to wanting to win, at a point. Not saying he is there but it sounds like he knows where some leverage is and is willing to use it. -
I am thinking he is 24, would be helped by playing and would just be a year older and just as raw if they stash him which helps no one really. Thinking that since they stated they were looking to use him at first only as an edge setter in the run game, that he will at least be able to contribute something. Even if he sucks at rushing the passer.

If the Panthers Win the Superbowl This Year.....
stratocatter replied to Matthias's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am sure people were touting us, I don’t even need to look. It happens almost every year. And Cam had actually proven something so it had some validity. This year? That is a ton of ‘if’ and ‘maybe’ being substituted for ‘is’. -
Never been to an NFL practice. The sloppy tackling we see weekly around the league is probably a clue.
-
Thank you. Do teams actually line up and go O vs D intrasquad scrimmage style anymore? I looked at some video of the first padded practice and saw 7 on 7 no tackling.
-
When is the first real scrimmage? I want to see it for real. Almost real.

Monday Panthers Practice - Pads go on today!

Last year though, there were some things that happened. I was not happy with his play okay, don’t misunderstand me, but Wilks came here to coach him and Horn and Jackson etc but was snatched up into other responsibilities. Maybe that didn’t help CJ or the entire back end for that matter. IOW maybe there is some hope he gets it. -
Is the OL being improved why CMC over there won’t leave?
-
I think he is already achieved Cam status with a lot of people. it will be like this if you question anything We really doing this? What’s wrong with y’all

In fairness Mashall Jr was hurt some around that time. -

It has a shelf life, and if he does great it extends. If Reich and the all star cast fail, it extends. Big time, then. I mean, just look at who they brought in that couldn't do any better.... Even if the Panthers win, it is with his players. Need him to flame out in huskerville, then that is who he talks about. -

I started to write about how Covid was a valid excuse especially for new hires/new systems, but realized that others got markedly better results under the same circumstances. Then I remembered that I never listened to him when he was the coach of the Panthers, I am definitely not wasting my time listening to him now that he isn’t. He isn’t worth it. -
To those who wanted us to hire Sean Payton...
stratocatter replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am chuckling to myself about what if we did hire him and he said that about our ex coach? Not Wilks though, Rhule. What would be typed here? And people would be falling over each other to be first do it too…. FAS. -
Heh, it seems as if we are still on his 7 year plan, just without him.

How much should Bryce play in the preseason?
stratocatter replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
If I were running things and I know people here are glad I’m not but… I would start Dalton in the regular season. The first couple of games are crapshoots to start with. #1 is the old 4th preseason game and they play like it is preseason. #2 is the old 1st regular season game, where all bets are off as it is only the first game. Upside down stuff always happens the first week, If you have seen enough seasons you know this. Okay keep Bryce Young or any other rookie QB I have, out of those games. Try to steal one with the vet at QB while the team develops. The OL needs to gel at game speed. Ditto for every other unit. We have totally new coaching even for many returning players. A new defense. Let them gel some and then put the kid in so he will have a better acclimated situation to step into. That is what I would do. I doubt they do that.
