Yeah so most number 1 picks go to the worst teams in the league. Very rarely does the number one pick go to a team that was one game out of the playoff hunt the previous year. This is the reason why rookie qbs typically don't make the playoffs, and why a guy like Brock Purdy made the playoffs last year. It's a misnomer to say that rookie qbs just aren't good enough yet to make the playoffs. Because so much has to do with how the team they are drafted to are built. When we drafted Cam we didn't make the playoffs his first year, but we saw a five game improvement with an exciting offense. We saw glimpses of the talent the moment he stepped on the field, and if we had a slightly better defense, we would have made the playoffs in 2011. So when your team drafts a QB at number 1, it isn't wrong to expect improvement. If we went 9-8 and missed the wildcard would that be ok....yes. It's improvement. Would it be ok if the team back slides and loses more games then last year, no it isn't. We were in position to compete this year, base upon our cap space and the way that last year finished. We weren't an old team and didn't need to rebuild. It would imply a mismanaged team by the FO.

It's the same reason he isn't even in the same ballpark as Bosa contract wise. He's terrible against the run, and isn't a true game wrecker. Wonderful edge rusher, but ultimately he's a specialist and thats it.

What was the test record when he took over again? Explain to me how he is the reason?

All I say is this. Wilks took over a stagnant team, and within two weeks with another man's coaches the team looked completely different. The players believed in Wilks and at the very least we saw effort. If players are playing with max effort and you lose, it's easier to spot where the team needs to improve. Secondary and QB is all we needed. There was no effort yesterday. Zero. It's hard to even know what to improve if guys aren't even trying. I know it's preseason, but at least try to establish the run to keep Bryce out of the dirt. Also why would a first year coach not try to execute any plays in the preseason. What are we hoping? That the team is just going to execute perfectly in week 1 without ever performing the plays in a legit simulation? How do you even evaluate the back end of the roster without seeing if they can retain information and execute plays? I'm not buying that excuse. Tepper wouldn't know a good football decision even if it was already on payroll.

We had a 1st round pick in 2012 and 2013 right?

This is precisely the problem, we shouldn't have changed everything in one season. I can understand adopting different concepts of the 4-3 or adding wrinkles to what we were doing defensively, but no team that has ever changed to a 3-4 looks good in one season. As far as Frank Reich goes, he seems like a decent guy, but ultimately he is a retread and an old one at that. George Siefert was brought here for the same reason as Reich. Ultimately the Panthers have success under first time defensive minded coaches. Outside of Andy Reid they don't usually seem to work out. But this won't be on Reich when it's over nor should it be. It should go on Tepper who decided to close off his decision making after week 6 of last year. Despite the Panthers finding an identity and beginning to overachieve he tore the whole thing down. We went from being a QB away, to no decent WRs, wrong personnel for a 3-4, having to find another Dcord again next year that comes with more changes, no draft capital, a questionable Oline still, no opposite edge rush, and generally no identity at all. But hey, we have Bryce over Levis, so things are looking up right? We should have stayed smashmouth, re upped Foreman, drafted the best available QB, and put money into reinforcing the trenches, while still having our best WR.

Nice to see that Reich decided to finally take his Panthers tinted shades off

Their guys getting cut are way better than our guys getting cut.

At this point I will be disappointed if we don't get shutout.

Obligatory Thank God for the Canes.

The Panthers have been rebuilding for over half a decade and people say to be patient. fug that.

Fitt is ass and needs to be fired. I'm just gonna say it. He bought himself two years with the Young trade. Everybody is on the Young hype train now, but will feel differently when we are 4-13 and watching the Bears draft with our fourth pick when we were better last year and could have just built on the success we had at the end of the year. We were a Horne injury away from the playoffs and Fitt tore it all down. He was an idiot for letting Foreman walk. He is going to end up letting Burns walk for nothing or drastically overpaying. He wasted a ton of assets on Darnold. CJ Henderson hasn't worked out. He has been a failure.

Tepper is unethical for charging these fans money.

Team is a reflection of the owner
-
It's been 6 years bro.
-
Yeah...Reich said he wanted the QBs to test their limits yet it's been dink and dunk but with mostly doinks.
-
Dooky ass offense
-
Oh sorry for the technical error. I should say he took 3 hits on 6 plays.
-
Wilks was able to establish an identity after the FO decided to tear it down unfortunately.
-
The outcome of the game doesn't matter. It's just the reality that we have a new coach, new QB, new defense, and it's likely to be a top 5 pick next year. We can't even protect Bryce in a preseason game. I understand vanilla play calling in a pre season game but no coach purposely calls vanilla protections that gets their number 1 pick sacked multiple times for the sake of secrecy.

It will go down as a terrible trade.

Gonna be an ugly episode of Hard Knocks

Chris Fowler's Notes from Panthers Training Camp
TheMaulClaw replied to SaltAndPepper's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yes but there is still a difference between being "easy" to replace and "able" to be replaced. Burns would be difficult to replace but ultimately is replaceable for less. It doesnt make it easy but it is doable, with Reddick being a prime example -

Reddick was better and more consistent with us. I'm not talking about his time in Philly.
