  1. dude has some off the field concerns that are pretty ugly. I know teams will vet him out and someone will draft him, but I don't want him to be a Panther from what I've read. Also I don't want him to be a Panther with pick 8. Last fall I was interested, but I do agree with the positional value argument now. QB, LT, CB or trade down.
  2. sloppy early on D, and later on O...you can tell they are still getting used to not have Melo, but at least they show signs of more fluid play. Rozier scoring for us the first half.
  3. Houston game tonight, road game against a team that lost 20 straight and then won their last one. With Gordon and our young guys, we should be able to handle them. Graham gets a chance to lead the team.
  4. I'm at work but it looks like our recent signings have been added. 26 mill https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/carolina-panthers/
  5. David Newton @DNewtonespn · 19m Hère is what the Panthers starting offensive line is shaping up to look like: LT Cam Erving, LG Pat Elflein, C Matt Paradis, RG John Miller, RG Taylor Moton. Four spots have been filled since the season ended.
  6. Jets fan on reddit said this: Jets fan here. He's not amazing, but he brings solid energy and a lot of heart. Solid depth add for you guys. More of a linebacker that has value on special teams than a guy you'd be giving an edge rusher role to.
  7. Sacramento doesn’t appear to have any intention of moving on from Holmes either, who has previously stated that he would like to re-sign with the Kings. However, Holmes is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so on the off chance that he decides to leave, it might be worth exploring his trade value before the team loses him for nothing. The good news on that front is that interest in Holmes is high, as Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Monday: https://www.sactownroyalty.com/2021/3/22/22345248/sacramento-kings-trade-rumors-richaun-holmes-toronto-raptors-charlotte-hornets
  8. Spurs tonight, a game we play without Melo. Gonna be interesting. Need some folks to step up. The good news is valuable playing time for our younger guys...would love to see our young bigs get some time...Carey in particular. Also a good time to showcase some trade options.
  9. not as much as I had hoped....has there been any team in the last 10 years penalized by the league more than the Saints? I think they are well past the Patriots. It's amazing...either incompetence or outright cheating, or some combination of the two.
  10. Falcons believe they won't have an opportunity to get a QB this high again, so they take one to sit behind Ryan for a year, and then trade Ryan to a team that needs a QB to make a run (similar to the Bucs this year). They'll eat a bunch dead cap, but they'll have their franchise QB, they'll get something in return for Ryan, and they'll save a bunch of cap space. " by Tori McElhaney for The Athletic The news of Matt Ryan’s contract restructure didn’t come out of deep left field on Tuesday, but it came out of the shallows. The Falcons were on the clock to clear more than $10 million in cap space. They did it in one fell swoop by restructuring Ryan, a head-turning decision as the Falcons were top contenders to draft a quarterback with the No. 4 pick. The initial thought was Ryan’s restructure wiped out any hope of the Falcons drafting a QB. But as days have passed, the Falcons’ plans are becoming more and more apparent. Matt Ryan’s restructure It seems crazy to think the Falcons still would want a top-5 quarterback considering Ryan’s cap hit in 2022 and 2023 is over $40 million. Their top pick would have to sit a year, or two, or Ryan would be reduced to a backup (not likely at all), or traded sometime in 2022 (not outside the realm of possibility). But Terry Fontenot believed his hands were tied with Ryan’s contract, with sources telling Jeff Schultz that the new general manager didn’t see a better solution to the salary cap problem he inherited. So, don’t burn those mock drafts just yet, because the Falcons believe they should take a look at a QB in the draft, whether that’s at No. 4 or trading down (as will look at soon in our second Falcons mock draft). Either way, the Falcons are fully planning on drafting a quarterback in 2021."
  11. his guaranteed money is over a hundred mill, a good bit could be in the pro-rated bonus, but it's closer to 100 mill than it is to 10 mill. You'd like to think the Texans had a clause in the contract that would negate the deal on a morals clause, but then again, this is the Texans we're talking about. Interesting scenario... team gives the deal, NFL bans the player, does the team owe the guaranteed money? Anyway, not our problem.
  12. the hundred million in salary we would owe a player we just gave up that trade haul for?
  13. Looks like the Watson possibility is all but closed. We may have dodged a bullet. Imagine taking on that salary and then finding out Watson will not be able to play. But that leads us back to finding a QB, and that leaves the draft, and that means moving up. You can say we'll wait and get Lance at 8 all you want, but you don't even know if we want Lance. Plus, that's a gamble, and from everything we've done in the last few months, we ain't gambling on maybe getting one....we've gambling on getting the one we want and hoping he turns out to be a true franchise QB we can build around. So let's look at the cost of moving up this year for Fields, who Verge has indicated may be out target. From what we know right now, I think our front office is going to go as high as #2 if possible to get him. That pick may not be available, as the Jets may want Fields, Wilson or Lance. Regardless, I think it almost certain if we can't get #2, we'll go for #3 and take the next QB on our list. So let's look at the cost of moving up. Here's the Draft Trade Chart, which at least gives us a starting place. https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp We draft at #8....we have 1400 points in draft capital. To get to #2 we need to give up 1200 points. That starts with this years first and next years first and won't be enough. I don't know how much value next year's first translates to this year's draft, and then there is the Jets ability to say "the math may work, but we want more". And of course there will be a bidding war for the pick if it's available. So we'd be looking a possibility of 3 firsts (which may not be enough....it's a seller's market IF they decide to trade the pick. To get to #3, we need 800 points. In this year's draft, that would work out to our first 4 picks, meaning we get #2 and and don't draft again till round 5, which I don't think we want to do, and I don't think the Dolphins would accept. We already heard they were willing to move Tua in the Watson trade, so they may want to choose another QB this year. We're looking at an offer of 2 firsts and 2 thirds, and it may not be enough. I feel we need to save this year's second rounder to get a left tackle, so what would the scenario be? Would they want one of our players in addition to the 2 firsts and 2 thirds? The Falcons hold #4...would they trade with a division rival knowing we're taking a QB? I do have a surprising option here, but I'll save that for later. What are you willing to give up as far as picks and players to move up this year? It's going to hurt, but not as bad as what we'd have given up for Watson. And here's a picture of a smiling dog to make you feel better.
  14. after today's developments, I was feeling this was inevitable. Glad we didn't make the trade before this broke, it would have been devastating to give up that much and have the implosion happening now. thanks Texans, for playing hardball.
  15. This is my thought, and perhaps why we seem to so crazy dead set on getting a franchise QB this year. Even with Teddy, this team will win more games next year, moving us even further away from the top of the draft. It's very close to a now or never situation. I do agree with Linville that if we can get an extra first for next year, especially from a team we think might draft in the bottom next year, we have to consider that if we can't get a QB this year. However it would suck if we two firsts next year and the QB class stinks.
  16. Considering the job our new coaching staff did with what they were given last year, I can't wait to see what they can do with these guys....and a freaking off season.
  17. They should have won more than one Super Bowl with a Hall of Fame QB and everything they did to support him, so this is indeed laughable. They can laugh at us for not winning a Super Bowl yet, but this little factoid makes me smile.
  18. don't mind giving up DG, hate to lose PJ. Still, we have to address the post and fast.
  19. heading into the offseason, I wanted this guy but didn't think we could afford him. And here he is. Best news of the month so far.
  20. Hornet have a 4 game winning streak, but a tough game tonight against Denver.
  21. I'm half Irish, and half Scot...which means I like to drink but I don't like to pay for it.
  22. good post. Two things....if you have your franchise qb and he's not on a rookie contract, this is the model for future NFL teams. They cost so much money after their rookie contracts that it is very difficult to keep good players around. When that QB is nearing the end of his career, like Brees, teams can push the money forward to give a few last shots at a ring. The Saints gambled with the last few years of Drew's career, and they lost. Now they face the future will little cap room, and no QB, so they'll keep drafting till they find one. So will we, which is why Tepper is so intent on getting Watson. We've got the future cap space available to pay him, and he's gambling on Rhule's ability to develop our draft picks rather than go shopping for big money FAs. Second, while there may be an actual reason for Taysom getting the 140 mill that will never happen, I took it as a little jab at the rest of the NFL, saying, "we know we can do this." If that's true, it pretty funny. Still, fug the Saints. I'm going to enjoy watching them try to find a QB. The next Drew Brees ain't walking through that door.
