I think the logic makes sense that you want your dress rehearsal closes to the regular season, especially now that you have 2 weeks between final preseason game and opening day. this is consistent with the schedule when there were 4 preseason games… the dress rehearsal was game 3 then all starters would rest the 4th preseason game. Only difference is the nfl got rid of that completely meaningless game
