Has the trade for Sam Darnold changed your outlook on the 2021 season?
hepcat replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
He could worse by turning the ball over more. But hopefully Darnold balances that out by making more big plays -
Excellent video to watch if you have the time. Really informative on Darnold. Pretty much explains what we already knew. Sam is wildly inconsistent. At times, he makes "wow" level plays that demonstrate his ability. Throws on the run with pinpoint accuracy when a play breaks down, great reads with an even better throw. But then he'll look confused on a play, or just downright lazy, and throw an easy pick. He won't set his feet or body in the direction he's throwing and throw a duck to the other team. Another thing I noticed from the video was, Adam Gase's offense was sh*t. They just called boneheaded plays that didn't make any sense for the defenses they were playing. Joe Brady should, at the very least, put Darnold in more winning situations just by scheme alone. And like Damien Woody said... Will definitely be interesting to see if Darnold can turn it around with better coaching.

Has the trade for Sam Darnold changed your outlook on the 2021 season?

yea but he was good on the jets -

Are you more excited? Less excited? About the same? Are you wondering wtf this team is doing and wish Cam never left? I'm about the same level of excitement, which is about as low as it has been since maybe the 2010 season. Darnold has a much higher ceiling and about the same floor as Teddy did, so worst case scenario, the Panthers are 2-15 and drafting close to #1 overall with the chance to get the best QB in the 2022 draft. Best case scenario, Darnold becomes the franchise QB the Panthers are hoping for, and paid a small price for him.

Additional motivation behind the Darnold trade?
hepcat replied to Peon Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have a strong feeling we're trading back now. Fitterer going to get a 1st, 2nd, and 2nd next year in return. Going to be magical. -
Can we take a moment and enjoy what having a competent GM looks like
hepcat replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
It could be that the only players willing to sign with a team as bad as the Panthers are guys with injury issues. -
Deshaun Watson probably could have. He didn't have much better to work with in Houston and he still put up monster stats. Just goes to show you it's more important to have a good team around the QB position than it is to just have a superstar QB. Hence why my original comment in this thread was to continue building up the defense.

You're probably right. I'm really disappointed in the direction the team has taken since Tepper bought the team. We went from having Cam Newton playing some of his best football in early 2018 to having to find a way to be excited about noodle-armed Teddy Bridgewater and former Jets QB bust Sam Darnold. It's a far cry from the badass teams the Panthers fielded in the 2010s. Really makes it hard to get excited for next season.

How much of this was just wanting to get rid of bridgewater?
hepcat replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
The burned the Teddy "bridge" when they were going to trade him to Detroit for Stafford. There was no coming back from that -
Totally disagree. Bridgewater was the opposite of gambling, he was a safe bet. The team knew what they were getting with him, and he delivered the expected results. A safe QB with a weak arm and limited physical skills, good for high completion percentages and game manager style play. Problem is, the team needed more than that out of the QB position on such a bad roster, and they paid Bridgewater way too much money. On the other hand, Darnold is a straight up bad QB. Borderline horrible. The Panthers are gambling big he can maximize his potential with a better coaching staff and more talent around him. It's definitely a worthwhile bet, but the gamble is much bigger. Bridgewater did what he was expected to do. Darnold is going to need to fundamentally change who he is on the football field to be successful. That's a bigger gamble than Bridgewater was.

I have a feeling he’s going to be terrible. Darnold barely showed any flashes of being good for the Jets. But, he’s still very young and I hope that Rhule and co can coach him up. Bridgewater clearly wasn’t the answer. After this team beat Washington and took themselves out of contention to get the #3 overall pick and get Zach Wilson or Justin Fields, I knew it was going to be a bad offseason. I just can’t believe we’ve gone from Cam Newton to Sam Darnold. Getting harder and harder to be a Panthers fan these days.

Teddy does have a bunch of alts, it’s fact.
-
We did already have one unpredictable wild success story with Jake so what you’re really asking for is a second unpredictable wild success story.
-
They had to add some QB. Going into next season with Bridgewater was going to mean empty stands.

tl;dr: His footwork and throwing mechanics were awful in college.

Panthers will pick up Sam Darnold 5th year option
hepcat replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s still not a terrible move given how young Darnold is. I just wish this kind of trade was available last year instead of signing a known trash QB in Bridgewater. Honestly I just wish the Panthers had rolled with Kyle Allen and had more to work with this offseason money wise. -
So then, what are we netting for Teddy and where’s he headed to?
hepcat replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
I bet Houston is interested -
It’s a massive improvement in potential and the ability to throw deep. Panthers offense has way more talent than the jets did at any point with darnold
-
Stole him! Don’t like the 2nd next year but dude is only 24

No, but I might hire 39 prostitutes if I was into that kind of thing. -

It’s such a bizarre story that I’m waiting to see some cold hard facts and evidence before I crucify the guy. Watson is either one of the biggest sexual deviants in sports history, or this is a smear job of epic proportions. There is no in between. Buzbee is a well-known wildcard. The fact they are all accusers are anonymous raises an eyebrow for me. Andrew Cuomo’s accusers are all out in the open, why aren’t Watson’s? My gut feeling is some of these “masseuses” are really Instagram models that dabble in escort services under the guise of giving a massage. It’s a well known slight of hand in the industry, and a huge gray area tightrope that Buzbee has to carefully navigate. Making all accusers anonymous let’s him control the narrative. But hey, I’m not ruling out the fact Watson could have sexually assaulted these women, regardless of if the women were escorts or not.
