He’s going to start.

He's dumb and injury prone that's pretty much it.

Has to be DJ. I've been wondering what the plan is for him with Anderson signed now.

Not bringing in competition for Darnold or Slye was a huge mistake

They're desperate for a QB after McCarron got injured. -
It's just insane the Panthers didn't bring in any kickers to compete with Slye in training camp.

Ugh. They really do need to bring in someone to compete with him. -
Man he is just CHILLIN if he’s slumming it in the cheap seats at a preseason game. I think Luke just genuinely loves football and maybe grabbed some tix last minute

Panthers O-Line was at their best when they had Norwell and Turner on rookie contracts. Just having 2 cheap quality starters could turn many things around.

??? I didn't mention the 2019 roster.....

I’m not sure where this rumor comes from but Darnold did have coaches around him on the Jets other than Adam Gase. He had Jeremy Bates his rookie year. Dowell Loggains in 2019 and 2020. Also of note, Jim Bob Cooter who had success with Matt Stafford in Detroit as the QB coach and offensive coordinator was the Jets RB coach. If he wasn’t working with Darnold at all, well I guess I wouldn’t be surprised since the Jets are idiots.

I have a feeling that guy would want nothing to do with this mess of a team. Stafford himself nixed the trade to the Panthers. I can imagine the sentiment among veteran QBs might be similar. If anything Rivers should just go back and play for Indy for a few games until Wentz heals up.

He’s been coddled to an epic degree since he came into the NFL. The Jets traded Bridgewater who was his only competition to be the starter his rookie year, then ironically the Panthers did the same thing. Darnold hasn’t really been challenged to win a starting job since he came into the NFL. For a QB with a losing record who statistically graded out as one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL, the treatment he is still getting is insane. Darnold is a QB that should be competing with another QB to win the starting job. Giving it to a guy like him outright, a QB who has achieved literally nothing at the NFL level, is the definition of coddling.

I really hope Rhule figures it out by year 3. Right now the decisions at QB have been questionable at best. But overall the team was bad at all levels last season with some flashes of potential. We just need to see more of those flashes consistently, at all levels. QB is obviously the most important position but teams can win despite poor QB play if the rest of the team can carry them along. It’s not like Drew Brees was carrying the Saints the last few seasons. That roster is stacked and well coached. Bridgewater went 5-0 starting on that squad. So if Rhule can build a quality roster and get mediocre to good QB play out of Darnold, it could be a decent season. Although a lot of things need to improve to see that happen.

I am interested to see if the turf causes more or less injuries than the previous field. Or the field not being an advantage anymore. I remember that 2015 playoff game against the Seahawks and the grass being an advantage that day. The Seahawks came out in the wrong cleats because the panthers ground crew left the grass long or soggy or something. End result was 31-0 at halftime. Either way the Seahawks changed cleats at halftime and almost won the game.

I would have been on board signing ANY veteran QB with previous starter experience. PJ and Grier are third string caliber QBs behind a reclamation project QB. Trubisky vs Darnold would have pushed both QBs to bring their best to win the starting job. Instead, Darnold gets anointed the starter just like he was on the Jets. I am very vocal about not being a fan of that. With no Plan B on the roster it makes me nervous we’re in for another miserable season if Darnold doesn’t work out. -

I mean…there are a lot of “professional football people” who have produced garbage teams. Bottom line is the Panthers put all their eggs in the Sam Darnold basket. I think it was a good idea rolling the dice on Darnold. But I’m critical of it because it’s not like they had no other options to bring in competition for him. There needs to be a Plan B with a reclamation project QB like him. -
He’s not playing because if he gets hurt this team is absolutely f*cked. A season of PJ or Grier would make me vomit.

Makes no sense. Panthers should have signed Trubisky AND traded for Darnold! Plan A and Plan B. Trubisky has at least had some success. He will get another starting opportunity somewhere. What I really think happened is, the Panthers had egg on their face from the Bridgewater failure plain and simple. They knew another season of Teddy would tank fan interest and cause a mutiny, but they didn’t like and/or didn’t think they could get the top QBs in the draft (thanks again for beating Washington). They must not have liked Trubisky either or maybe Mitch didn’t want to play for the Panthers. Who knows. Seems like Darnold was their last ditch option to upgrade the QB position. But when Fields fell to them, they should have taken a shot on him. The QB position is the most important on the team, far more important than CB. But here we are. Hopefully Darnold really does turn it around because if not, we get to watch another miserable season unravel. -
Duh he’s being coddled. Doofy Darnold and the ghosts. The problem is the Panthers don’t have any other starting options if he gets hurt so they’re holding him back despite the obvious need for real game reps. The coaches can pump up his practice reps against other teams all they want it’s not the same as real game reps.

Perspective, Directive, and Erective - The Panthers offensive woes and you
hepcat replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Disagree. Scoring TDs even in the preseason matters. Would have given the entire team more confidence not only in the game but moving forward into the season. I don’t care how you slice it, scoring 3 points in any game is demoralizing.
