The second string of a top defense is not a top defense. And against a second string defense, the Panthers first string offensive line directly cost the Panthers two scoring opportunities. Run blocking and pass blocking were both downright atrocious at times. And if the Steelers first string was in, the way that line was playing….I don’t even want to speculate. But the good news is, the Steelers second string defense is probably better than the Jets first string defense so hopefully Week 1 we see a better performance.

We will see, but it’s obvious the guys they put out with the first string aren’t the best players at their positions. Christiansen, Daley, and maybe Deonte Brown will be starting this season. Maybe not Week 1 but it needs to happen.

Rhule valued getting off the field on 3rd down by drafting Horn. But as we saw last night, is that even going to matter if the offensive line is getting absolutely mauled and Darnold is getting sacked? Even when the defense gave the offensive good field position with a turnover they couldn’t capitalize because of poor offensive line play.

This is a very good draft class. There’s no denying that. The best pick might honestly end up being Marshall. If Marshall reaches his potential, he will make it a very tough decision to keep DJ in two years.

2021 wasn't as good an opportunity but there were many others in the 2019 and 2020 drafts. Erik McCoy really stands out over drafting Little.

Go back to the draft after watching that pathetic performance by the offensive line. Would you draft Slater over Horn? I would. Every time. Jaycee is obviously going to be a good player. But so is Slater. All indications on the Chargers is that he’s looking dominant already. Corner is easier to find talent for in later rounds than LT. Could have drafted a corner where they drafted Christiansen. And has LT locked up and made the entire offensive line look better. Maybe Christiansen will work out at LT. Maybe big money Moton moves over there. Either way I think I’d rather be concerned about who is playing corner than LT.

Let’s not sit here and say that Darnold’s performance against backups on a team that did not seem to care about this game at all was something to celebrate. He wasn’t absolutely terrible but he wasn’t great either. He played acceptably against backups so it really didn’t show us much. If that performance was against the Steelers starters I’d be singing a different tune entirely. At this time, no I’m not convinced he’s better than Teddy yet. He hasn’t done anything to do that yet in his career. But of course he’s barely played for this team. But on paper yep Darnold is worse than Teddy so far in his career by almost every measurable aspect. And I just miss Cam because he was the man. He commanded respect on the field and had attitude. I’ve said this before, Darnold looks lost at times and has the demeanor of a limp noodle. That’s why I thought the panthers messed up not bringing in competition for him. Could have brought out some fire in either QB to win the job. But of course hope Darnold works out in the regular season because we don’t have any other options. He’s not my first second or third choice to be the QB of this team but I’ll support him until he’s not the QB anymore.

We will see how he perform with the game on the line. That limp noodle demeanor doesn’t bode well for crucial moments. Bridgewater crumbled every time. Darnold remains to be seen.

I would be surprised if he didn’t make the roster. He he gets cut loose I guarantee he pops up somewhere else in the NFL. Ran hard, hit the holes, looks like an NFL caliber RB.

Darnold’s confidence and moxie will never be anywhere close to what Jake had. Jake was a sh*t talking Cajun with the balls and swag to back it up. Our last two star QBs had attitude and that is what made them great. Darnold’s has the demeanor of a limp noodle.

Joey Slye - I thought you looked cool with your swole arms and tats and you had so much potential to kick super long FGs for this team. So it didn’t work out here on the Panthers but I GUARANTEE you will get another chance probably on the Bears or something. Look at what happened to Graham Gano - dude got cut from the Redskins and everyone was calling him OH NO GANO because he sucked. Then he got another chance fixed his sh*t and became one of the best kickers in the NFL. Keep your head up, get your confidence back and go be a good kicker for another team and prove the Panthers were wrong and that’s all you can do.
