Yep. Honestly I think Darnold could be a good long term backup.

Fat Fool strikes again. This grease monkey glossed Tepper for tens of millions. What a garbage franchise this has become. -

All the fans that want to tank, you guys are all in on Stroud?
hepcat replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
Stroud is a better prospect than anyone on the roster thread over bye -
I don’t want to alarm you but it has been 7 years

I always thought Wilson was one of the luckiest QBs in the history of the NFL. It seems like every time he needed to make a play he would pull a horseshoe out of his anus and make the exact play they needed. Happened so many times over the years. My thoughts - his luck has finally run out.

He will beat #23 ranked Purdue or something and he will declare himself sultan of the universe

It’s just too early to say. I think Wilks is a good man and a competent football coach. He needs to be in the running for the top position only if this team finishes strong and he leads the team to a winning record or close to it (not counting the 1-4 start under Rhule). The rest of the season will tell us a lot. Let’s say he wins out and the team finishes 9-8 and wins the division. Uh, no duh, I want Wilks back next season no questions asked. But on the flip side let’s say the team utterly collapses and loses the rest of their games to finish 4-13. Bye Felicia. The likely scenario is they finish around 6-11 or 7-10. That puts Wilks with a record of 5-7 or 6-6. Is that good enough to warrant another season? With those records, they probably won’t be in the mix for a top rookie QB in the draft. Who is going to play QB? Who will coach the offense? I just worry if they keep Wilks as HC, we will end up with the same mess we’ve been in without a franchise QB and relying on journeymen offensive coordinators to develop a young QB. If the season finishes as I expect, we will need a complete overhaul on offense. So I’m more into hiring an offensive minded head coach like Shane Steichen, or even Frank Reich. Someone with a history of working with QBs and a track record of success.

Brian Burns has never had a double digit sack season

woooo we win a meaningless game and that doesn’t change the fact the rams offered a stupid amount of compensation for him. The cowboys traded Hershel Walker for a kings ransom and proceeded to turn those picks into Super Bowls -

Eh they’ve quite obviously given up on their coach and on Wilson -

That 3rd and short was a great opportunity to run a play action and get a wide open TE for a TD. That’s a play you might need in a game that matters. Nope, let’s run into the teeth of the defense for a loss. -

He fits there, so much more so than in Charlotte. His personality is better suited to college. -
Dan Graziano: Panthers interested in Frank Reich

The Colts look a lot worse without Eberflus running a top tier defense, I’ll say that much. They were a ground and pound team that played excellent defense the last couple seasons. The defense fell back to average without Eberflus their stud RB got hurt, and Matt Ryan is too old and sucks to overcome that. That said I don’t think Reich should have been fired mid season and the Colts are dumb. -
Tepper is going to have a hard time getting anyone worth a sh*t to work with him

This strategy has been blowing up in team's faces across the NFL with some obvious exceptions, but those are rare and come with a list of caveats. It's time for the Panthers to draft a 1st round QB prospect. It's even MORE important to put an offensive staff together with a proven record of developing a young QB. Shane Steichen is a very intriguing option. He has worked with both Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts, both QB's who look best under his coaching. Maybe he'd be open to bringing in Frank Reich as his offensive coordinator, if Frank doesn't find a head coaching opportunity he finds suitable. Frank Reich is also an interesting option in his own right, and his family apparently lives in the NC region. Would depend on who he'd put on staff, in my opinion.

Say what you want about Bridgewater, the book is written on him. But you can’t say that about Fields. How many 4th quarter comebacks did Cam have 2/3s of the way through his second year? How many have MOST star QBs have that early in their career? The biggest thing Fields has shown this season is that he markedly looks better than his rookie season. If he builds on that he could become a good QB.

You’re missing the point entirely. It’s not that I love Justin Fields, far from it. The point is, it was clearly the right decision for the Panthers to draft him. Even after they traded for Darnold. It’s highlighting the continued failure of the previous and current regime to draft a replacement for Cam Newton. There were multiple opportunities to draft a QB prospect in 2020 and 2021 and they passed on them all.
-
You need a QB and everything else can come second. CB is a premium position. It’s not something you take top 10 if you don’t have an answer at QB. Everyone associated with this franchise should be fired for not understanding that. Hurts should have been picked in 2020, Fields should have been drafted in 2021, they didn’t draft a QB until 2022 for Christ sake. This team is run by idiots.

If they’d just drafted Fields and kept Bridgewater in 2021 we’d be in quite a different situation

If Shanahan doesn’t want him, I don’t want him.
