You have a Vinny Testaverde Panthers jersey? -
It was actually UrinatingTree who questioned the validity of the original comment. Is UrinatingTree a voice of reason?

I posted a thread about trading Horn last week. I'm in favor of trading him for draft capital. Not a fellow draft bust.

I think Canales will get at least 2 full seasons without major scrutiny or risk of being fired. Bt the start of the 3rd season there will need to be more answers than questions. He's a young first time coach and you can't fire someone who we absolutely know is going to need time for a learning curve after 11 games. The team is total buttcheeks right now, especially the offense. It's going to be a lot of work and the team could very easily be the worst team in the NFL again, especially not having the first overall pick to change the fortunes after the worst season in the NFL. The goal for 2024 is to see if Bryce Young is the QB of the future. Canales will need to do everything he can to put Bryce in situations to make plays. If it's clear Bryce is not the guy, Canales should have a shot at selecting a QB with the Panthers 2025 first round pick. By then I'd hope the team is a little more sound in other areas, but the lack of draft capital the next few seasons is going to leave it's mark over the next few seasons. It's quite possible this turns out to be a disaster no matter what Canales does because he was saddled with a bad QB and no first round draft pick in his first season. That's just not a good start. Last season was the time to take a shot on a young coach like this, so they're already a year behind I'd say. It's not a good starting situation. Side note, I think Tepper fired Reich so quickly because he was an old veteran coach and Tepper expected results from someone like that right away. That was a fallacy because the team was much worse than expected and not all of it was Frank Reich's fault. The positive trend at the end of 2022 also gave ownership and the fans false hope the team was improving which is also why results were expected so quickly. Reich was also fired from his job with the Colts because the team had completely fallen apart. So expecting him to morph into some great coach was unrealistic from the start. He was also handed a flawed and physically limited QB who did not fit his system, whether it was his choice to draft him or not. tl;dr - I give Canales at least two full seasons before there's a chance he gets fired. I honestly have my doubts for his success because of the poor situation he begins his coaching tenure with.

My main takeaway is the Panthers need a new AV team because the audio on the video stream was HORRIBLE.

You can hear the Pete Carroll influence in his words. Building a culture and environment, positivity and having fun, etc. I would not go as far to say I’m optimistic about the future of the Panthers, they are down BAD right now. But I will say is Canales is intelligent, communicates well, and seems to have diverse experience. Is he a leader? That remains to be seen. But he has the look and says the right things.

Any idea of what Young is doing in the offseason to improve?

Bryce should be getting ready for his career as a S3 test prep teacher -
And it f*cks over a division rival, even better

Worst kept secret so far

From what I remember last year when he was hired, his family lives in Charlotte and he already owned a house in the area. He was low hanging fruit. He’s almost 70 so he’s got a cushy job being an advisor and he’s probably the true intermediary between Tepper and the coaches. Might not be a bad thing.

Getting Luke Kuechly to just be around the building and in the locker room is a win. Some of his greatness is bound to rub off on someone somewhere

When is Coach Canales introductory press conference?
hepcat replied to philw5289's topic in Carolina Panthers
Shortest tenured coach in panthers history and we just had a guy who only lasted 11 games!!!! -
The thing Fox needs to consider is, who is going to be their top broadcaster for the next 20 years like Troy Aikman was. Is Brady really going to stay interested in broadcasting all that time? He is a man of many interests. They also need to consider that Brady has literally ZERO commentary experience. Olsen cut his teeth doing spot duty at the end of his playing career and has been well received by and large as the top color commentator. It could be a disaster for Fox switching to Brady and pushing Olsen out the door at the same time.

If you want to know how far we have to go?
hepcat replied to Doc Holiday's topic in Carolina Panthers
Panthers got lucky in that game. It was one of the coldest games in Panthers history and the Lions were not prepared to play a ground and pound game. -
All this talk about the CMC trade has got me thinking - should the Panthers trade Jaycee Horn? What could they get in return? Don't get me wrong, Horn is a very good player, when he's on the field. The problem is, Horn has only played in 22 of 51 possible games (43%) for the Panthers. Is the value there to make a trade? He's heading into his 4th season, and the Panthers will need to decide if they pick up his 5th year option this offseason. The Panthers have so many needs on the roster, and still fielded a stout defense without Horn on the field most of the season. If they can recoup a 1st round pick for him or multiple high draft picks, I think you have to consider trading him.

Did the panthers lose on the CMC trade?
hepcat replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
CMC is the son of a former NFL player and an absolute master at saying the right things on camera. He had missed the majority of the previous two seasons with “injuries” that at times seemed a little questionable. Hasn’t missed any time since he was traded! What a coincidence. He also ended up playing for his dad’s former head coaches son, who freaking babysat for him while he was growing up. It’s too perfect for him. And I’m sure CMC’s instagram girlfriend hated Charlotte. -

If you think CMC didn’t want out of Charlotte it must be your first day on earth. -
Pre-shoulder injury Cam Newton would have obliterated Mahomes with that 49ers offense. Vice versa if you put Mahomes with that supporting cast. I mean there’s no weakness on the 49ers offense. Every position is stacked. The Lions completely shut down CMC for 3 quarters, didn’t matter. Aiyuk and Deebo kept things moving. Kittle barely did sh*t in this game but he can light you up for 100 yards easily.
-
Purdy is good and his evasion skills were out of this world tonight. Cam might eat his words. But let’s also not underplay the fact that Purdy has easily the best supporting cast around him of any QB in the NFL by a loooooooooooonnnnnnng shot.
