The Panthers keep making the same mistakes under new GM.

Not that WR isn’t important but the Panthers have had bad to atrocious center play since Kalil retired, and they are poised to do so again. Legette was the 7th WR drafted. They had their pick of all the centers in the draft. Center isn’t sexy but good center play wins games. -

Right because there are zero examples of rookie centers of having immediate success -
I still cannot figure out what kind of team the Panthers are trying to build, and frankly I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t either. But one thing is clear - regardless of who is in charge, the Panthers will continue to bypass drafting starting caliber centers in favor of project WRs. After rightfully cutting the struggling Bradley Bozeman, center was a glaring need coming into the draft. The team claims to be converting former guard Austin Corbett to center, who is coming off two consecutive season ending knee injuries. Corbett has experience at center, and in Madden Franchise Mode this would be a move that makes sense. But going into a critical season for the development of second year QB Bryce Young, drafting a center to grow with seemed like the prudent decision. The selection of WR in Xavier Legette over Center prospects Jackson Powers-Johnson and Zack Frazier, means 4th year receiver Terrace Marshall Jr is likely on borrowed time and will be labeled another Panthers WR draft bust. It also signals that second year WR Jonathan Mingo could be heading that direction as well. Both receivers were drafted in favor of starting caliber centers in their respective drafts. In 2021, Terrace Marshall was selected instead of Creed Humphrey (starting C for the Chiefs) and Josh Myers (starting C for the Packers), who were selected 3 and 4 picks after the Panthers picked Marshall. In 2023, the Panthers picked Mingo ahead of Joe Tippman (starting C for the Jets), and John Michael Schmitz (starting C for the Giants). Legette could become the next Deebo Samuel and make Panthers fans forget about the players they passed on to draft him. But history is not on the Panthers side, who continue to demonstrate the definition of insanity of doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. And I still have no idea what kind of team they are trying to build.

TMJ isn’t making the roster

They needed a starting caliber center worse than another WR. Center is probably going to be a disaster of a position this season. Bad center play will tank the entire line. This team can’t do anything right.

Converted guard coming off serious knee injuries, no backup needed

They need a center so badly

Panthers Select Ja'Tavion Sanders TE - Pick 101, Round 4
hepcat replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Great pick. 10x the receiver that Tremble or Thomas are. -
I know it’s earlt but Dan THE MAN Morgan is IMPRESSING me

It’s a bad draft. Brooks is the only passable pick. -
Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

He’s 20 years old. Very unlikely that happens -
Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

Brooks might be the only player from this draft that is still on the team 4 years from now -
Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3
hepcat replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Brooks can play but 100% on Legette and this pick. -

Looks like a backup quality LB -
Pick Ja’Tavion Sanders

Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

Chuba is a solid complimentary back. Not a guy who can handle the load an entire season. -
Does Bryce have any further excuses for this upcoming year?
hepcat replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
If they had picked JPJ to sure up the center position and paired that with Brooks, I would have said yes. Because it would show a clear commitment to running the ball. But the Legette pick yet again shows the Panthers don’t have a plan. They picked another WR with great physical traits but with trash route running ability who will be dominated by quality NFL CBs. Bryce still doesn’t have a WR1. -
They literally haven’t drafted a center since Ryan Kalil

I was hoping the Legette stuff was smoke. Mitchell is going to be very good. He produced every time he was on the field. Way more credentials than Legette. You’d think this team would go get a more polished commodity at WR after drafting a projects like Mingo and TMJ, but hey, that’s why this is the worst team in the NFL and the owner throws drinks at fans and complains about signs at local restaurants.

Adonai Mitchell is going to be very good in Steichen’s offense. He made a lot of plays for Texas last year. More polished route runner than Legette by a thousand times. Panthers make the wrong pick again.

Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2
hepcat replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
They should have picked Jackson Powers-Johnson and Brooks and the plan would have made sense. I can’t believe they plan to go into the season with a guard coming off some serious knee injuries converting to center with no backup plan. Classic idiot panthers. -
Panthers Select Jonathan Brooks RB - 46th Pick, Round 2

Bijan would have had even better stats if Ewers didn’t get hurt in 2022. Teams knew Texas was going to be giving him the ball. Ewers was very good last year and Brooks benefited from that. Either way I like this pick and think Brooks will be a tone setting RB the Panthers have missed since Stewart retired. -

I did not like the legette pick but I like this one. Brooks was very good until he got hurt. He’s not Bijan but he’s going to be a versatile bell cow RB. -
Would you have called it a good pick if they had chosen JJ McCarthy or Bo Nix? Penix has huge upside if he stays healthy. He has a cannon. They're still waiting to see if they lose draft picks too so this might have been a pick anticipating they won't have a 1st next year.
