I’m glad it didn’t happen. That kind of trade for a 33 year old QB would have crippled this team for a decade. Stafford wasn’t going to elevate a poor roster. Watson might. But his price is even higher. Panthers are probably best off just upgrading the rest the roster, letting the rest of NFL eat each other for QBs, and adding talent at QB once the dust settles next offseason. Would have been a very different offseason if they’d just lost to Washington but we all knew that win sucked.

Unless something drastic happens, you’re right. Bridgewater is going to be the starter next season. Will there be a rookie as his backup? Maybe, but I’m guessing there won’t be. Panthers really screwed themselves beating Washington as we all know. If all the top QBs are gone at 8, Panthers should trade back and accumulate picks. Stack the roster with talent and find a QB next year. With a better team and a healthy CMC, Bridgewater might be just enough to get the team to the playoffs.

Panthers should trade down if the top 4 QBs are gone by their pick. Maybe they can snag an extra 1st next year. If they can’t upgrade the QB spot, flood the roster with talent like Miami did.

Panthers confirmed to be in Stafford discussion
hepcat replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Unless it’s for a reasonable price I’m not really interested in Stafford. Bridgewater and a 2nd, maybe. But damn, if they give up a 1st for Stafford I’ll be really pissed. -

Packers were starting backup tackles against Shaq Barrett and JPP and it didn’t end well. Mahomes is a magician and gets rid of the ball extremely fast. Excited to see how that plays out. -
We all know Bridgewater isn’t the answer. But frankly the Panthers aren’t in a great position to move on from him. He has a $23m cap hit and no team will be jumping for joy to add him to their roster. Picking 8 in the first round, there are a lot of QB hungry teams picking ahead of the Panthers. So, I would not be surprised if the Panthers continue building the roster through the draft and be forced to roll with Bridgewater next season. Could we see someone like Darnold or Trubisky brought in to compete with Teddy? Definitely possible. But if they can draft as well as they did last year, the team will be better regardless.

I thought he might be a surprise QB to change teams this offseason. The 49ers might definitely be in the mix for him.

Big difference trading for a proven QB than a rookie prospect. Watson is worth it. I'm not usually a supporter of trading away a lot of draft assets, but the way Rhule coaches up players, I think this team could win in 2021 and beyond with Watson at QB. Otherwise, they either need to hope one of the top QB's falls to them at 8, draft a rookie QB in the later rounds, or just suck it up and roll with Bridgewater for another season. Another all-defense draft might make for a top 5 defense in a year or two.

Greg is a class act and a legendary Panther. Ring of Honor for sure. HOF maybe.

How soon will Deshaun and Houston be open to trade talks?
hepcat replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m starting to realize that the likelihood the Panthers trade for Watson is extremely low. They don’t have the same draft assets the Jets or Dolphins do, who both have an extra first round pick this year. The Panthers would realistically have to give up CMC to make the deal enticing and work financially, maybe even more like Burns and 2 first round picks. The price is extremely high for a team without extra draft picks. And now with Detroit possibly entering the QB market too, Houston picking at 8 would face the same dilemma the Panthers do, probably not getting a shot at one of the top QB prospects like Fields or Wilson and having to overdraft Mac Jones or Trask. Frankly, the Panthers are in a really shitty position to upgrade at QB this offseason. So glad they beat Washington though. -
No thanks on Stafford. It’s Watson or rookie QB for me. Only way I am cool with Bridgewater even staying on the team is if there’s a rookie behind him waiting to start.

Our old buddy Josh McCown has a job opportunity...
hepcat replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
McCown should probably go be a QB coach first -
Some companies leave job postings up for months or years and never hire anyone for this very reason.

For me it was the Minnesota game. Teddy had a bad game against Tampa both times, but they are one of the best teams in the NFL this season. Teddy straight gave away the game against Minnesota and inexplicably played like trash. You would have thought he would have upped his game against his former team, but it was quite the opposite. Then he threw the coaching staff under the bus after the game. That game ended the season and Teddy's possibility of being a long term option.
