They’ve taken a huge step forward in general competitiveness and that alone bodes well for Dave Canales. It’s a big difference from the end of the seasons under Matt Rhule who seemed to start strong and fade at the end of the season. The difference in these close games had to be red zone performance. They are missing a top level WR and TE, but I think Jatavion Sanders could be that guy at TE, he was really improving before his concussion. If Coker develops and they draft another receiver high in the draft, it could be a very good receiving corps.

Although I like Brooks and he was a great player at Texas, even if you remove the injury, picking a RB in the second round was a questionable move. Could have had Zack Frazier and solidified the C position for a decade. Panthers gonna Panther every draft, pass up obviously good players for no obvious reason.

I know most of y'all want defense but currently at pick 4...

Well it was incredibly successful. He was maybe the best first round draft GM in NFL history especially if Kuechly gets in the HOF. Jeff Otah and his injuries aside I’d argue his worst first round pick was Brian Burns and he may have been more of a Tepper pick forcing Ron Rivera to switch to the 3-4. Back on the topic of the thread I have a feeling the Panthers are picking around 6 or 7. There’s a solid chance the Panthers win 1 or 2 more games. And they should pick the best player at any position. They need everything. -

Can we bring back Marty Hurney just to pick the first round player please. Guy was an ace at these dudes. -
Thomas Davis should give him a call.

Bryce is 4-20 as a starter in the NFL. He’s looking better as of late but I mean, as it stands right now if he won 11 games the next 3 seasons he’d STILL have a losing record. Bryce might never have a winning record as a QB and still have a somewhat successful career, his career started that badly. We shall see is right but he still had a massive mountain to climb.
-
They were trying to recreate the duo of Hubbard and Foreman for some reason and well Brooks’s career is either going to be over before it starts or require a Thomas Davis level miracle
-
He’s still won only 4 games so I mean the jury is still out for awhile right now. Statistically he’s on track for an epically awful first two seasons. But he’s at least passing the eye test and playing competitive football. The biggest step up is that he’s actually throwing and converting some passes.

He will get better if he wants it. He was a raw prospect. He’s still a rookie in the NFL. Like I said earlier if he was in year 3 and playing like he is now, cut him.
-
He’s not playing well for sure but not every rookie comes into the NFL guns blazing. Bryce was the first overall pick and looked like he was prepping for a job selling car insurance before hitting the bench and turning his career around. These players need time to get up to NFL level before we crucify them.

So the plan at center was Austin Corbett who was a converted guard coming off an ACL tear. I think we all knew that wasn’t going to be a long term option. His backup Cade Mays is not a starting caliber player and did not have a good game. Constant pressure up the middle. Doesn’t hike the ball causing a delay of game on 4th down with the game on the line. This team has passed on many starting caliber centers in the draft the past few seasons for players, some of whom aren’t even on the roster or any nfl roster at this time. Center is a big priority in the draft. It’s beyond time for this team to draft the next long term center after patching it over with burned out FAs since Ryan Kalil retired.

He’s a rookie. If he drops that in year 3 I’d fire him into the sun.
-
This is the Panthers way. This team will never ever ever ever be an actual good team. They either win a bunch of close games one year or lose a bunch of close games, and occasionally they’re downright god awful.
-
Too many bad players on the roster.
-
Haha how many times have we seen sh*t like that happen to the Panthers
-
Still a bad team

What is it with Pittsburgh and problem child WRs

Serious question: Jameis Winston or Bryce Young straight-up?
hepcat replied to HardcoreHokie's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’ll take Bryce he’s like 7 years younger and hasn’t hit his ceiling yet. -
On a real note, piñero has been largely good for the panthers. I recall John kasay having some random awful games in his career where he missed extra points and gimme field goals that cost the team the game. But if he doesn’t bounce back, cut him or put him on IR if he’s truly playing through injury.

It’s going to be a great draft to trade down. They’ll need a lot of players on defense. They could draft literally any position on defense in the first round and they’d walk into a starting position.
