It would be oh so Panthers to do this. 2018 against NO backups, 2020 against WAS, and 2021 probably happening all over again.

Doug Pederson on how to build a "quarterback room"

Rhule should be one of four head coaches to see early Black Monday
hepcat replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. We all could see the writing on the wall after the Cowboys took the Panthers defense collective pants off and beat their bare bottoms cherry read in all facets of the game. The blueprint had been laid. College style stunts and tricks to fill gaps doesn't work. Maybe Snow is doing this style because of a lack of size in the front 4. There's a notable lack of talent at LB. Keeping a known run stopping LB like Denzel Perryman, if he'd wanted to play for the Panthers (still not sure why he even signed a contract with this team) would have helped the run D. But now here we sit with a team that is no better than in 2020. I'd even argue the roster is in worse condition. What is better? The secondary? -

This. This is why the fans want Rhule gone. The team overall hasn't improved this season at all. For all the "improvements" the defense supposedly made, they all seem to be coming undone at the end of the season. Tampa is going to drop 40+ on this team twice. New Orleans beating them last week assures that they will have to beat the Panthers twice. It's going to be an ugly season's end. No one is on board for struggling to win 5 games every year. -
foreal. I want this team to go full captain insano for the rest of the season

no scramble brains for mr kuechly please

who cares just go for it on every 4th down and do an onside kick every kickoff literally what does it matter what this team does anymore eliminated from playoff contention

I think Cam needs to be back next season especially if there is a new coaching staff. Cam can obviously still contribute. He’s a leader and a calming presence. They needed him to get through this season without killing each other. He would be a good influence on the young players and a rookie QB just like he was on Mac Jones. What do we expect? Sam Darnold to mentor a rookie??? LOL!!! I’d rather have a former MVP who had been to a Super Bowl doing that, thank you.

It's true that he didn't want to be here and he probably wasn't wrong about that. His vax status is another story.

Officially our worst stretch in Panther history
hepcat replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not quite the worst stretch non-playoffs wise because this team did miss the playoffs 6 straight seasons from 1997-2002. But losing record wise yea this is the first 4 straight seasons of losing records and the first 3 season stretch of double digit losses. -
Word on SNF was it was a concussion and he had feeling and movement in all extremities. He’s staying in the hospital overnight as a precaution.

If we tear it all down again how long would it take...

A good coach could turn it around in 2 seasons. A great one in 1 season. -
The problem with firing Matt Rhule: Who would want to coach this team?
hepcat replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean you are really looking at this team with true rose colored glasses. Take them off. The defense is FAR from great. The stats are greatly misleading. They lack talent at LB, the edge rushers are undersized and get dominated in the run game (as evidenced by several teams rushing for over 200 yards this season). There’s some talented pieces, but calling a defense on a 5-9 team “great” is laughable. The “best RB in football” barely sees the field. The only stat DJ Moore is top 5 in is targets and maybe in the hearts of naive Panthers bros. And the Browns have been a rotating carousel of coaches for the last 20 years….maybe the Panthers were overdue for another bad head coaching hire. -
The problem with firing Matt Rhule: Who would want to coach this team?
hepcat replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed. And that right there is the point of my thread. What coach worth a damn would genuinely want to coach this team? One who is qualified, but doesn’t need a ridiculous contract to be convinced to do it? That is going to be a challenge. -

But that breeds complacency and poor results on the field. Ever heard the expression being “born on second case and thinking you hit a double”? Matt Rhule came to the Panthers as one of the top 10 highest paid head coaches and he’s been one of the worst head coaches in his two seasons. If Tepper throws big money at the next coach and it isn’t someone like Pederson who has a Super bowl ring to back it up, it’s going to end the same way no matter who they hire. -
Doug Pederson Come on Down
hepcat replied to Move the Panthers to Raleigh's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don’t think he would want to coach here and he should have several other opportunities. -
It can buy you a slovenly used car salesman that can single handedly destroy your fanbase. Charlotte FC is probably going to be hot garbage too. I am actively rooting for Tepper’s soccer team to fail. I am an Austin FC season ticket holder and thank god I will not be supporting his other venture.

The problem with firing Matt Rhule: Who would want to coach this team?
hepcat replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
The problem is I believe the team needs someone established like Pederson. They tried the unproven up and comer in Matt Rhule and Joe Brady and the results have been terrible. I think the good candidates this off-season are going to get a lot of attention. Aside from Jacksonville, the Raiders are also in the head coach market. They are another attractive destination. There might be a few more teams with a job opening like Minnesota and Chicago which are both more desirable than coaching the Panthers. I would argue the Panthers would be the worst situation of all teams potentially looking for a head coach this off-season. -
The problem with firing Matt Rhule: Who would want to coach this team?
hepcat replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
They might be able to hire a defensive oriented head coach like Matt Eberflus, knowing he has some decent defensive players to build around. But if you’re an offensive head coach like Doug Pederson, why would you pick a team like the Panthers when a team like Jacksonville has a franchise QB in place. -
I had a thought cross my mind this afternoon after checking the score of yet another miserable Panthers loss (caught only a few plays today). If/When Tepper fires Matt Rhule, what makes this team an attractive head coaching destination? The offense is a mess. There is no franchise QB in place. The offensive line is a disaster. There’s an injury prone RB who might play 4 games a season making a boatload of cash. The defense has a few talented pieces on the D-Line, but they are light on the edges. There’s almost no talent at LB. The secondary is overrated. And above all, the owner doesn’t have a clue how to put together a winner. It’s been noted that both Matthew Stafford and Deshaun Watson refused to be traded to the Panthers. Maybe it’s just because the offensive line is so bad. But maybe they knew how dysfunctional the entire organization is? Does this feeling extend to head coaching candidates? I am worried if the Panthers fire Matt Rhule they might struggle to attract a good head coaching candidate. Hell, Jacksonville is a much more attractive destination with Trevor Lawrence in place. The Panthers are a flaming pile of garbage that needs an exorcism. I don’t know what coach would want to inherit this mess. I guess Tepper will have to offer the next coach a 10 year $200m contract to get anyone worth a damn.
