Next Gen Stat Passing Scores
DaveThePanther2008 replied to CPcavedweller's topic in Carolina Panthers
What's the point of drafting a QB that has more questions about them than Corral? If you have a shot at Stroud, Young or maybe Levi than I get it, but all the others have more questions than answers. Corral or whoever our new coach brings in with him is going to have a better chance of success if we draft more weapons like a TE or WR. -

I'm not against adding a QB in the upcoming draft but I also don't want to draft one in the first round just to say we drafted a 1st round QB. There are other potential starting QBs in round 2. You don't pass on a player that could be a game changer and take a QB that's not worth the value you are using the pick on. We aren't a QB away from the Super Bowl. -

Talk about delusional. Some of you are so hellbent on getting a QB in round one just to say we drafted a QB in round one. You'll take said QB regardless of his question marks. We aren't getting Stroud or Young, both have concerns, but they'll be long gone by the time we pick. But then again, you're part of the Tank for a QB crowd. Tanking is a fans term not a team term. Most have said that we aren't contending next year so why not get another position of need and see what Corral has? If he going to suck so bad, we'll be in the mix for Maye or Williams, who are far better QBs than any in this draft. -

The "healthy" portion IMO is over blown. His injury in preseason was a freak accident but whatever. I've seen some clips where he doesn't always go to the first read. But you can make an argument that ALL of the QBs coming out in this draft have just as many question marks as Corral does. -

Yes, that seems to be an issue. It seems the target gets open, and it takes him another second to make the throw. I know that many don't want Corral but one of his attributes is his quick decision and release. I would love to see what he can do with some real Reps next year. -
I don't want him as a head coach but I'd jump through hoops to get him as our DC. I loved watching our defense when he was here. He was great in Pittsburgh too. He's a perfect fit for DC. A DC that won't leave for a HC job.

A little coaching info from Person
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wilks is a good motivator and has this team believing they could win. BUT when you get manhandled not once but twice there is something wrong with you in game adjustments. Cincinnati destroyed us and Pittsburgh demoralized us. Bring in an offensive minded HC and he'll hire a protege to be the OC and then you find a DC that will stay a DC even after a good season. Someone who's been a HC before and realizes his position in this league is a coordinator. Dom Capers is a Senior Defensive Assistant and is a perfect coach that fills my DC criteria. He's been a HC twice. His forte is defense. If he were to come here as a DC he would probably stay even if we do well defensively. -

I was on the Wilks bandwagon even after the ass-whooping we took in Cincinnati. But after Sunday's game I came to realize that the big games are too big for Wilks. I waited and waited for the Panthers to make adjustments to what the Steelers were doing against us both offensively and defensively. It never happened. This IMO is an indication he has no clue what to do when you are getting handled. Good teams will figure your tendencies out and if you don't adjust you're done. IMO he won't figure out what to do. We'll beat inferior teams but the real good teams will handle us and like you said, we're stuck with 7 or 8 wins. I don't know if Steichen will be great or not as a head coach. But he has his offense 12-1 in a very tough division. He's taken a QB that, IMO was a bubble QB and has him in the MVP conversation. I'd take my chances with this. If he can take a player and work his strengths and get them as the top offense in the league he's got my vote.
-
A bit harsh don't you think? One, we've only played them 6 times since the 4-division format in 02. Yes, we are 0-6 in those games Two, A win is a win so technically he's correct. How about Almost never win. Third, that game wasn't just any game. It clinched the NFC West title and playoff berth. Finally, I was at that game, and it is probably the greatest sports event I ever witnessed live. It may have been 26 years ago and if you want to be more exact Thursday will be exactly 26 years ago. That game was a huge game for our young franchise and saying that someone shouldn't care is worse than making an issue that we haven't beaten them since.

Attacking “glass half full” posters after a loss…
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
While hoping we lose to get a higher draft pick is only for fans. There are consequences for some of the players that aren't your superstars. When teams get to the point that they are eliminated from the playoffs they start to evaluate talent that may not be on the team next year. (Except for Matt Rhule). Players are going to give it their all to win. I think that's the problem with the Tanking Crew. They are wanting it for personal reason when the reality is players play to win, not lose so 1/2 the fan base will be happy. Win or lose I look at our draft position but I, like many others, always hope for a win. -
Dom Capers was an excellent DC, not much of a Head Coach but a great DC. The only question is does his defense fit against today's offenses? Many rule changes since he last coached. Also if he were to become a DC we'd have a better chance of him staying as a DC than to move into a head coaching position.

After the debacle on Sunday, I am ready to move on to a totally different regime. My first choice is Shane Steichen. He has excelled with Hurts as QB. A very mobile Cam like QB. Big, Strong and an added weapon in the running game. I would imagine he would improve our current WR group making them from average to an above average group. I would also think that he would probably want Minshew to come along because he knows the offense which would be a plus while we get our new QB up to speed. So let's say Tepper gets him as our Head Coach. What is your first free agent move? Who is your first pick? Do you go TE and run with who we have on the roster, or do you reach for a Hurts like QB like Richardson at 8 (supposing that we remain at 8)? Who does he bring in as a Defensive Coordinator?
-
I do agree we need a good OC but our weapons are not that good outside of Moore. RB I would say is above average but WR and TE are well below average. Then again, if we have a good OC he could turn these assets into much better groups.
-
It seems to be a never ending story. Seems no matter who we hire as an OC. They can't adjust. We haven't had an OC that can adjust to a game since Dan Henning.
-
We need a complete TE. One that isn't scared to knock the hell out of someone. Our running game depends on a good TE and we don't have one.

The “Maybe Not So Obvious” Elephant in the Room

Don't forget the two 3rd round picks for Jeff Lewis. lol

Sounds like you are in the wrong line of work.

Currently at #8 Stroud is probably 99.5% out of the equation.

Is it OVER for Wilks????
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, I am sure Tepper has a few spurs in his ass over this lose. The one time where we could have beat them and we got manhandled offensively and defensively. I think at this point a deep run in the playoffs is his only hope and with a 5-9 record that seems highly unlikely. -
I swear it was the same fk'ing play every single time. Henderson got burned over and over again on the same out route. Our defensive game plan fit perfectly for what they did. They got the ball out of Trubisky's hands quickly and we just kept doing the same thing. Very disappointed since our HC is supposed to be a defensive minded coach. What gets me is we did nothing to change our approach.
-
Other than Moore none of these guys can get open. Pittsburgh went man to man. Any receiver worth his salt should be able to beat one on one. I give you Marshall is young and improving but we need a lights out WR. I watched part of the Miami game on Saturday. Did you see Waddle's TD. Once he caught the ball it was game over. He went into overdrive and left all the DBs in the dust. It had me laughing because he made the CBs look like linemen and just walked away from them. We need someone like that. I love DJ Moore. But IMO, he's a #2 WR. If you get him a WR like Q. Johnson he becomes a terror to defenses. Without a guy like him. DJ gets his numbers but not nearly what it could be. OC more than QB. I love the ground and pound football, when it works, but we must have an offensive mind that can counter a defense that we played today. If you take away our running game and try to one on one us, you'll pay dearly.
-
This team is in dire need of some offensive weapons. Our TE's can't block, and they can't get open and if they do, they don't catch the ball. We have one receiver we can count on to catch the ball consistently. Pittsburgh played man to man most of the game and we have NO one other than Moore step up. Marshall is sporadic, Smith is hit or miss, Shenault a RB playing WR, he can barely catch a cold. I understand that we need a QB but, if we don't get the one we want we need to address our need for offensive weapons. The last thing we need to do is reach for a QB when there is a stud TE or WR sitting there at our pick.
