We've seen several starting QBs go down this season. Young took a beating yesterday but kept coming back for more. Win or lose he gain a lot of my respect just for coming back. I did not want to see Dalton come in. You can hate his skills but there is no way you can argue about his toughness.

It was a wise pick. T-Mac may be in the OROY running. Had we taken a defensive player we don't end up with Scourton, who IMO is going to be a STUD in the years to come. I remember the conversation they had early in the draft. We aren't going to get a Top WR and the draft had plenty of good defensive players in the 2nd round. T-Mac will be an All-Pro very soon.

Bryce Young every time I give up on him
DaveThePanther2008 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Amazing game. Canales has to learn from this game. Bryce connected with 9 different receivers on some pretty great throws. I thought Coker really stepped up this week. He had been MIA since he came back but had some really nice catches. XL when we thought he was dead showed a glimmer of hope. Bryce owns Tremble a huge steak dinner because that Beast-Mode catch and run was epic. That pass put him past Cam. Back to Canales. Yes, we are a running team, but he has to open it up to make defenses protect more than the running game. It seemed to me we had a gameplan to spread the ball around. Though we had less than 100 yds rushing they were not going to let Rico get lose. Rico ran hard every play and that was enough to keep the Falcons concerned. I was thoroughly disappointed after last week and like many other, had given up on Bryce. I am still thinking we need a QB that can use the whole field but, if we cannot find one than Canales needs to do better in game-to-game game planning. -

I would love to win this game just because it is the Falcons and beating them is always a great thing. London is supposed to play so Horn will have his work cut out for him. He torched us last time. Fortunately, we controlled the game. Go Panthers -
Unless something has changed over the past week. I do not see us controlling the game like we did in week 3. Atlanta, though out of the playoffs, is playing much better than we are. Plus it is in Atlanta. I am not holding any hope of winning this game.

ESPN's Benjamin Solak on Panthers QB situation
DaveThePanther2008 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Let's not forget that SF gave up 3 #1s to get him. You don't quit on a player you give 3 huge picks for because he has one or two bad games. Purdy is the only reason SF doesn't look totally stupid. -

When he did, he looked lost. He was always ready to run with the ball. He was terrible. Let's not think he's just been overlooked. He played terrible when he played. -

Lance would be an interesting pick up. After being a backup for several years he's probably matured. It's just a matter of whether he can lead a team without terrible mistakes that he had with the 49ers. -
Come on, there are several options available. Speculate. Kind of dodging the question. I can probably surmise that anyone you mention will have as many issues as any I bring up. BTW you talk about Gunslinger mentality is something you don't want. I recall we had our own gunslinger that took us to the Super Bowl. Remember Jake Delhomme?
-
Young will be here in 2026 but I seriously doubt they pick up his option. He's not worth the big money they would have to give him for the 5th year.
-
I doubt they pick up his option. He'll be backup next season. We have to address this position either through the draft or Free Agency.
-
So looking at the current standings we are 15th in draft order. Several teams will probably pass us especially if we actually lose out. There are 3 teams that most definitely will be drafting a QB Jets, Raiders and Saints Cardinals (Murray), Dolphins (Tua) and Houston (Stroud) with question marks Browns Gabriel and Sanders but maybe they jump on another QB if they get high pick Titans (Ward), Commanders (Daniels), Falcons (Penix) Giants (Dart) Vikings (McCarthy) all young QBs but most likely wont' be drafting a QB. Dallas (Dak) and Bengals (Burrow) doubtful I doubt Jets, Raiders and Saints surpass us in wins. So we'd be in the window for the 4th best QB in a bad QB class.

So, who is it you want?
-
You're basing this off of one season as a starting QB? The offensive line he had was terrible, yet he still threw for nearly 4000 yards. He has a big arm. Granted he has some faults but So did Darold, so did Mayfield but they changed. Winston had several years of gunslinging as you say. Howell had one season. The only reason they moved on from him was falling into Daniels. I think of everyone on this list Howell has as many good qualities as any.
-
I'm not sure why so many of these posts leave Sam Howell off the list. He had good numbers with Washington and as far as I've been able to see he's still on his rookie contract. (Doesn't mean there isn't an extension or something I just couldn't see anything where he's signed beyond 2025) Howell is still pretty young, got a good arm and did well in 2023 with the Commanders. Yeah I know 21 Ints is scary but that was also his first season at QB and many HOFers have had rough first seasons.

I’m out on Bryce, Canales and this team

What I meant was we will never get PAST mediocrity. Right now, we're not even mediocre. With Young Mediocracy is our ceiling. We'll never be anything better than .500 -
Canales Did Not Call a Terrible Game

We have 7 games left. Put Hooker to the test. See if he's learned anything. IMO Bryce is done. -

I've been a big supporter of Young but after yesterday I have to face the reality that many of you were right. We're never getting past mediocrity until we get a QB that can use the entire field. We're too easy to defend. -
I am all in on giving Hooker a look. We aren't a playoff team and we need to start looking elsewhere for a QB. I've been probably one of the most patient fans when it came to Bryce Young but after yesterday it is very clear he can't carry a team. Hooker showed he could carry a team with Tennessee. While it was college he had that ability. We need to give him a look.
-
Treymayne to me is another great find. IMO he just needs more REPS. XL just seems so invisible on the field and I totally agree we can't have a raw WR on the field. We need excellent route runners and ballers. XL isn't a baller IMO.
-
I would not say I'm a Nut hugger because I thought he would come around but after watching yesterday's performance I no longer believe he's anything more than a capable backup. The question is, is do you take a midround first for a QB? I also believe we need a good offensive coordinator. We run thw most vanilla offense in the league.
