2023 was abysmal and that's being kind. What was supposed to be a strength turned into a nightmare. FA signing underperformed and that's being kind also with the exception of Theilen. Defense was overworked and some key players weren't available. OFFENSIVELY, WHAT IF Canales gets our O-line out of that crazy zone blocking scheme and gets back to smashmouth football. Something our O-Line was better at than the zone blocking BS. We run the ball effectively and take the pressure of Young having to shoulder the load. We get some real receivers in here. If we bring in through Free Agency someone like Mike Evans and maybe draft a WR with 33. My opinion is that our O-line group is not as bad as many want to believe. I think Icky didn't respond well to the Reich zone blocking scheme and his sophomore season was one to forget. I believe that the Canales and Morgan philosophy of bringing the dawg out of our players will improve our O-line greatly. If all these things happen, which IMO isn't not impossible, we might just be competitive offensively to make some noise next year. DEFENSIVELY, WHAT IF We have Evero back with his defense. The players already know his scheme and 2024 they should be even better than 2023. Our offense reduces the 3 and outs and we don't have the defense on the field for 40 plus minutes. We keep Luvu and either re-sign Burns or get a pick for him. Draft a DE and get another one in the draft. Horn will stay healthy this year. This is a season where his money is at stake, and I believe he'll play many more games than he'll miss. I think Evero can make this defensive squad a legitimate top 10 defense. Being the eternal optimist that I am, if all these things came together maybe we actually win more than we lose and make the playoffs. Summary I think Morgan is going to bring is some Free Agent Dawgs and draft a couple more. I think this our offense is fixable and with the right coaches we could get back to an offense that can put points on the board. The defense will be a legitimate Top 10 and we'll win our fair share of our game.

I think the thing we want to see as he makes these mistakes is that he doesn't repeat them. Tepper has to give him time to grow into the position. I think Canales has the makings of a coach that we can have around here for many years. Optimistic of course but he seems to have the right mindset. Though he didn't mention a timeline I think he's going to do well in Carolina.

There was a YouTube video where they said Morgan mentioned all the greats that have played for the Panthers and didn't mention any of the current players that were in the press conference. They said it was Morgan's way of putting them on notice that their jobs weren't safe. Canales comment about doing what our player are capable of tells me two things. One was we are going to play to our strengths. Two that 2025 offense may be quite different than the one we will see in 2024. Morgan's hire makes me believe that though he may have had input that the final decision was on Fitterer and he chose not to select the DAWGS that Morgan wanted. Morgan gave props to all the GMs that he worked for in the past but never mention Fitterer. It's only an opinion but I get the feeling Morgan didn't get many of the player he thought we should have drafted. We'll see in about 3 months.

1. I will be watching every episode. 2. I don't find it fluffy at all. I think they point out, especially about D'Mo is he knows what it takes to play. One point Rucker or Moose made was you can have all the traits and still not be able to play and not be a prototype player but can play. This will help weeding through the draft and free agency. When March 13 comes we should be watching who we bring in. Tough and smart. They reminded us we went from 1-15 to the Super Bowl in 2 seasons. So why not a repeat. This got me excited about what could be possible. 3. I love hearing from all these guys. I'd like them to add Olsen, Jake and Gross.

I wonder what the legalities are on this. His title was Head Coach and was removed as HC. Unless he signed off on the consultant position. I don't see where you can basically fire a guy from a position but try to keep him with a new title without his permission. Seattle is sneaky like that though.

Chark was speed but he did literally nothing for us. We have speedy guys but they can't get open. i attribute that to poor route running. I personally don't believe we put alot of emphasis on route running. I hear what you are saying but there has to be a happy medium in there somewhere.

When is Coach Canales introductory press conference?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to philw5289's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we can score points on a regular basis that would be a win. Get top 5 in 2025 would really help this team move on from the disaster we've had since Fitterer was here. -
This very well might be the reason. I can't accept that a line that was supposed to be a strength going into 2023 all of a sudden can't block anyone. The more I hear is Young was getting input from a thousand direction and got him all messed up. Hopefully, Canales will get this straight and our line goes back to being a decent O-Line.

I just hope these guys are innovative. It is crazy to watch us run plays that are outdated and easy to defend. It's frustrating to watch other teams run some pretty cool plays, and I am not talking gadget plays only, and we run a vanilla offense. I look forward to Canales getting our O-Line straight with the players we already have and draft a couple of weapons for Young. He sorely needs them.

This is what I am looking for in a receiver this year. I could care less if he is the faster WR in the group or not. If he can run a great route and get separation, I'll take it. I'm tired of the big receivers that can't get open and when they do, they can't seem to catch the ball. Young would have a ton of more success if we didn't have so many drops.

Any idea of what Young is doing in the offseason to improve?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
A small break is expected but if Young is truly concerned about his deficiencies than he should be working on them soon. If he's not, he's probably working on what to do when he becomes one of the most overrated busts in recent memory. -
There were some statements not long after Reich was fired with Olsen's name being mentioned as a head coach. That's a bit too much. However, Olsen is from a football family. I believe his dad is a HOF in NJ sports but, at minimum, he was a highly regarded coach. There is no doubt in my mind that Greg could be a great coach. I would love to see him on the staff in some capacity along with Kuechly.

Why carolina can not* afford to lose Burns
DaveThePanther2008 replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
This IMO is the best move. Get some picks for him as we are in desperate need of draft capital. I agree, I would rather put the money on these guys who have proven game in and game out they are studs. I am still baffled about this move. You trade away arguably the best offensive weapon in the NFL for literally nothing. No offense to DJ Johnson. We then keep a player we could have used those two first round draft picks to get Young without giving up our 2024 draft pick and DJ Moore. This could have been used to trade down and fill so many gaps including a top tier DE. -
Should the Panthers trade Jaycee Horn?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
If he made it to the trade deadline without injury, I would deal him in a heartbeat for a 1st. -
Should the Panthers trade Jaycee Horn?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Most definitely for a 1st or 2nd. Maybe a 3rd and a 4th or 5th. Otherwise, as you said, ride with it. -
It has to be an upward movement. He can't interview for a DC job with another team unless we give him permission. Canales should keep him. This allows him to focus on what he knows best and that's offense. He can let Evero run the defense and take a big burden off his shoulders. Plus keeping him for 2 seasons gives us 2 third round picks if he is signed away as a head coach. That would definitely help with the 2025 draft.

DaveThePanther2008 replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Carolina Panthers
A flag against the offense? Impossible. I have seen some bad calls that favored one team (ie. New England) but the refs have taken it to another level when it comes to KC. KC is a Goodell favorite. -
Agreed. I can't thinkof one player we drafted with those picks that made an impact. We were stupid enough to take 2nds instead of 1st round picks.
-
I think we should draft a WR. Mingo and Theilen would IMO be the only ones I would keep. TMJ is a bust. I want a WR that's fast but is smart and can run routes. A great example is Puka Nacau. What a great find in Round 5. Speaking of which. We need to hit on some lower round prospects. I don't think we've had a good hit on a lower round since Andrew Norwell.
