So many teams are not watching what we are doing. They are going to have a rude awakening very soon. I If this defense is top 10. I think if Darnold can keep the mistakes down and put some points on the board we are going to win many games. I also think we will play well against anyone we face in 2021.

Panthers Confidential - A Look Into the Panthers Offseason
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DeSim's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers Camp Confidential is one of the best productions I have watched. Every year they do such an amazing job of telling us how it is. I loved they sat down before the draft and pretty much nailed the first seven picks. They would have made Mel Kiper and the others look stupid. It just goes to show how much attention to detail our staff does. Not only who we are targeting but also what other teams are thinking. What I also enjoyed was they were discussing the players we selected well in advance of the actual selection. We got just about everyone we wanted when we wanted them. Watching those phone call to those young men was fun. Most were truly humble and honored to be selected. After watching this I cannot wait to see this team on the field. I try to contain myself but I have a very strong feeling our defense is going to be amazing. I can't wait for the next episode. -
What we need to see from Sammy D in OTAs
DaveThePanther2008 replied to CarolinaLivin's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm onboard with this. He's had 3 seasons under his belt. Regardless of age he should know what's out there. IMO his age was only a factor in bringing him here. Young with some experience. We're going to know, just like we knew with Teddy, after one season whether he has the tools, the confidence and leadership to run this team for the next 10+ years. There won't be much of a difference between Darnold and Teddy if Darnold continually loses games over pour decisions. Poor decision = inability to make all throws. I'm still hanging my hat that he will succeed here but you make a great point. -
Ron "learning from his mistakes" in Carolina
DaveThePanther2008 replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ron was a veteran and probably got passed over for a better talented player and never let it go. He must have felt his veteran status gave him the upper hand. Never forget Norwell not getting his chance until a sorry ass guard went down with injury. And then had the thought of bringing him back after his injury. Thank god he didn't. He can say he's learned from his mistakes. I'm not buying it. -
High: DJ Moore. I think with the addition of a QB that can throw the deep ball. DJ is going to have a monster year. Not Sure: Christian Miller. I think his athleticism will be an added value to the defense but not sure if he will come in shape and ready. Bad: Whoever is playing FS. We don't really have an answer to this position and we're banking on players that really aren't natural free safeties.

I think what is good for us is that he has time to develop. He doesn't have to be thrown in the fire. He'll have time to learn and improve.

Lawrence was one, Wilson was two. What would they need a smokescreen for? Getting some team to trade up to 4? I don't buy the smokescreen theory. There would have been no need to create one because there would have been no one for them to trade up to in front of them for Lance. IMO they initially thought Jones was their man but later determined that Lance was too good to pass up.

My first Panther game was the game against Pittsburgh where Chad Cota intercepted Cordell Stewart in the end zone and we clinched the NFCW title.. My family went at the last minute and ended up getting scalped tickets. We were in the same end zone. It was one of the most insane loudest moments in my life. The stadium was shaking and all I could think of was the walls of Jericho. I think X-clown was my favorite moment as it put Steve Smith in the realm of greatness. Watching us put 300 yards on TB was an amazing game. Another personal favorite was watching Cam score on the 51yd run against TB in 2011. I was at that game with 9 family members and we were staying in a home in the mountains for Christmas. I flew in from Afghanistan that morning. What a great game and started my Christmas holiday off perfectly.

I think of the 5 mentioned Brown and Franklin have the best opportunity to start. Nixon hopefully will fit into the DT rotation. It's great that we have 4 or 5 DTs that can rotate. Here's a thought to ponder. With Pride's size could he be given some reps as a Free Safety during the upcoming OTA's and minicamp? Seems we are so thin at FS it would be sad to have a talented player sitting behind Horn, Jackson and Bouye. Smith IMO will get some reps as during the season. I know he is behind probably our best position on the team but his talent is too good to be letting him sit on the bench.

Post Rookie Mini Camp 53 man Roster Projection
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
I wouldn't be surprised to see that he got 50 of 53 right. I like how he didn't list a fullback and Tremble will most likely fill that role when needed. I totally agree about Little, Grier and Thomas. Last of the Hurney hopefuls to be cut. -
All Time Favorite JAG (Just a Guy)
DaveThePanther2008 replied to CanadianCat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Loved when we had Will Witherspoon and I loved how when Norwell played for us. -
You know I was just thinking about this. Unitas (My Hero when I was young) was from Louisville and one of the greatest. Great point about Staubach. Schools make no difference. There isn't a QB University. Thanks for posting this.

bP Video: SELECT YOUR CHARACTER
DaveThePanther2008 replied to bLACKpANTHER's topic in Carolina Panthers
Darnold and the offense has kind of overshadowed the new additions to this defense this offseason. I am super excited to see our go and kick some butt. We quite a few studs and I think with a full offseason this defense is going to come out of the gates and surprise a lot of people -
How long did you have to dig to find a way to make it sound like he's not as good? TDs aren't the qualifying argument. You can manipulate stats for any argument. How many drops compared to targets and receptions. So how are you going to dismiss that he actually had a higher rating than Kittle coming out of college? I have seen where he had some drop issues and didn't get many reps after they moved another TE into the mix but he still had many positive receptions.

D.Watson are we still interested ?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Leotiger's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's a good situation for us. Watson will most likely be suspended all or most of 2021. IMO if he is suspended and stays out for the whole year he paid his price and should have an opportunity to play again. I am fully onboard the Darnold experiment. I think he is going to do well and make this a mute point. BUT, If he does fail we have done very well in putting all the elements on the field to give a player like Watson a chance to step in and put us in the Super Bowl. In short, If Darnold fails. We'll be interested. -
You mean how some compared Fields to Mahomes? I don't think it is a far fetched Idea that Tremble could be compared to Kittle. As noted, he came from a similar situation and is rated as a better prospect than Kittle coming out of college. He was also rated as he 2nd best TE coming out of this draft. (At least on a few of the pundits.) Every year basically every player coming out of the draft is compared to a current NFL player. Some pan out to be as advertised. Some don't. I'll put my cap on as advertised. If Brady uses him properly and he shows he was under utilized at ND we could have 5 amazing targets on the field at the same time. Imagine Moore, Anderson, Marshall, Tremble and CMC going out for passes. Someone is going to be open or at minimum one on one.

If Brown can be effective at 340 than I agree with Rhule to let him play with what he is comfortable with. That video of him moving around on the B-Ball court at 415 tells me he won't have any problem at 340.

The evolution to being a perennial winner.
DaveThePanther2008 replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
Even with all the question marks around Field you are implying he is a franchise QB. I think that is stretching it a bit. He might turn out to be a Franchise QB but he may also be an average QB as well. I like Darnold's chance of being a franchise QB more than I believe Fields will be one. -
No, a bust is where a player has been evaluated to be a great pick a la our latest bust Little. Burns would never be a bust. His talent and measurables would overshadow poor coaching. While he may not have stats because of poor coaching. He would not be a bust in any situation. Based on your theory if we cut Burns because of poor coaching and considered him a bust. However when he goes to another team performed as he has with us. He wouldn't be a bust. Those players were cut by our staff because they didn't them our top 53. They were picked up by other teams and performed well. Your opinion was they were a bust where my is that they weren't a bust but didn't make our team. Low round player that didn't make our top 53. My point is because we cut a player that was drafted in the lower rounds doesn't necessarily mean they were a bust. I just means they weren't the top 53 players on our team. Every year teams cut players and they end up on other teams. We do it almost every year. A team cuts a player and we sign them just as players from our team end up signing with other teams. If players from your top 4 rounds aren't on your team when the season start. You evaluated poorly. This was a continual problem with Hurney. We drafted far too many players in the top 4 rounds that didn't contribute. You can add Gettleman's to this problem as well. We'll have to wait and see if Fitterer falls into this category. From the picks we made 2 weeks ago. I'll be shocked if our first 9 picks aren't on the team.
-
To make it clear to you. First thru Forth round picks should be starters and contributors. Based on your logic any player that was drafted and cut is a bust but I can think of two players we cut who went on to have pretty good careers. Hove and Mathis. I am sure that there are more.

THE GREATEST QUOTE IN CAROLINA PANTHERS HISTORY
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
KEEP POUNDING is our mantra from one of our greatest players ICE UP, SON is classic And pretty much any other Quote from Steve Smith is in the top 10. -
This isn't college basketball where players go to school for one year and play basketball. He, I assume, graduated which means he had to attend class. I'm not 100% sure of this but aren't college players limited in the time they can practice and workout while in college. He'll have far more time to workout in the NFL. I don't know if many of you remember the 80's but during my time at ECU there was an article about weight training rooms across the country. ECU was behind only Oklahoma and Penn St (as I recall) in quality of Weight Rooms. ECU had one of the best in the country back then. I'm sure now that has changed.
