Panthers meet with Sam Howell
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Really he didn't navigate the pocket? Considering his pocket was nearly non-existent in 2021. His pocket presence according to people who actually scout these guys say it's pretty good. Definitely agree with this because your opinion sounds more like a hater of the player for whatever reason than anything logical. -

That's a false statement. Everything I have seen and read about him says he reads the field well and makes plays. His biggest issue in 2021 was he had no established WR. All were new replacements for the ones who got drafted in 2021. Mechanical flaws I guess that depends on who says so. He may have some but those can be coached out. -

So basically only Howell has flaws in this draft? The others are completely polished ready to go. No one said he was flawless. I'm a UNC fan but it has nothing to do with my take on Howell. There have been several UNC players that I didn't want over the years. My take is he's being highly undervalued. Pickett and Howell are the best of this class at processing a play and making the right throw. I pointed out that Howell was #1 of this class in 3rd down completions. -

That's your take. I respect that but I'm saying it now and will eat crow if I have to but we're going to be kicking ourselves in the ass when he proves doubter wrong. -

I like how quickly he saw this and threw it perfectly. -

He will be lucky if he makes it out of round one and definitely gone by mid 2nd round. 4th round is stretching it a bit don'tcha think. -

I think a trade back would be perfect for us. I thought of a scenario of us taking Wills at 6 and keeping him away for N.O. and Atlanta. Trading the pick later in the draft and getting Howell later plus a bunch of extra picks. -

I posted the link, Bro. It says 4 hours ago. So who am I to say it's BS. -
He's only in his starting his 4th year of his rookie deal. He wants a new contract now but Arizona has no obligation to pay him for what he want. He wants big bucks and we aren't in any position to increase our QB room with another outrageous contract. He won't be a Panther

Panthers Are Reportedly Meeting With Notable Quarterback (msn.com) I have always been on the Sam Howell bandwagon and after reading a couple of articles about all the QBs I believe he is being highly undervalued. Howell had an amazing 2020 and if he was eligible he would have probably been the 3rd QB off the board last year. Many want to point it as a fault of Sam's but he lost 4 play makers off UNCs roster to the NFL after that season. You don't just replace 4 NFL caliber players in one season. He still came within 500 yds of matching is 202 stats. Completion percentage was lower but some of it can be attributed to dropped passes. A couple of articles I have read compare Sam Howell to Drew Brees. While there are others comparisons that compare him to lesser QBs. More than one article compares him to Brees. He's a tad taller but has the same arm strength and mobility. He's not a runner but can use his legs to gain a 1st down when necessary. He also is good processor and isn't a one read QB. One interesting note I saw was Sam has the best 3rd down conversion of all QBs in this draft. I think he's going to make everyone regret passing on him in 10 days. I hope we trade down. Grab a couple extra picks and select Howell.

Christensen vs The Draft Prospects
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Absolutely, we knew by midseason we weren't going anywhere with what we had. BC had a far larger upside than anything we kept trotting out there. All that I kept thinking of was Rhule doing a Rivera and playing veterans over rookies. I also thought we should have put Brown out there and let him work on his craft. We blew a great opportunity to evaluate the younger talent on this team because Rhule was being bullheaded. -
Josh Norris on Panthers 1st round plans

Another thing that makes we want Howell more than any of the others. Howell had an amazing year in 2020 at UNC. He had a solid O-line (which i think we have now) He had legit WRs (which we have) and a good running game (which we have) and a pretty decent TE. He has the ability to stretch the field and the pocket presence to maneuver or run. He's not a one read QB. He reminds me so much of Mac Jones by being so undervalued he slipped all the way to NE. I'm telling you now, at the end of 2022 season he is going to be one of the ones we wished we drafted. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sam Howell is being HIGHLY undervalued in this draft. Guess we'll see. -
Josh Norris on Panthers 1st round plans

It depends on who we trade with. It would be nice if we trade with the Jets at #10. They get their defensive players that they want and we would have 10 and 35 or 38 which could land us a QB and a solid O-lineman. -
Willis left Auburn because he couldn't crack the line-up. instead of transferring back to a real college after his Junior year, like Cam did. Willis decided to stay and pad his stats. Whereas Cam left Florida for stupidity as a sophomore and went to Blinn for one year and then WENT BACK TO A REAL PROGRAM and won the National Title.

Pickett is a 4 year starter and is probably the most pro ready of the top 5 QBs. Howell, IMO, is being highly undervalued. His 2020 season would have put him right behind Lawrence and Wilson. HIS TEAM not him was the reason he didn't have the great success he had in 2020. He has all the tools and is not a one read QB like Willis. The way we have addressed our line and we have top tier WR and RBs. Howell would do well with us. I doubt he makes it to the 2nd round.
