What 2nd year Player are you most excited about?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to CanadianCat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am honestly looking forward to all of these guys making more contributions to this team this year, minus Fletcher. If I were to pick one or two. Marshall and Hubbard. -
Ray was probably the most intimidating MLB. He was just brutal. Too many great ones to argue over but Luke was special. Luke was a surgeon. There were many good LB that could diagnose a play but I think it's hard to find anyone better than Luke. I remember when he was #4 (I think) in the NFL Top 100 and half of the segment was players saying he knew what the play was and where it was going. I think my favorite was his back to back interceptions against Romo. The first one he baited Romo and picked him off for a TD. Than he baited him again as Romo ran the same play and thought he would get Luke to bite as he did in the previous play. Luke hinted at it and turned the other direction and nabbed his second Int in as many plays. As far as HOF. First Ballot no doubt and would not be surprised to see unanimously selected first ballot.

2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Actually you did. " I wouldn't have gone into the season relying on a 4th round rookie as my only backup to CMC." You mean you hated the pick and cannot nor will not accept that he has a role on this team. While he may not start he'll see playing time. McAdoo will enjoy the skillset of CMC, Foreman and Hubbard. I hope they take a load off of CMC. I can also see CMC in the slot and either Foreman or Hubbard at RB. -

Where did I say Hubbard was the ONLY backup to CMC? You must learn how to read before you spout your mouth off. This entire post was to say our 2021 rookies would contribute more in 2022. Somehow you think if a draft pick doesn't pan out in year one he's a bust. -

No where did I ever say Hubbard was better than CMC. That would be a ludicrous statement. What the entire post was about was our rookies from 2021 would and should be counted on to contribute more this season. -

DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Equally you hate on a rookie RB because he didn't catch out of the backfield well. Room for improvement. If CMC stays healthy he probably won't get as many carries but he'll have a better YPC and catch better this year. Glad you aren't running the roster. We'd have only front line players and no depth. -
2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks

Sub-Par? Hubbard was 4th amongst all rookie running backs rushing yards. Not bad considering he played behind the worst O-line in history. SF Mitchell 963 Den Williams 903 NYJ Carter 639 Car Hubbard 612 Hubbard would not be the first RB to have a bad rookie year in catching footballs. You make it sound as if since he had a poor year catching the ball out of the backfield he's not worth keeping. If he were a 3rd or 4th year running back I might agree with you. The difference between you and I is I see for what he was, A rookie. You see him as a polished vet that is mediocre. The point of the OP was our rookies from 2021 can and should produce more. While he may or may not surpass his 2021 numbers due to CMC and Foreman getting most of the carries. I do see him contributing with much better stats wise in 2022. And should either go down he will be a reliable RB. HE'LL 100% make the team. I'd bet on it. -
If we find someone on the other side that can make things difficult for the QB I see no reason why he couldn't win the DPOY. Burns is a beast.

2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's obvious that you don't like him but some of your rebuttals are absolute way off base. You know they say that statistic can be manipulated to make any point. You just proved it. Sadly, for you, I fact checked them. There might be 2 or 3 running backs in the NFL other than CMC that would have averaged more YPC behind our offensive line. Henry, Johnson and maybe one more. In fact Bonnafan, Tremble, Darnold, Newton, Moore and Chandler Bonnafan has one Freaking carry for 4 yds. Why wasn't he be our #! back right behind CMC. Tremble was a trick play, Moore is a WR that got a couple jet sweeps. QB's always have a good YPC because they knock out 10 or 15 yards on a broke play. Gotta do better than this. The only running back with more than one carry was Abduallah. How could we let such a good asset go. I guess the 3.1 ypc wasn't enough to keep him. That's a half a ypc less than Hubbard. There have been many RB that aren't great receivers their first year. Plus Darnold wasn't the most accurate passer on those plays. I'd give him a break. -
2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Definitely agree with this. I think we all could honestly say by mid-season we all knew playoffs were out of the question. We should have given Brown, Smith, Marshall and Nixon more playing time. BC should have seen LT from the midway point. It was embarrassing to see what Rhule was putting out there for our O-line and sitting Brown and co. Made absolutely no sense. Some may have seen it as tanking but it would have helped us going into 2022. Hubbard wasn't bad as a rookie considering how anemic our O-line was. Someone pointed out that CMC average 4.5 while Hubbard was only 3.6. 1. CMC is a different level of talent and not many would average what he did. 2. By the time Hubbard started to get acclimated our O-line was worse than when CMC was in there. Hubbard will make the team. period. Brown will be a backup unless he just balls out during preseason. He may come in with a chip on his shoulder. I think Campen will love working with him. Smith is about the only one I see on the bubble and mostly because of his off the field issues. -

DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
I won't say he failed at all. Brady IMO didn't know how to use him. Tremble has the talent and I think he'll have better 2022. Agreed on Marshall but I felt Rhule was playing the veteran card with Marshall. The guy balled out in training camp but didn't see the field much. -
2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed, Too many people in this forum expect every draft pick to be instant starters and produce numbers that say they were an awesome draft pick. 2021 picks just about all of them contributed during the season. We can't say that about many, if any, of our previous drafts. MY belief is that year two the game will slow down for many of these guys and with better coaching they are going to statically improve. Are any of them full time starters outside of Horn and Christensen? Maybe not but if they contribute in the time they are on the field than those draft picks are a success. Nixon and Hoskins are prime examples. They showed flashes and hopefully they become good rotational players. In the end defenses are graded on a whole not just who's starting. I look forward to seeing 2021 class and our new rookies to contribute and make this team good. Maybe I am just overly optimistic but unlike many huddler's believe. I don't think our 2021 picks have reached their full potential. -
2021 Carolina Panther's draft picks
DaveThePanther2008 replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
McAdoo uses the tight end in his offense. (or so I have heard) Tremble should have much better numbers this year. I think he is under valued as a receiver. Also as you said I wouldn't be surprised to see Thomas do well in this offense too. Hubbard had 3.6 yards per carry behind the worst line in the NFL. I think given a better offensive line he is going to have a much better YPC in 2022. The trio of CMC, Foreman and Hubbard is going to give McAdoo fresh legs each game. Plus each RB has their own unique skill set which will also give McAdoo a variety of ways to use them. I like our RB room. -
Most of us are raving about our 2022 picks and rightly so. Icky and Corral were awesome choices. Not to mention the potential we have in our other picks. It got me to thinking what should we expect from our sophomore class. I always contended that 2021 was one of Carolina's best drafts. I think it is time for them to get going and start contributing. JC Horn - I expect him to pick up where he left off and with Wilks being his new coach he will be even better. T. Marshall - I think he is going to take what he showed in preseason 2021 and apply it to the field. I think Corral will love his height and catch radius. I expect good numbers from him. B. Christensen - I think he starts whether it is LT and let Icky get used to the speed of the game at guard or be inside as a guard but either way I think he starts. *** See D. Brown*** T. Tremble - I think he is going to be a beast in the running game and really improve in the passing game. We don't really have that big named TE and I believe he will be the #1 targeted TE on this team. I don't think Ian Thomas will pass him on the depth chart. Chubba Hubbard - I think behind this line he is going to be dangerous. He is very good when he gets to the second level. I would not be surprised to CMC in the slot with Hubbard as RB. That will make things very difficult for defense.. Some think he was a wasted pick. I think the trio in the backfield group is going to be one of our stronger offensive groups. D. Nixon - With a year under his belt I think he'll be much better in 2022. I think if he can hold his own on the interior D-line our defensive line won't be too bad. We've always had DTs that are rotational. K. Taylor - He'll see playing time IMO is good depth and situational appearances. Our DB backfield is pretty loaded by Taylor should contribute when called upon. D. Brown - At the end of 2021 I wanted to see more of him and let him show what he can do. Fitterer did a good job to solidify our offensive line I am not sure he'll start. However, with any O-line group depth is a huge necessity. He may contend for the guard job with BC. I look forward to seeing him battle for a starting guard spot. I would not be surprised to see him beat out BC and BC becomes a swing tackle. S. Smith - He's currently #4 on the depth chart. I think he has amazing hands and made a couple of really nice plays for us last year. I think he'll contribute more in 2022. Maybe he'll have a connection with Corral and be solid depth. T. Fletcher - kind of a wasted pick but may hang on to take JJ spot after 2022. P. Hoskins - had sporadic success last year but with the loss of Fox hopeful he fights for that spot. At minimum, he will be rotational depth. Thoughts

Matt Corral vs the Old GOAT
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Panthers Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
Starting Sam only puts us another year behind. Corral more than likely will have rookie mistakes. Most NFL rookie QBs do. Starting Sam only puts the rookie in the lineup 2023. Might as well let him learn this year. He should have a decent line to protect him and won't be running for is life like last year's QBs. As stated he has some great weapons and will not have to be the savior. Just learn the offense and take what the Defense gives you. -
West coast offense on the East coast
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Talent wise Darnold and Corral are probably pretty close. What separates them is Corral is a better processor and has a quicker trigger. -

DaveThePanther2008 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
McAdoo will, IMO, install his offense and expect Darnold to execute it. If he can't than Corral should be given the opportunity to do it. I do not see us using an offense just so Darnold can start. The offense, as I understand it, is a run first offense and should take a lot of pressure off the QB. If Darnold can execute it there really isn't a decision to make. Corral is the man.- 24 replies

Could Jimmy G still be on the table?
DaveThePanther2008 replied to FuFuLamePoo's topic in Carolina Panthers
The only way we get Jimmy G or Baker is if they are released. We are not going to pay big bucks for a rent-a-QB. Doesn't make sense. -
Matt Corral vs the Old GOAT
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Panthers Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
Corral was rated as one of the top 3 QBs in this class. He fell to us and we, IMO, made a smart move to get him. I get the coincidental comparison of Montana and Corral. I want you all to reflect on last season. Before I say any more, I have never been a person to diagnose a game like some of you do. That said, I can recall many games where a WR was wide the F**K open and Darnold missed him or threw it late. Corral has that quick release and can read the field well. I honestly don't think we'll see him pull a Darnold and will see those open receivers and make those plays. I did watch quite a few of Corral's games on Youtube and one thing that stood out was if he is in a clean pocket he will make a good accurate throw. His O-line wasn't the greatest so those times were not very often but when he had them. He was deadly. I joked the other day about him being OROY but if he is given a chance to start from day 1 I would not be surprised to see him in the running. We definitely have the weapons to make it easy for him. -
The TE room doesn't have a Greg Olsen type player. Thomas was not signed for his pass catching ability though he has the ability. He was signed because he's a blocking type TE and will be big for us in the run game. Tremble is a great blocker and IMO a better pass catcher than Thomas and has a huge upside and I expect him to really shine this year. TE's on this team are going to have to be good blockers. If Babicz plans on making this team he is going to have to show he can block first. If he shows growth during OTAs, minicamps and training camp he'll probably be on the practice squad.

Besides the draft capital it would cost us. The annual salary we would have had to pay for Watson and a vet LT we would have put us in a situation where we would not have been able to keep some of our players and sign any decent free agents. While Icky and Corral are basic unknowns I believe we got what we wanted from this draft and will watch Cleveland struggle to keep talented players around Watson.

How can you not want a mauler like Icky who's only goal is to get better. He may not be the best pass protector but I do believe after Campen gets ahold of him. He's going to be better than he was in college. Good or Bad year for Corral I think we have found our QB of the future. He's a leader and players are ready to go to battle with him. I don't know if I can say the same thing about Sam. I was on the Howell train pretty hard but I think after watching a lot of Corral videos I believe he is the real deal.

I don't see it happening. If Rhule flames out, Tepper is not going to want to have another rookie head coach running the team. McAdoo would most likely take over. Two reasons. 1. He has experience as a head coach 2 and most importantly he was probably the #1 reason why we drafted Corral. We would not have to worry about him going someplace else. This is my biggest worry with McAdoo. He'll get us going in the right direction and we'll lose him to some team that is drafting a rookie QB. If Rhule was fired I would hope that the team retains Snow as he seems to be a really good DC.

Chances Matt Corral starts Week 1
DaveThePanther2008 replied to ENCPantherfan2's topic in Carolina Panthers
I voted 50-75%. I truly believe he is going to really shine in preseason. That said Sam is going to have to lose the job. He's the #1 QB going into camp. If he settles in behind our new offensive line he could hold off Matt. I love Corral's fire. He seems to have more of a fire to him than Sam. Players seem to gravitate to him. He's a good leader and that may be his trump card. -
Matt Corral is here because of Ben McAdoo
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I went on YouTube and watched several games from last season and can see the reasons why McAdoo likes him. His quick release was on display. He made some really nice throws and had many good passes dropped. What I really like was you could see he is a baller and was highly respected by his teammates for his toughness. He made some mistakes but overall was a good QB. Other than the Alabama game where his O-line was extremely overmatched he played well. Also his fakes are very good and reminded me of Brees and his fakes. He uses the check down well and will be much better with it when he knows CMC is that check down. What I think he needs work on is pinpointing his deep throws a little better, but he has the arm for it. Also I would like to see him put some touch on some of his throws. These are traits McAdoo will be able to fix. I believe with good coaching and experience he will be a long time QB for us. I'm excited.
