Not mention if Hurst, who will be 30 years old running around out there, is injured we have to rely on Ian Thomas for our rookie.
-
You're talking about Hurst in his prime being seen as Mayers, but Hurst is past his prime.
-
It is not highly unlikely that we can draft a TE better than Hurst. I don't know where you are getting that.
-
i would be happy to spend a high big on a better TE than Hurst to have more separation for our rookie. We simply disagree on priorities. You're thinking defense, I'm thinking explosive passing weapons better than what we have now. We'll see how it pans out. Fair to disagree.
-
It's not about big time production, but rather helping our rookie have a great big target to find. That works wonders for confidence and development. So important. We're not headed to the SB this upcoming season, or lighting the league on fire, but our QB development is critical.

I want to upgrade from Hurst in this draft if a better option is available. I see that as important for the reason I gave in the other post. Be careful thinking of our WRs as studs because that could be a bit of echo chamber thinking. The Huddle's response is that our WRs our these awesome studs, but other fan bases are not impressed.

The only way we could get a #1 WR in the draft would be a trade up which is possible, but unlikely. TE is I see as a need and it's a great target for a rookie QB. Tall, fast, elite prospect getting open and making life easier on CJ or Young. Perfect.

#1 WR. #1 TE. Edge rusher. CB for depth. Basically you don't start a season without a #1 TE and #1 WR and expect to do well on offense. We'll struggle until you get that fixed even if the rookie QB plays fairly well. It's not optional if you want to win. This is a passing league.

Just looking at this draft it's full of #2 caliber TEs like I don't think I've ever seen before, and a few #1s as well, but then the Fitt signs what amounts to a #2 TE. Fitt drives crazy sometimes, but I understand he wants a veteran presence. There are some strong things about this draft, but WR is looking so weak. Yikes. Tons of little slot receivers. I'm not going to go over each position, but I will say QB looks strong. And I have been saying that 2023 was going to be the year we get our 1st round QB for while now, and it's finally happening. I'll do a no trade mock draft in the future.
-
Yeah I've looked at more prospects this time around than ever before. In the past I've been able to call a couple of first round picks that were long shots, but overall after the first round I have the worst ability in predicting our picks. The Panthers almost never pick who I want in rounds 2-7. Sometimes it feels like they're messing with me. I remember the YGM pick and just thinking about how I never would have guessed him. Doing a lot of mocks and looking at a lot of prospects really helps me to enjoy the draft a lot more. I don't like seeing a bunch of names popping up as picks and having no idea who they are or why they were taken. We're closing in on the final mock that I will do leading up to the draft and I will title it as such. And you can bet that whoever I pick in round 2-7 will NOT be the players the Panthers pick. Other teams will take them.

Young is maxed out. He's playing as well as he can play mentally, but you can see he is limited physically. His arm is just not elite, and he's never going to be that dominant QB. He'll run the offense and make good decisions, but there are going to be times when he can't see his throwing lanes and targets. Teams can scheme to exploit his physical limitations. Yes he is highly intelligent and gifted instinctively, but do we really want to run a spread type offense and hope he turns into Drew Brees? Risky. CJ has a cannon, and he can easily see over the line. And he can drop dimes all over the field, period. He has not maxed out his potential. There is room form him to grow, and if he steps his game up to the next level, then you have a dominant QB. A guy who can win the SB. On the other hand, if he doesn't really take it to the next level, I think you can still have a guy who something Geno Smith maybe. Not the end of the world. I want CJ because his arm is better, and it's up to the coaches to to make something happen with him. The raw talent is there, and we have the coaching staff in place, so I'd take CJ. If CJ poops the then it was all his fault for not caring and giving it his all. The talent is there.

I was saying find a #1WR in free agency, and the mother of all draft decisions is the QB we take.
-
With the players we have now?
-
But yes I am excited too.
-
He is a nice little chess piece to move around the board and keep the chains moving here and there, but we are facing monstrously athletic WRs and we don't have a counter punch for that yet. Fitt get moving.
-
Is anyone else scared Fitt gave him way too much?
-
Well let's see, he probably runs a 4.8 40 at this point, 6'1, 190, and he was never that fast. He is a guy who is valuable because he can run routes with extreme precision, and he is sneaky at finding open spots in a zone. Basically he's a craft vet and nothing like DJ Moore. More like a Julian Edleman is what comes to mind.
-
Thielen's best years are obviously behind him. We need a #1 WR pronto.
