  1. The Eagles allowing any accurate information about which player they're planning to draft to float around the world would be idiotic. Rule number one of the draft is don't let other teams know who you plan on drafting. That's why this information is bullsh!t. If all the top four QB picks are gone then Rhule has to lay in the bed he made. He wanted Teddy. He wanted to beat Washington. He got it, and now he gets what goes along with that. Those choices had consequences, and now it's time to see what happens. The odds of Trey Lance making it to us are pretty decent. If he doesn't, then we have a possible chance to trade down for more picks, or take a really great prospect who was passed over due to the run on QBs. We might have to role with Rhule's TB at QB again next season. That's life. Teams make mistakes, and the fans have to endure it.
  2. Rhule has 6 more seasons to produce a winning team. That is the ultimate schedule for this team. Rhule inexplicably ruined his first season by bringing in Teddy, which in turn ruined our draft position. The only point of the first season should have been to clear dead cap, allow the younger players to gain experience, and lose enough to draft our future QB with confidence. Swing and a miss. We would be drafting Lawrence had we let Grier start and stayed away from Teddy imo. We're now in QB limbo. We don't have a high enough pick to beat out the Jets for Watson if the Texans trade him (they won't), and the best QB we can hope to draft (barring a trade up) is Trey Lance. Well Trey is a boom or bust risky pick. No idea how he will pan out. This is what I was saying as our Panthers made the mistake. You DO NOT want to be a middle of the pack team with a middle of the pack or lesser QB. It puts your team in 8-8 limbo. You can't draft the best prospects at QB, and you can't move up to become a top tier team because your QB isn't good enough. LIMBO. We are either going to hit on Trey Lance, or we're going to be a limbo team for the remainder of Rhule's contract imo. We will win too many games next season to draft high enough for a top QB, and each subsequent season will push us a bit down the draft board. Then we have to hope for a "magic season" when the roster is so good that it doesn't matter that we have a mediocre QB. That usually doesn't pan out. Welcome to limbo unless Trey Lance becomes a badass, or we pull off a miracle.
  3. Let me know if he does any of that and I'll get excited. I want him here. I'm not trying to dash anyone's hopes. Let's make it happen.
  4. Tepper would run down Mint Street nude screaming for joy if we landed Watson. What would the Texans owner and leadership be doing if they lost him? There would be firings. It's not happening.
  5. It makes sense for Watson to want to leave. It doesn't make sense for the Texans to allow him to leave via a trade. That's all the sense that matters.
  6. My hope lies in out new GM. I am just hoping that he knows how to land an amazing QB. It's our only hope.
  7. This isn't after the fact. This isn't poop happens. I said at the time what we needed to do, not after the fact. The decision was idiotic at the time. Live on this forum. In the moment it was stupid.
  8. I seriously doubt the Texans are going to trade Watson. If they did it would be to a team that outsmarted us in the trade deal, but don't worry they won't trade him at all. It would make no sense.
  9. Tepper doesn't have the ability to evaluate QBs, but neither does or current staff. So it's like the blind leading the blind. Our only hope is that our new GM can find an elite QB given our awful situation. The Panthers leadership put us here, and now they have to panic to dig us out. Throwing three 1st round picks at any team for a QB is pure panic mode, and it didn't have to be this way.
  10. If you look at the last 20 SB winners it's pretty clear you need one of the top QBs in the NFL if you want trophies. Signing Teddy was a mistake as it both tied us financially to a second rate QB, but it also prevented us from losing enough games to pick Lawrence. The problem is that our incompetent leadership didn't realize they were making a mistake until now. Well now we've lost the money, and lost out on Lawrence, and our owner is probably angry. I've followed the Panthers since their inception, and I can say without any hesitation that we've always had incompetent leadership from the top down. We make obvious mistakes and then panic after the fact. Any idiot with common sense knew that TB would never lead this team to a SB win, and singing him to a 3 year deal was foolish. Signing him at all was foolish when we had Grier, who would have led us to Lawrence. But you can go back in Panthers history and see the terrible mistakes, and the price we have payed is zero SB wins, and mostly mediocre teams. No sustained success. The new leadership failed right out of the gate by making foolish decisions, and what is worse is that we're tied to Rhule with a 7 year mega contract. We gave an unproven coach (at the NFL level) a mega deal, and he thought Teddy was the answer. Idiotic. Now we're stuck. Typical Panthers situation, except Tepper is angrier than JR who just wanted female employees in tight jeans. So stupid.
  11. Moton is an enormous man playing an extremely violent game, and he's no spring chicken. Tagging Moton is what I would do rather than signing him to a long term deal. I just don't think his body is going to hold up in the long run. His back, legs, something is going to go at some point. I like the Tag.
  12. Spending every pick on defense prevented the 2020 defense from being rock bottom. If you disagree I don't know what to tell you.
  13. The Panthers were 31st in team spending on defense. The defensive performance for 2020 was offset by all the new draft picks, so we moved closer to the middle of the pack stats wise. The Panthers defense did what one would expect given the roster, or you could argue they did a little better. Unfortunately 2020 was not a season of surprises as the Panthers team as a whole did almost exactly what we were expecting given the roster. We didn't overachieve, and we didn't underachieve. We hit the target for what most were anticipating, which was a losing season near the bottom on the league, but not rock bottom. I said that going into the season. We did just that. My point is that our talent level on the roster is what really matters. Grandpa Snow is not going to take a roster like we had in 2020 and coach them into a top defense. No chance of that. Moving forward we should improve on stats on defense due to last season's rookie wave improving, and new picks and better free agents rolling into town.
  14. When you have Tom Brady and a loaded roster good things are going to happen. When you have Teddy and a poop roster bad things are going to happen. If TB can maintain that roster and Brady doesn't hit the wall, then they could repeat as SB champions. We're looking at multiple seasons of a slow rebuilding process that might not pan out. Brady having two #1 WRs and a stonewall o-line was just crazy, and that defense was first rate even with a key injury to the d-line. We have a lot of work to do just to climb out of the dumps and try to find a QB. Congratulations to the Bucs for making all the right decisions.
  15. Tepper. But rest assured Fitterer is hearing from Rhule and the other coaches. Fitterer doesn't technically have to obey Rhule, the OC, or the DC, but I've seen these positions talk to the GM and influence him greatly.
  16. Hearing about this deal had restored my faith in Fitterer. He needs to stay on a smart path and an opportunity for a QB will reveal itself. Don't give away the farm. We're going to have an opportunity at the 8th pick, so hold and wait unless we have a fair deal. Don't get stupid with everything on the line. Calm down. Wait.
  17. If I had to guess, I would say Rhule is in Fitterer's ear daily squawking about finding a franchise QB. Rhule is probably in a panic because he knows now that he shouldn't have hitched his wagon to Teddy. Now Fitterer is under the gun and feeling Rhule's stress. The thing is that Fitterer needs to be smart and make the correct decisions no matter Rhule's worried squawking. Rhule has told previous coaches "this may be your last day with us" when he becomes emotionally upset, but Fitterer needs to relax and be smart. Under no circumstances should we trade away the future for a QB like Wilson who is physically unimpressive. We need to stay put and limit our risk to an 8th round pick only.
  18. We could have played this correctly and had a top 3 pick, but Rhule wanted Teddy. Now he doesn't want Teddy. Welp there is a price to pay for making mistakes, and that price is potentially QB limbo. Now the new GM has to solve Rhule's blunder. How to find a better QB than Teddy without giving away a kings ransom and hamstringing the team for multiple seasons? If I'm Fitterer, then I'll stay put and wait for Trey Lance to fall into our lap. Yes Trey is risky, but he has a cannon arm and can run like a beast. We need to take a risk now because of Rhule, so the risky plan goes into place. Rhule made his blunder, the donkey is out of the barn, and now comes risk to save the team from mediocrity. I think Fitterer will wait for Trey at 8th, and that is the right move. We only risk the 8th pick, and the reward is a potential franchise QB. Good move if he plays his cards right.
  19. Oh ok I thought we were offering 2 first rounders. That wasn't too bad.
  20. Even when Smith was at the end of his rookie contract and wanting a new big payday he caught wind of someone involved in the contract negotiations calling him an "unproven" WR. He was furious about this comment and went on a rant. Many sports media talking heads acknowledged that Smith was a good WR, but doubted if he was worth top dollar at the time. I am sure Cully had no idea what danger he was in by dismissing Smith as belonging with the special teams unit. Smith gave Ken Lucas a terrible beating for unclear reasons during a lull practice, so anyone could become a target and it didn't much to set Smith off.
