We don't have a clear picture on which positions will be premium, which middle of the road, and which scrubs. We don't know Rhule's/Fittere's blueprint, so we can't anticipate what we'll will do in the draft and FA. I do know some thing about Fitterer and Rhule. They both love fast roster churning at the bottom. So our scrubs will likely be pushed hard to overachieve, and when they don't they be sent packing quickly for the next scrub. Churning the hell out of the bottom of the roster is way of trying to find overachieving gems asap. The drawback is that the burden is placed on the coaches to always be dealing with inexperienced new guys, and more so than the typical NFL team. We also know that Rhule loves balance, so he wants to be able to run and pass very well. He places a premium on being able to run in cold weather late in the season and during playoffs. In the past things were simple. We knew our scrub position on defense were the safeties. We had a system that didn't require the safeties to be high quality. Now we really don't know what is going on yet. The defense is still up in the air, so who knows what we're going to do in the future.

In order of somewhat realistic: Lance Sewell Pitts All gone then trade down.

What are the numbers that will make you believe??

Oh no I just think if he fails with Darnold the odds go up that he won't receive a new contract at the end of his current contract. -

We would have to do better than what our roster should do. I would say that after adding our high draft picks our roster should be good enough to go 8-8ish. If Darnold leads us to an 8-8ish record, then we know he doesn't elevate the roster. If he doesn't elevate the roster, then that means we'd have to build a mega-roster for one magic season to try for a one shot at the SB. One chance after years of building, and then a slow decent and an eventual cutting of Darnold. The one magic season plan is for losers. If we try that then Rhule will not receive a new contract imo. If Darnold can produce 10 wins or more, then we have a QB who can elevate the roster. That means that whatever team we put together, that team will overachieve beyond their talent level due to Darnold. In that case he's a keeper. So we'll know by the end of the season assuming the injury bug doesn't destroy us. If we go 8-8, then Rhule is on his way out, and Darnold is toast. -
The CB talent extends into the 2nd round, and then dries up with a bunch of guys who are undersized. It think we might take a CB in the 2nd, but I'd rather go o-line with the first two picks if the value is there.
-
We're in a terrific position to build up our o-line with this draft. Our first pick could reasonably be the best LT in the draft, and our second pick could be the best OG prospect in Alijah Vera-Tucker. Building a great o-line will help us to properly evaluate Darnold, and he won't have the excuse of the o-line not protecting him. Protect Darnold and if dump him if he poops the bed this coming season.

Sewell would be a huge win for us. Might take the sting of not really having a top quality QB on the roster.

Teams looking to trade up for quarterbacks
pantherj replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
If Penei is gone then I'd like to trade down. Even after trading down a few spots there will still be several very good OT prospects. I think Slater will fall out of the top 10. It's just too tempting to get that extra pick with the amount of talent in this draft and our laundry list of needs. -
Well he would have to progress to being a good QB first, but yes in their narrative our system and superior coaching will transform him into a SB winning franchise QB. Otherwise there is no good reason to bring him here and lose a 2nd, 4th, and 6th. For what? A backup? A one season and dump wing and a prayer? No. They're thinking Super Bowl winning QB in our system with our coaching. And what happens when Brady leaves? They think they'll find another talented OC with a superior system. This is generally not how the NFL works. A QB who is bad for three seasons, has a weird hitch in his throw, and tosses interceptions like the t-shirt cannon guy is not going to (generally speaking) transform into Mr. Franchise Super Bowl winner. Can it happen? Yes. Is it likely? No. I'd like a crack at Kate Upton, but let's be realistic. It's not happening unless I win the lottery.

The thing about Teddy was I think he partly wasn't willing to take as many hits trying to go deep. The other factor was he wasn't that great at going deep. Then take away CMC, and you've got a mess.
-
He clearly didn't run the system properly.

Rhule is the type of head coach who will tell another coach over the headset "this might be your last game with us" when that position group isn't doing well during a game. I think he's an incredibly high energy workaholic guy who wants everyone going above and beyond their job description. And he's not the "awe shucks I love all of our players" type of coach. I think he's as hard as he can be on his coaches, like "be here at 5am with the rest of us" is probably coming out of his mouth. And with the players is all sunshine and roses in the press, but behind closed doors it's cut and dry.
-
What's happening is that Rhule has supreme confidence in his OC and his system. I think he thinks that his system can make a journeyman into a SB winner. That didn't work with Teddy, but I think the reasoning inside the organization was that Teddy was going rogue and doing his own thing at times (passes nowhere near the first down marker, holding the ball out at the goal line, ect). The new narrative is that Darnold will listen and do as he's told, and then our amazing offensive system will turn him into Joe Montana.
-
Yeah I think Teddy will end up with the Saints again after we cut him. When Teddy is on a loaded team with brilliant coaches he can come off the bench and really do well. I think he'll wrap up his career as a top quality backup. Speaking up backup quality QBs, Darnold should be facing the same situation soon enough as well.
-
I judge GMs over the long run by wins. Early on we didn't get the QB we wanted in free agency, so that's a big loss, and we acquired a QB no other team wanted to trade for. We also signed some backups and lost Samuel. If that is making you think our GM is really good then the bar pretty low. If you think he's just competent then that isn't much to post about.

Do you have the links about the Panthers not liking Lance and Fields?

Sounds like Teddy will be Traded

I think we might draft Trey Lance. -

I think we have to take a look at Trey Lance (the most likely to fall of the big 4) if he's there at 8. We can draft Trey and let Darnold sail the ship in 2021. -

Darnold can certainly rack up losses and interceptions, but he was in a bad situation overall. I don't know what the hell Fitterer is thinking, but that usually means the coaches and staff will be gone in a couple of years. -

I see a pattern of the Panthers just quickly cycling through experienced QB who didn't pan out until we hit on someone. Darnold will have a short leash imo, and if he doesn't produce a winning season in 2021 then he needs to be mentally prepared to be the scapegoat. We'll put the losses on him and send him wandering off into free agency. Rhule is an odd dude. -
No disagreement there.

Guys let's please try not to pin our hopes on what Jets fans think. It's cringe worthy.
