Chris Simms “no way the panthers draft Lance at 8”
pantherj replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
If you look at Lance and watch him move and throw you can clearly see that he is a superior athlete. He has a rare combination of arm strength, speed, and power. The problem is that it's impossible to properly evaluate him given the plays he ran, the level of competition, and the few number of passes he attempted. You have to take a bit of a leap of faith with Lance, but the athletic gifts are clearly there. -
Oh make no mistake I am not trying to imply that my interfering would produce better results than the football experts. I'm just saying that I would interfere.

If I were a former hedge fund manager who crushed I don't know how many businesses, then you can bet if buy a football team I'm going to interfere and dictate what I want. If I owned the Panthers then you can rest assured we would have started Grier last season and Teddy would not be on the roster. If I spent billions on buying the Panthers then I'm going to interfere. Hell that's the best part of owning the team.

I lost count. Good omen though.

Start with QB. Then is there an offensive TD scoring freak available? Yes. Second tier is Ja'Marr Chase. Third would be a freak DE. None. 4th - Great LT prospect. Penei Sewell. So when you watch the draft the 4 QBs will be gone before we pick, and so will Chase and Sewell. If that's the case then we're in a bad spot with the 8th pick. The best WR is off the board. There is no freakish DE. The best OT is off the board. Taking a CB at 8 is a dumb move unless he plays like Dion Sanders. So we need to look at Kyle Pitts, Jaylen Waddle, and DeVonta Smith. Take the best prospect of the 3, or trade down. Smart teams don't mind having 2 number one WRs, just look at the SB champion Bucs.

Panthers will "pay any price" for Watson (via Sportsnaut via PFN)

Yeah I doubt our GM or owner would say something like that.... God I hope not. -

Any price = stupid leadership. Thank goodness the Texans won't trade Watson. -
Kiper Mock 2.0: Mac Jones to Panthers at #8.

It depends on who is available, and what if any, are our trade offers. No trade offers, and the top 4 QBs are off the board, and Sewell is gone, and Chase is gone, then I'll take Kyle Pitts.

Incompetent leadership. It's a Panthers tradition.

Hmm what are you up to Panthers?

Roster Holes and The Case For Trading Down/Accumulating Draft Picks
pantherj replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
If no one wants to trade with us, then select Jalen Waddle, and shore up the o-line secondary with the rest of the draft. With CMC, Jalen, DJ, Curtis, and Robby you have enough firepower to turn TB's mid and short passes into explosive plays. We'd be a match up nightmare for opposing DCs, and the improved o-line would see TB's stats soar. Not saying TB is the answer long term, but he's under contract and he might be our best option for next season depending on how the draft shakes out. -
Roster Holes and The Case For Trading Down/Accumulating Draft Picks

The plan should have been to start Grier last season and draft Lawrence or Fields. That idea was never considered, and neither was losing to Washington. Now we're in danger of multi-season QB limbo with no chance of winning a SB. So what should we do from this bad position? If Trey Lance is available at 8, then we have to take him unless our scouts don't think he's worth it. Then it's either hit or miss on Trey. He's boom or bust. If the top 4 QB's come off the board then we will get good trade offers imo. That's because those 4 QB picks will push a highly coveted player into our lap. We could be looking at Jalen Waddle, Kyle Pitts, Micah Parsons, and Patrick Surtain II. Some team is going to want one of those players enough to make us an offer. Our roster is swiss cheese, so trading down is the obvious choice. Once we move down go by bpa at a position of need. Preferably o-line, TE, and secondary. With the o-line rebuilt we become a more attractive team for free agent QBs, and we can better protect a rookie QB if we draft one in 2022. Last season's mistakes have come home to roost. We might have to extend our QB search to 2022 assuming Trey Lance is not seen as a good potential franchise QB. -
The Eagles should give Hurts a chance. They spent a 2nd round pick on him, so for what to be a backup? I don't think so. He looked good last season in the games I saw.
