The Jets have a starting LT injury, and a starting DE season ending injury, and a rookie QB playing his first NFL regular season game. If we lose we're terrible.
-
If Sam is poop then Rhule will be on the hot seat even though he still has like 5 years or so on his contract. You can't whiff on two starting QBs in a row and not feel some heat. Sam has to be a big hit or the pressure will ramp up. I think Rhule is an extremely intelligent person, perfectionist, and has a type A personality. But much like Emperor Palpatine his overconfidence might be his weakness. He's thinking that his brand of football and the right guys on the team can make up for not having a terrific QB. Rhule knew Teddy wasn't a superstar. Rhule knows Darnold isn't the next Tom Brady. He's putting all of his chips on his blueprint and system. He's all in on himself, and he doesn't think we need a star QB. The problem is that many football players are not highly intelligent perfectionists, and when dumber players (Whitehead from last season as an example) blooper up Rhule's plans he's going to lose it. A superstar QB can just take over the game and make other player's mistakes less damaging.

If Rhule chooses cronyism then it will be PJ (Poop J.) If he's going by the better QB, then it's Grier.
-
Preseason games are notoriously boring and hard to watch in their entirety. However, a preseason game can reveal shocking information about a backup. Like hearing that Grier sucks in practice and is going to be cut, and seeing him come out and clearly blow PJ out of the water in terms of play. It was no contest.
-
Is Vinny Testaverde available to be our backup?
-
Yes but we have some newer fans and causal fans who might be curious.
-
Steve Smith - "we've established the Jets don't know what they're doing" Yikes. Fitterer froze with that comment.
-
I have not seen enough of Grier and PJ, but I would bet the Panthers have already made their decision on who is staying (I think it's PJ).
-
hahaha oh I was wondering what went wrong.
-
He made an analogy of going to Costco to get toilet paper to stop some bleeding, and it sounded like he was trying to make it up on the fly and just got lost with it.
-
Pausing too much, needs to get his thoughts out quicker like a pro. Needs a smoother delivery.
-
I'm listening.

I'm not loving Steve Smith's announcing.

When Sam, DJ, and CMC hit the big money part of their contracts next season we're going to have to make some tough decisions.
-
FANTASTIC!
-
Yeah we were the 8th worst team, but remember we lost CMC. Our roster is also better than last season due to maturing younger players and our new draft picks and free agents. We've also upgraded the QB position in the eyes of Fitterer, Rhule, Brady, and our other key staff members. We're also in the cap sweet spot of only having a moderate cap hit for key players like CMC $6.8 million, DJ Moore $3.5 million, and Sam Darnold $4.7 million. That is dirt cheap compared to the insane cap hit they are going to cause next season. Taking into account these factors and a few others I would say we'll have a better record than last season. I don't see us making the playoffs unless Sam goes out there and throws hot fire and burns this league down. 8 wins seems realistic if Sam is average. If Sam is poop then we could do worse than last season. The wait is almost over. Do we have an 8-9 type QB, or a superstar in the making? Almost there.

Kevin Donnelly Said Rhule Was Livid at the Half
pantherj replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't doubt the "zero tolerance" tirade at all. Rhule is said to have told one of his coaches in college something to the effect of "this might be your last day with us" in the middle of a game because his unit wasn't playing well. If you just look at Rhule he's somehow skinny and fat at the same time, skinny/fat, and he's kinda short. How he looks can affect how the players respond to him (respect), so he might just be more likely to be hyperbolic and quick to make threats to ones livelihood. -
I watched all of Trey Lance's snaps against KC. He played poorly for the most part. Teams with rookie QBs this season will have it rough imo.
-
We're in a frustration position as fans because we don't know what we have in Darnold, and now we won't see him today either. What's more is that the rookie QBs are looking very good, but remember preseason games are easier for the QB. The opposing defense is not going to show their best stuff. This all boils down to Rhule and our scouts knowing what they're doing in giving Darnold the keys to the car. I have no idea what our QB is going to do when the season starts. We knew what Teddy would do more or less. Darnold is a complete mystery. Jaycee looked like a great zone CB against the Colts. He has blanket coverage to a point, but they go deep and pull away from him, so you give him a safety over the top and he should have a great time out there. Hell I think Snow likes rushing 3 and dropping the rest into coverage anyway. I wouldn't be shocked to see cover-3 from our Panthers again a lot this season.

Take the players way from their families, gfs, wives, ect, and have them brutalize one another in extreme heat. It's a wonder fights don't break out more often. If anything the fighting is less violent than playing, except it's against the rules. The further we get into the Rhule era, then more I think of him as an intellectual hard working protectionist, but not as much of a terrific leader of millionaire football players. It takes a particular talent to get grown men with F-you money to listen and obey your type-A detailed go the extra mile list of rules, and the throw in the embarrassing DBO sign and I don't know how happy the players are with this coaching staff. But this is still very early and I'm on the outside trying to make something out of scraps, so it's likely I could be way off. Just some speculation.

The closest thing to a must-win game in years?
pantherj replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Our next must win game will either be when we are playing a game that will mathematically eliminate us from the playoffs, or our first playoff game. Until then we won't have a must win game the way I look at it. -
Matt Rhule after 1st Joint Practice with the Colts
pantherj replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was just kidding around about him saying that. I don't think he's morphing into John Fox or anything. I was not making a serious criticism. -

I wonder which receivers were running the wrong depth. I don't think it would be DJ or Robby, but who knows. -
