We will never win the Super Bowl with Cousins. Why would you be ok with that? -

Rhule is crapping his pants in fear that he's going to get fired, so he's going to trade our future away to get to .500. Fire him now Tepper. -

I have not once said this on this site until now. Fire Rhule immediately. Promote McAdoodoo. -
I want o-linemen who pass block well and pick up stunts and delayed blitzes well. It's helpful if they can run block as well, but that is not the top criteria. Protecting the QB so we can air it out, especially in the 4th quarter, is priority one. Trading back takes a trade partner willing to make a fair offer. This draft looks weak at the top, so I'm doubting we'll find a trade partner.

Jordan Gross took up what a decade at LT under Hurney? He made a great draft pick in Gross and didn't need to worry about LT for a decade. To compare, moron Gettleman paid a kings ransom for LT Matt Kalil who couldn't even play the position. But yes overall the Panthers have been RB and LBer crazy, and our blueprint makes no sense whatsoever for a modern football team.

Watson doesn't want to come here and has a no trade clause that he can use to avoid us. It's over. What's worse is that Watson is considering going to the Bucs assuming Brady stays retired. Trading DJ is certainly a good idea assuming he is worth a 1st round pick. You don't want to lose a proven #1 WR for a second or third round pick. Not good enough. But the timing for dumping him makes sense as he'll be useless next season with Sam, or some other washed up vet throwing the ball. Better to have a 1st round draft pick and plan for the future than give a win now WR a huge payday.

When teams run the ball on your defense at will, then you need to do some rebuilding. When you don't have a functioning offense and don't expect to have one any time soon, then you need to look to trade older defenders for draft picks, or let them go into free agency for their big payday contract. We need a GM who thinks this way if that is not Fitt's plan. Some defenders are generational talents, or perfect fits who would be extremely difficult to replace. Our defense doesn't have anyone like that who is looking for a mega-payday at this time. This may sound strange, but we need to get younger on defense imo. The plan shouldn't be to win now as we don't have a functioning offense. Keep the defense young for now, and use the trade draft picks, and compensation draft picks, to build the kind of o-line that any QB would love to play behind. Then hot free agent QBs will see a stone wall o-line and start answering calls from Fitt and not sending him straight to voicemail. This also puts us in a great position to draft a rookie and put him in behind a brick wall of protection. Once we've landed a QB, and the QB has had season to mature in the system, our younger defenders will be coming into their own and wanting their payday contracts. THEN you pay them to make a Super Bowl run. You don't pay defenders who want contracts NOW. That is idiotic.

Riot: Panthers to take a major swing at QB?

It will be a dark day for the Panthers and the massage parlors of Tampa if the Bucs land Watson. -
Breer: Panthers "between a rock and a hard place" at quarterback
pantherj replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
For some historical perspective for brand new Panthers fans, we've been in this position in the past. We were in QB limbo with a guy named Matt Moore. He was mediocre at best, but we didn't have a 1st round pick in the following draft. We used our second round pick on QB Jimmy Clausen. As a rule I would never draft a QB who falls to the second round, but we took a shot. Jimmy turned out to be one of the worst QBs of all time. It was a total nightmare, but that is a GOOD thing. Getting destroyed that season allowed us to take the top rated QB in the draft, Cam Newton. Cam instantly ended QB limbo, brought fans back to BOA, and gave us a shot at winning the SB. I WANT Sam out there stinking it up. I want this upcoming season to go into the toilet. I DON'T want 6 or 7 wins. Veteran QBs are at their ceiling when the arrive. If they win you 7 games, then you can expect about 7 wins the following seasons as well. They're topped out, and they're getting older and weaker each passing season. We MUST escape QB limbo at any cost. -
Breer: Panthers "between a rock and a hard place" at quarterback

Veteran QBs help maintain QB limbo. A washed up veteran QB (the only type that would come here) can lead us to around 7ish wins. That is not a good thing. That means we will not be high enough to select the QB who is the highest rated prospect in the draft, and maybe not even the second or third rated QB. That is the worst thing this franchise can do at this point. Dropping too far in the 2023 draft insures QB limbo until at least the 2024 draft. Teams in QB limbo are in a totally hopeless situation. The key is to break out of QB limbo, but it's a painful short term process. You start Sam all season, and see how the dice fall. If Sam remains terrible, then we may escape QB limbo by drafting one the top rated QB prospects. If Sam plays well, then why not stick with him because he would clearly be demonstrating improvement. Either way you have hope for the future. It only takes on season to escape QB limbo, but you have to make the right choices to get out. Otherwise it never ends. We could go a decade easily just bringing in one washed up vet QB after another and never see a playoff appearance. -
Outliers like Dilfer and Flacco don't mean you try to reproduce their team blueprints. Why would any team build up the defense and try to win with a game manager when that rarely ever works, at least look at the last 20 seasons. Rhule isn't aiming for a SB team, he's aiming for a middle of the pack team that has great talent on defense and a game manager on offense. That can get you to 8-9ish. We need a HC who is focused on building a SB winning team.

We're at the point in the NFL where you can look at the roster and tell who is going to make the playoffs and have a shot at the SB. Just look at the QBs. Simple. Our QB is Sam Darnold btw. RBs are not that important, and neither are LBs for the that matter. The Panthers are stuck in the past trying to build a defense out of 1st and second round picks. They're all over the damn field and they don't matter. You have a great QB or you don't.

The NFL is all about who you have a QB. The Bucs were terrible and they brought in Brady and immediately won the SB. Without Brady next season the Bucs will return to poop. Culture doesn't pass the football out on the field. All teams are working long hours and busting their asses to win because massive sums of money are on the line. Having first and second rounders running around all over on defense doesn't mean anything unless you have a great QB. John Fox football is dead. Collecting 1st round LBs is something the Huddle loves, but it's idiotic. Drafting a top 10 pick RB is outrageously stupid. The defense first blue collar mentality comes from the Steelers and it worked well in the 90's especially. Unfortunately many Panthers fans became addicted to that type of blueprint, small ball tough defense. Rhule is the same way. He wants to run the ball more and more, and bring in one game managing QB after another. Pickett is another game manager, and Rhule will say we're nit running it enough once Pickett racks up L's here. You want to build your team like the Rams, Bengals, Chiefs, Cowboys, ect. High flying offense with a great QB. What should be the plan. O-line this draft. Star Sam, lose any meaningless games at the end of the season by putting in PJ, and go into the 2023 draft with the top pick, or near top pick to snag a great QB prospect. If we take Pickett, then Rhule is sticking with Steelers 90's football, run the ball, play tough defense, punt a lot, and don't turn the ball over with risky passes. That means 5 or 6 wins against teams that are aiming for the top pick in the draft.
-
So you're not committed to bringing him here, and you're saying he's not terrible. Well no kidding? Not saying much.
-
Sending Pickett out to take on gun slinging superstars who keep the ball rocketing down field especially in the 4th quarter is insane. Imagine Mahomes vrs Pickett? lol. The top dog QBs are a new breed that can dominate any defense. That's not Pickett obviously. Pickett will be the game manager who needs others to make the big plays, so no SB will Pickett. Your QB has to be your best player on the team. He has to be your superstar. Pickett is not a bad QB, but so what? Do you want to win the SB, or stay in the bottom half of the league for several more seasons? Go o-line at 6, and look for a rockstar QB in 2023.
-
To take Pickett at 6 you need to believe he can win the SB here. You don't check down your way to the SB. You have to have elite talent and a big arm to win the SB. Pickett has neither of those things, so why do so many Huddlers want him? Who knows? Being impatient and willing to settle for anyone is not the way to go.

Kenny Picket is Teddy Bridgewater 2.0. We already had Teddy and saw where that went. If Rhule takes Picket then we replay the Teddy season, and then Rhule is fired.
-
Keep in mind I have not seen the entire game yet. I started it over.
-
I'm not really learning anything about these QBs from this game. I've learned they can check down, and they don't want to get hurt in this game.
-
Willis was under duress more.
-
Just watching Pickett play like Teddy Bridgewater atm.

Wilis is showing he can scramble and elude a pass rush so far early in the 1st.
