Hope so. Sounded like LS was cleared last week. And the others have been at practice. Fingers crossed

First injury report should come out today

REPORT: Panthers host former Steelers DT Chris Wormley
Smithers replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
High performer with high pff grades. Tore his ACL late last season, which is likely the only reason he isn’t signed yet. Could be a huge addition once he’s able to take the field. -
The Athletic: Insight to Brian Burns Contract
Smithers replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
For 23M, he better get 15 sacks and not get taken out of the game on run plays by tight ends.- 143 replies

Leave your emotions at the door about Burns... it's a BUSINESS
Smithers replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
He was way overpaid, and the contract structure was atrocious. Handicapped us for years. -

Agreed. I referenced Charles Johnson in another thread as well. We simply cannot make that same mistake twice. -

He doesn’t have us by the balls. He’s under a 5th year option. Holding out means he loses millions and still doesn’t accrue a season. Then back to the same spot he’s in right now. We have a first year head coach and rookie QB. I don’t think anyone believes this is a SB or bust team. It’s not like Burns is the difference between a ring or a losing season. Don’t overpay and handicap us for the next few years. We have more holes to fill and no first rounder next year. Let him hold out. Let him lose millions. Let the league forget about him by this time next year. Or…he can agree to a deal that pays him in the top 8-10 for his position, which matches his performance.- 47 replies

And he whiffed miserably on most of those. Elite players turn QB pressures into sacks. Burns doesn’t do that. The fact that his QB pressures are so high and career sacks so low compared to the elite pass rushers is because Burns cannot finish plays. Bottom line.
-
50K per day fine and likely forfeits most of his pay per the CBA. Differs slightly per contract, but there’s likely language in there, especially being a rookie deal. After so many games (I think 8), the season no longer accrues and it’s as if the contract year never happened. So he’d be back where he started, with nothing earned and millions lost in fines.
-
At this point let the guy hold out. Fine him 50K per day per the CBA, he will owe use a couple million in fines, not earn any of his 2023 salary, lose an accrued season, and be back where he started next year, still owing us a season under his rookie deal. Ask LeVeon Bell how such a move works out?

Haha I just told him he’s cherry picking also. Career stats show Burns simply isn’t in the same world as top tier guys. He’s a 15M/year guy right now. He’s gotta get better against the run, and consistently show that he can finish plays.
-
Isn’t that cherry picking? Need to be looking at career stats if we are going to talk about paying him TJ Watt and Joey Bosa money.
-
First off he’s 11th in sacks over the last 4 years (since entering the league), and played more games than 7 of the 10 ahead of him.
-
He made up those numbers. The last 4 years, Burns is #11 on the sack list, not 8. Not to mention he’s played in more games than 7 of the 10 guys in front of him, yet is still trailing them. His current 5th year option of 16M is good enough for top 10. In reality, he’s being paid this year about what he’s worth. Yeah that dude wants Bosa type money lol
-
lol these numbers aren’t even close to correct.
-
Carolina Dunlap, Anthony Barr?
-
The observer reported not long ago he was seeking 25M a year with 50M+ guaranteed.
-
Joey Bosa. You know, Nicks brother.
-
And I’m fine with that. But don’t do a media parade all off-season about awesome of a man and teammate you are by not holding out…only to stop practicing the week before our first game. That’s what irritates me the most. If you want to stand your ground, handle it the way Bosa and Jones are handling it.
-
Got it. Let’s make the same mistake we made with Charles Johnson. You can’t overpay players out of sheer desperation. Yes, we are better with him. No, we shouldn’t pay him like Joey Bosa or TJ Watt.
-
I love Burns. I want Burns to sign for the next 10 years. We are better with him. I never once said I didn’t like him or that he didn’t make us better. What I did say, is that he isn’t a top 8 player at his position. And that’s a fact. I can like a player and acknowledge he isn’t the best player in the world at his position at the same time.
-
I’m not bitching about it. Burns is the one bitching. I’m simply stating a fact backed by plenty of statistics that he isn’t top 8 at his position in the NFL.
