Bryce could be a future cautionary tale...
MRenshaw replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
You're giving the Texans too much credit. Despite their alleged wizardry, they had managed only 7 wins in two seasons before Stroud showed up to lead the worst-rated receiving corps heading into the 2023 season. Stroud is the biggest and the most crucial part of their successful 2023 campaign, because QB is by far the most important position on a team and Stroud turned out to be dawg. By the same token, Bryce is the biggest reason why we sucked last year and continue to fall apart this year. He is the reason for our O-line woes and underperforming receivers last season. If the Texans had ended up with Bryce, they would have likely lost ALL of their games last year, and if we had ended up with Stroud, there is no doubt we would have at least made a serious run for the playoffs, given how weak our division was, and Reich would have certainly kept his job. This is the difference between a QB who has proven to elevate those around him and a QB who has proven to be a liability and an albatross around the necks of his teammates. -

Sure, they added Shultz, a decent player. Still, the PFF rated their receivers as the worst in the league going into the season. -

Both Nico Collins and Tank Dell were third round draft picks. Dell was a rookie last year, and Nico had never had more than 500 receiving yards until last season. Stroud was the key to unlocking these otherwise unremarkable players. Stroud elevated them to stardom with his superior processing, quick decision making, accuracy, excellent ball placement, and veteran-like anticipation, all the traits which Bryce ironically was highly touted for. -
Basically a shorter Johnny Manziel without the arm talent but who takes the effort to memorize the playbook.

It's nice that you brought up the Texans because it was a team in a worse situation than ours. Despite the Texans having the worst receiving corps going into the 2023 season, Stroud was able to elevate the offense and make chicken salad out of chicken poo. This is what a high draft pick at QB should be able and is expected to do, instead of being coddled and protected with all kinds of excuses. -

Unplug this stupid bot! -
Yep, plenty of smoke being blown up Alabama's ass. The tongue bathing from the pundits was embarrassing.

PREACH, my brother! PREACH!

He was never considered an elite pocket passer. Never. I don't know where or how you got that ridiculous idea from. Bryce was touted as a football supercomputer and an exciting out-of-pocket improviser who possessed superior arm elasticity and excelled at making off-the-platform throws.

A high character guy would have thrown at the combine and not put on fake water weight. I understand players are motivated to put themselves in the best light possible, but what he did was gaming the system. Yes, it's the FO's fault for being fooled, but still, it's a stretch to call him high character.

Bryce can't throw like this. A petite, 5'2" actress (Annabella Sciorra) has a better arm than Bryce Young.
-
I thought he had a really high S2 score and was touted as this super brainiac football computer.

What a joke of a channel. I totally agree with these twos comment on the video: "Stop making excuses for Bryce. He didn't take shots downfield because his receivers couldn't separate or the scheme was poor, but because Bryce simply doesn't have the arm strength or talent for throws beyond 20 yards. How do I know that, you ask? Because during his best statistical year at Alabama, Bryce completed only 36.1% of passes longer than 20 yards. That is absolutely atrocious. For comparison, his two predecessors at QB, Tua and Jones, completed 57.1% and 58%, respectively. If Bryce couldn't complete deep passes at Alabama, which enjoys a significant talent advantage over almost every opponent, then he certainly ain't gonna start doing it in the NFL." "Did you see how Bryce failed to pick up simple blitzes three times in the game? I ask because you never mentioned it in your video. How did you miss something so blindingly obvious? Is it because you were trying to gaslight us or because your understanding of football is at middle school level? If latter is the case, please close your channel and stop embarrassing yourself any further."

Nah, my feeling is that Canales already knew Bryce is beyond salvage. He's not gonna waste his saliva and energy on a quarterback who's expected to naturally tank for his replacement.
-
If I recall correctly, three (or two?) of those sacks were due to Bryce failing to make the necessary adjustments to protection in order to pick up blitzes, all because he couldn't read the defense at a level expected of a high school quarterback.

Take a good look, this is essentially our qb.
-
He definitely had a lot of media training in the off season. I can tell because he looked more poised during the post-game press conference. Unlike last year, he didn't fumble for words or pad his sentences with endless strings of um, um, um. I can't tell for sure, he might have also worked on improving his S2 score.

You're just seeing this now? How? Did you not watch his first 16 games?

So you think Bryce is dogsh*t? That's very surprising to hear from one of the most diehard and consistent Bryce supporters. What made you change your mind?
