Best and worst PFF grades from Panthers' Week 9 win over Saints
ncfan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
All the attention is on Bryce because what we gave up for him. But the good teams stay and become good. Is the success on day 2-3 of the draft. And Fitterer’s day 2-3 picks…..hurts the eyes to look at lot of them not even in the league anymore -
Well. for 1. They are handcuffed with a old roster. Theyre 70 mil over the cap for next year. And even if they cut or trade guys, it’s only going to combine for less than a handful of cap saving. So really. They almost have to have guys retire. Yes they have the 3rd pick. And yes, maybe they can get a QB with that pick. But they’re stuck with Carr’s contract. If they cut him. It’s a 60+ mil cap hit. Something they can’t absorb when they are already 70 over. His contract is one of the 2-3 real ones they can restructure to save money and help just get under the cap. If they do, they’re going to be stuck with him longer than the 2 more years they are now. The rest of their roster is old. Including a 34 year old Taysom Hill, who will be a 18 mil cap hit if they cut him thanks to the restructuring over the years.
-
Panthers could end McCarthy in Dallas too in a few weeks.
-
They’ve put themselves in a spot where the QB they swung for. They can’t afford to cut. And about the only way to even get Under the cap next year would be to restructure Carr, which would force their hand to keep them long than another 2 years. They’re almost in the same situation as Cleveland with Watson. But also 70 mil over the cap already too, and don’t have a guy like Miles Garrett who could possibly bail them out with a haul of picks in return from a team
-
Think the massive Carr contract they threw out when they were already so far in debt with the devil was the final nail
-
I’m not so sure about that. Looks like all that Voodoo has caught up with them. They are about 70 mil over the cap next year. And they only have less than a handful of guys they can move that would still only open about 3 mil. They only have 2 guys they can realistically restructure. One of them being Carr, which would handcuff them to him for longer. They’re already on the hook for him through next season or 2 or it’s a 60+ mil cap hit. They’re in a mess, and it seems ownership will retain Loomis. its going to be a few years. That job is about as desirable as ours was this past offseason. And not sure how rich their owner is to overspend like Tepper

Luuvu, unless we Really dropped the bag. I think he would’ve left reguardless. He wasn’t a fan of Evero’s scheme like a lot of other people on here. We traded for a “guy who you knew was on a 1-year deal if re-signing him” as part of offloading Jackson. Who we were going to cut anyways due to his contract. So getting Johnson for Jackson instead of flat cutting Donte still isn’t a bad move at the time. Any GM would’ve done that. Ian Thomas is a head scratcher. He’s survived 3 GMs. But he did sign 2 good starting OGs. And I’d say A’Shawn Robinson is the best FA DL we’ve signed the last 5 years. Also flipped our 7th rd pick into a starting CB. Which washes the moves above. And it’s been awhile since we’ve had a draft that produces more than 2 guys who are making a impact as a rookie.
-
Ickey hasn’t been as bad this season. but I’d make Christensen the number 1 FA resigning this offseason. He was playing good enough to be a high end starting Center who can fill in at LT if the starter went down.
-
It’s hard to see. as the last 2 regimes destroyed this team. Expansion level bad but let’s look at his first offseason now FA: Hunt, Lewis, Robinson, and Clowney. Look like big hits his first draft XL, Sanders, and Wallace all look like studs along with Coker Brooks, hopefully we will see next week. Can’t wait to see the roster after another season of getting his guys in.

My favorite in yet traded down to get an additional 2 this year. And a 1st next year Edge Rusher Stud athletic safety Big monster TE to run 2 TE sets with him and Sanders a solid CB2 candidate A Chubba replacement at RB a deep threat WR
-
Pending Evero is back. traded down. Taking the Giants 2nd, next years 1st, and their 2023 1st rd pick. Deonte Banks (athletic young CB, who just got benched) got a high upside edge rusher in Williams Barron is a versatile CB, who would fit and be a day 1 impact guy in Evero’s defense. Traded down again and got a athletic WR next 2, got a good TE and RB. With Chubba and all our TEs not named Sanders hitting FA. Backfilled those spots with talent. Both will seeing playing time in this offense

With the first pick, don't draft a QB? Draft a DE? C'mon!
ncfan replied to TD alt's topic in Carolina Panthers
Unless your whole front office (the football guys, Not Tepper) are convinced a certain QB is the top prospect and a Franchise guy that can carry your team. Then trade down. There are only 2 QBs really looked at as top 10-15 worthy QBs in this draft, and there are multiple other QB hungry teams like Jets, Giants, Browns, Raiders, Titans, etc fighting for 1. We have about as many holes as an expansion team. And 1-2 guys isn’t going to move the needle. Luckily for us, this seems to be a strong Defensive class. Add another top 50 pick in a trade down for another body. -
Even a month earlier than last years thread got started. Ill start I’m not over the moon with any of these QBs to the point that I’d take them over a trade down and fill some of the thousand other holes on this Roster Traded down with Vegas who try to make a splash going up for Sheduer with TB12 as the new partial owner. We net their 2nd rounder and 5th along with next years 1st. 1st pick seems like a reach as where he is being mocked currently. But I’m going off projection. Walker is not only a local kid. but he is that Alpha Dog we desperately need on that defense. He a stud off ball linebacker but a machine as a pass rusher (Georgia’s leader in sacks last year, 3 sacks against a Texas team Saturday who’s LT is projected top 2 in this class at his position). Walker and Wallace hopefully become the next stud LB combo that we’ve had over the year from Luke/TD, TD/Beason, Morgan/Fields and beyond. Next 2 picks focus on the DL that’s been Charmin soft without Brown. Again a theme of the past. For the most part, all of the Panthers top defenses have had a good duo (not just 1) at DT. To help stop the run and open up things for those LBs. Ask Luke and Morgan how great it was to have Star/Kk or Jenkins/Bukner. This defense has not been able to stop the run at all since Rivera left. And that needs to change. that being said. Get a solid DT to Pair with a Brown then a big physical SDE that reminds me of AJ Epenesa coming out. next took a QB. A toolsy guy who may or may not be around. But someone who can sit and hopefully groom down the road to be a high level backup at worst case scenario. 4th rd: went with a RB. I’d love to have Chubba back. But we don’t have the most cap space and a ton of holes. We have to sign a starting Center, a vet starting QB, and possibly Johnson if Mingo doesn’t progress. Canales claims to want to run the ball a lot. Not sure if we aren’t because we’re down 2-3 scores by the end of the 1st quarter every game. But you need multiple RBs. In Seattle when Canales was there. The year after they took Kenneth Walker 41st overall, they turned around and drafted another RB 52nd overall the very next year. hopefully the Defense will turn it around next year. Then worse case scenario, we package the 2 1sts and move up for a QB in a class that people seem to be higher on.

Would you trade back from pick #101 to add a fifth rounder?
ncfan replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
All depends on how far or what you got in return. trade down 5 spots for an additional 5th-6th rd pic. trading down 10+ spots for Pennie’s. No. if there is a single guy your deadset on at 101. I’m not picking up the phone.
