Once the initial offensive script plays are done, woof. Feel like there's been a few games this year where the initial drive is beautiful...and then Canales can't call a decent play for possessions at a time.
-
Correct, but looking at the list of Free Agents...which one is *actually* a starter or not just another Bryce? Daniel Jones....and? Again, happy to not pick up the extension, save the money, and sign a Sam Howell for cheaper. I just don't see them doing it and admitting defeat until they either have the answer on the roster, or a Top ___ pick.
-
Not debating that, I'm over Bryce. I didn't say he's better than 95% of the FAs, I said that he makes more sense. Just can't imagine the team actually moving on, without *something* else in place. They're going to sit back and say Bryce knows the system, he's here, we drafted him, yada yada and give him an edge over a Kenny Pickett. Add in Tepper, DM, and all involved with drafting him...I just don't see them not picking the option up.
-
Bryce is a starting QB, even if he's the 30th best one. Short of getting Daniel Jones in here, or trading for a QB, he's our starter until we draft another one. Not saying it's the right decision and I'm not a fan, but a one year commitment with the option...they're not going to blink at that IMO. If they start talking extension with him, we riot.

Bryce's option is 100% being picked up. I'd be floored if it wasn't. He's going to make more sense than 95% of the free agents, but it's just the option. Doesn't prevent us from going after somebody, drafting somebody, etc. Best case you draft a guy who shows promise, Bryce is on his option and plays well, and then we're in a Vikings style scenario with Darnold/McCarthy. Hopefully the early returns for us end up being better than the Vikings.

Almost like Kon might be decent. Who woulda thought?

Is Canales digging his own grave?
PanthersNCSU replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Biggest issue was the team essentially trusting Evero as the adult in the room IMO. Sure, Don Capers corpse is in the building and Canales has coaching friends...but we trusted a rookie HC, with minimal OC experience himself, who brought in guys with minimal experience, and didn't put a single former HC/"adult" in the room to help. Toss in Canales calling plays. Toss in Evero being Evero. Add in Bryce, Tepper, and the Panthers shitshow in general...and it's one hell of an uphill battle (that we largely created ourselves). I think Canales can be a good HC and has shown signs of promise with some of his bumps in the road, but we also didn't use Tepper's checkbook properly from the start. McVay had Wade Phillips. We needed our Wade Phillips. -
The stat that killed me, and I'm surely misremembering to an extent, but Josh Allen has only completed ONE pass of 20+ air yards since 2024. Andy Dalton had completed 2 in that same time period in his limited games. The Bills WR group is average on a good day. Josh Allen doesn't throw/complete passes deep anymore since Diggs left. So, make that beat you. Trust your corners to cover. Which...Evero will refuse to do 90% of the time. Random thought that popped in my head also, but I remember a 3rd and 1 play. Josh watches Horn back off Shakir (maybe?) about 7 yards. Josh throws a quick slant as soon as the ball is snapped, first down. Just a good team and QB exposing our poo. We're so afraid to give up a big play. Which I get, but you can't preach creating turnovers while never taking chances.

I have Jordan Love and Josh Allen in fantasy. Thought about starting Love...but I'm worried it's all Jacobs. I would hope we can rebound and have a respectable loss, but feels like one hell of an uphill battle right now.

Horn, Tremayne, and Evans need more snaps on offense. Horn especially, he's a spark and one of our only players capable of making a big play. On defense...get Nick Scott the fug out of here please. Let Ransom play and learn. And when Moehrig's specialty is basically being a linebacker, and giving up an untouched TD to Cook when he whiffed (which he does too much)...oof. Draft a legit LB and a legit Safety in 2026.

Record wise, this is where a lot of us thought/HOPED to be this year. The bigger issue is the roller coaster ups and downs. Get a nice win....only to get blasted like we're an XFL team the next week, etc.. The ebbs and flows are normal for a team learning how to win and be decent, but the extremes are the concerning part. Partially on coaching, partially on QB, and flat out also because we're still a rebuilding team without a swath of talent and depth. There's a lot of blame to go around, but I think we're still seeing what many of us happily would've signed up for pre-season. We're .500, can hopefully still get to 7 or so wins, and we're seeing what needs to be fixed.

NFL trade deadline is November 4th

Beat the Bills and I wonder if Tepper's patience starts wearing off smelling playoffs and he gets involved again. -
A couple good LBs would take us into really good territory. I'm still hesitant to say we're anything other than average, but Dan has the defense in the right direction personnel wise.

300+ lb man, while running and bending, hyper extends his own leg to step on another man's leg (who wasn't exactly lighting it up) to get him out of the game. Call in the Mythbusters (RIP) and Sports Science guy (RIP)

Hopeful that the 2025 draft is a sign of the new regime, and that 2024 was a a hangover from the old. I imagine somebody like Tillis not being hired until a couple months before the draft wouldn't come in and rock the boat too much. Give input, but still feeling the situation out. 2025 was more of his "first" draft here in my eyes.

Weirdly think there's a better chance we pull off the upset with Dalton. Canales might call some plays that he didn't trust Bryce with, and if we can get a halfway decent Dalton game (and run the hell out of the ball), I think we can stay in it. The Bills offense seems like hot garbage this year and then gets hot in spurts. Josh's scrambling is the biggest issue, if we can contain Cook.

What's the best way to split RB carries?
PanthersNCSU replied to Khaki Lackey's topic in Carolina Panthers
Whatever it is, alternating drives ain't it. As said above, ride the hot hand. Give Chuba 10 carries a game, but right now that means spelling Rico until he falters. -
Give me Jameis and let's get weird

Where do you fall on the Bryce Young spectrum?
PanthersNCSU replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not a franchise changing guy, but there's only a handful of those in the league. His peak is probably a Top 12-15 QB with a great situation around him. Is that the answer you want? No, but is it better than some? Sure...but he's still got to get to that top end level on a consistent basis which seems highly unlikely. -
PRO FOOTBALL FOCUS: Top 15 NFL rookies through Week 6
PanthersNCSU replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Please Lord let the 2026 draft class be similar to this one. At this point, if we get a little out of 2024 (even if depth), a *hopefully* great 2025 that gives multiple starters, and then put together another good group in 2026...that's how you rebuild. Build the rest of the team, and then Bryce has either proven enough to stay on at a discounted starter salary, or the roster is built for the next rookie QB contract or plop a vet down and roll. -
Even if you have an average LT...you bite the bullet and pay them and figure it out. Because the other side of that coin is Byron Bell or trying to find a LT again for a few years.

Join me in betting against the Panthers this season
PanthersNCSU replied to Super Grateful's topic in Carolina Panthers
Jets opened as favorites...now dogs. ...anybody else bet against the Panthers as a happiness hedge every week? Jump on in now, Jets money line is +100. Panthers lose, win money for our troubles. Panthers win, I'm happy to lose my money. -
Dak didn't handle pressure well yesterday, and we can't get home with 4. But we rarely blitzed, letting him sit back and pick holes in the zone. The play with the ridiculous roughing call...perfect play to force a turnover with the airball he threw up. If we want to take the next step, Evero has to trust the secondary to cover and bring the blitz if we're going to force any turnovers or get sacks.
