Assuming it's done do you select a qb this year or wait?
CPcavedweller replied to Panthero's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fields is never leaving Pittsburgh. I know that they are suggesting that Wilson will be back, however if he has a calf injury, and it’s that bad, he risks rupturing his Achilles for peanuts. Now I don’t know if it’s better to go ahead and slice the tendon or to let it heal, but Wilson would be an idiot to subject himself to the risk of a tear. That would mean that Fields will be in Pittsburgh, and he has the raw talent to make a front office question if he should be resigned or not. For me, I think you keep Fields and try to develop him slowly, something the Bears had no interest in doing. He could, quite easily, turn into a Hurts type with more tangible physical gifts with the correct coaching. -
How did nobody catch this before drafting him?
CPcavedweller replied to Knaakedup's topic in Carolina Panthers
He hit the lottery. Good for him. Now he’s set for life. Just have to hang on two more years and he never has to work a day in his life. -
Bryce got benched, but the problem is still the problem
CPcavedweller replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
Canales will not be fired, I don’t believe. we have enough weapons on offense to compete with even average QB play. That’s what Canales has shown in the past and I expect nothing different with Dalton starting. -
He has an average arm by NFL standards.

Quinn Ewers isn’t even the best QB on his own team. If we would be consider taking Ewers in the Top 5, we may as well trade down and draft our core of players for the 2026 QB class. I also expect Dalton to play really well. We have an offensive core that can win games now with even average quarterback play.

Last year, the Panthers looked like an NFL team twice, for 1.5 games. One of those games was when Dalton played, the other was the second half against Green Bay. Under Wilks, the Panthers were also able to gain a sense of normalcy for a team that looked like it sucked. Posts like this remind me that people here do not understand football. Offense, defense, and special teams are not played in a vacuum. The success and failure, of each unit is dependent upon that of the other units. As it relates to defense, you cannot expect a group to continuously make stops, hold the other team to field goals, and force turnovers when your offense gains a single first down in the first half. Not 3rd down conversion, a first down. you are going to be surprised at how much more cohesive the entire team looks with an offense run by a veteran, under Canales who has proven wholly capable of what he’s being tasked with. My best guess is that Dalton throws for between 245 and 300 yards, one or two touchdowns, and Johnson has his first 100 yard game as a Panther. Chubba and Miles will combine for over 100 yards rushing, and everyone stops talking about Bryce. We invested a ton of money in the offensive line, and have sufficient weapons for a competent quarterback to win games. So long as Tepper stays out of it, I think Bryce’s last start was Sunday. He is gone, and I don’t think any other team will start him, or even make him a back-up. What he has isn’t fixable, and it isn’t the Panthers fault.
-
He didn’t earn the right to be taken number one overall. It was handed to him by the Tepper family who, against the advice of the head coach they paid millions to, insisted we take Young. I halfway think the push to trade up to number one was done because Tepper was infatuated with Bryce and Alabama in general. It’s a case study in not letting your emotions cloud your judgment. It’s why recusal exists in the judiciary. It’s why Tepper should never be involved in another draft decision. I am excited for Dalton. I saw how Baker and Geno changed once they got to Canales and I really think people are going to be shocked when Diontae has a 100 yard game and Adam gets 8 or 9 receptions this week. The Panthers will look like a competent team which will take pressure off of the defense.

There is no reasonable person who would think the way Bryce has played is “fine”. There will be a lot of coach blaming, of organization blaming, etc. I will give those people this, the organization failed by letting Sam go and they also failed Baker by bringing him here to begin with. however Bryce, his issues transcend coaching and roster structure. Bro has to jump to complete a slant for crying out loud. He threw into double coverage while being stared down by the defender. He runs around like he’s at Alabama playing Mercer again. I knew Bryce wasn’t NFL material by how he played against comparable competition to the talent level at Alabama. By the same token, I knew CJ would be a dude by how he played against UGA. He just made the throws you’d expect from an NFL starter.
-
I think you’re going to be surprised by how well Dalton plays. Look at what Canales did with Geno and Baker.

There is no quarterback worthy of a Top 3 or 4 pick in this class anyway. People keep talking about Ewers but he’s not getting his job back and he likely transfers to finish his college career at Miami or something under Shannon Dawson’s air raid. Beck plays on the most talented team in the country and still manages to look average. Sanders looks good, has good mobility, consistency, precision, and arm strength and may be the only one I’d consider taking high. I also think Kyle McCord will rocket up draft boards in the offseason. He’s a pro typical dude that had enough of the Ohio State nonsense. Michigan was otherworldly the last two years and he was treated like garbage.

Bro, he is pathetic in the same way most other 5’10 dudes of average build would be pathetic on a football field. At some point, heart and effort don’t account for poo. He doesn’t physically have the tools. If Bryce was 6’3, he would probably be on the same plane as Stroud, but he isn’t. He’s 5’10, 180 lbs, in full football gear. That is like me showing up to the stadium. I can also throw a football about 55 yards in the air. That doesn’t make me an NFL quarterback though.

Hopefully they watched the broadcast of Bryce’s “little jump pass”.

Worse To Watch: Jimmy Clausen Era or Bryce Young Era?
CPcavedweller replied to PantherBoy95's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bryce and it’s not even close. -
so I've got to ask.. is it worth it being a fan of this team?
CPcavedweller replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
You don’t let go of your fandom, you just stop scheduling activities around the ability to watch/attend games. I watched every game that Jimmy Clausen started, waiting to see if Fox would give Armanti a shot, which he never did. I watched the entire game yesterday hoping to see Andy Dalton come in. Every new drive, I’d chuckle, or scoff, when Bryce came back out. The pinnacle for me was the “little jump pass” comment. It’s so bad I can’t look away. I don’t have any feelings about the outcome of the game, but the Panthers are so bad right now it’s hard to turn away. Seeing Adam Theilen almost throw his helmet down, seeing Diontae Johnson shake his head after every play and show zero emotion after a catch, seeing everyone sort of just tip toe around Bryce, is worth it. But they realize the same thing that we do, it isn’t Bryce’s fault that he’s 5’10 and it isn’t his fault that coaches won’t bench him. This goes to the top. -
Sell me on Beck, Ewers, Sanders, Ward, etc.

Joey could have left App last year. However, with one year left, why leave the system you’re in when you can just strengthen your current position? He’s probably the best quarterback in North Carolina right now, which is hilarious to me. -
Arms to Edward’s never got a shot at QB because John Fox was a tool bag. Armanti, especially in todays NFL, would have been a much better choice than Jimmy Clausen, who was also a much better choice than Bryce Young.

He makes decisions that make you go hmm…and makes others that make you go “wow”. But I was sold on him after the first drive at UNC last year. Those timing out routes got me. he will be drafted, I wonder where to. I don’t trust the Panthers to do the sensible thing and pass on guys who, while worth it in THIS draft, are not worth it compared to a core you could build by trading down. I do believe Joey would be a great developmental guy though. He’s got the size, the speed, the awareness, the arm strength and accuracy, and intangibles you want. I’d take him over Bryce, right now. I know that much. -
Kamala says HELLOOOO… They are following the same playbook, hide from the media, hide from the requirement that you defend your record publicly.

At 5’10 and an avid connoisseur of all levels of football, I can confidently say that Bryce should be traded to the Toronto Argonauts for some pure maple syrup. -

Saw Shedeur throw a frozen rope 60 yards in the air, on a dime, on the move. He also makes timing throws, he plays within the pocket and escapes when necessary, which is often. I don’t care for the others. im good with trading back three spots and taking Travis Hunter, and then drafting App State’s QB in the 4th round. He’s a gunslinger with speed, plays well within the pocket, runs a 4.6 or so, is 6’3, and can make any throw on the field with pace and precision. some people will point to the Clemson game as a reason not to but that’s not really a fair assessment considering the receivers couldn’t get off of press coverage and App has four new offensive linemen playing. In their bowl game in a monsoon last year, RG3 said something to the effect of “I know what it’s like to throw the ball in the rain, and if NFL scouts weren’t paying attention before, they need to be paying attention now”. Dude threw for 220 yards in a game that saw something like 4 to 6 inches of rain. -

Dalton completely altered the culture of a moribund Cincinnati franchise. What do you mean, not a winner? -
I think Young needs a sports psychologist…..

He looks exactly like he looked at Alabama. And that is the problem. You have 2 seconds to throw in the NFL, not 12. -

Bro, you literally banned me for a week for saying this last year. I’ll be shipping you some gourmet crow.
