Top 5 QBs taken over the last 12 years
CPcavedweller replied to Cdparr7's topic in Carolina Panthers
Which is what I've been saying this whole time and people are getting upset about it. You have to go BPA. If there is no Lawrence, Luck, Newton, Manning, Rivers, Joe Burrow, you don't take a QB. I don't think Stroud or Young are any of those guys. Would hate to get a Top 5 pick wrong. -
Rams Offering Two (Future) Firsts for Burns
CPcavedweller replied to OnlyPantherFaninMaine's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we were to draft Will Anderson on 2023, I'd say go for it. -
One guy didn't win the football game when he had the chance though, and that guy is Eddy Piñiero. He had two opportunities to win and flailed like a chicken with its head half cut off. It was cringy to see the offense and defense make such amazing plays in tough situations and then the kicker misses two gimmes.

You think Hooker is the best in this class? He is the definition of a system QB. Look at every QB and their stats who has played for Heupel. I believe his last protege to be drafted in the 1st round was Drew Lock. People said many of the same things about Lock as they are saying about Hooker. It's a systems thing. Even C.J. Stroud makes me pause because literally everyone who plays in that offense puts up mind boggling numbers. Why? The talent surrounding them, generally, has the potential to develop into star NFL players. It's like playing on an All-Star team against the worst team in Little League 90% of the time. You see who guys really are when they get to the top. For Hooker, you may see who he is against Georgia. For Stroud you see who he is against Michigan. That's not because those are the best teams but because those are the teams you match-up with talent wise. I won't even say Alabama for Hooker because it was painfully obvious his success was largely due to the scheme getting Hyatt wide ass open all day long. Sure, Hooker hit the throw but you're not going to get guys that open. I want tight window throws accross the field, 40 yard ropes into the bucket, escapability, the ability to read the defense pre and post snap. I just am not sold on Hooker, at all, especially where he may end up being drafted. If you put Hooker with someone like Andy Reid he may be able to succeed because Andy Reid is the best offensive football coach, potentially ever. However we aren't going to have Andy Reid or anyone that can hold his jock. That said, I don't see anyone I'd rather have over Will Anderson over any of them. You have to go best player available if you have a Top 10 pick. Many people here were wondering WTF we were doing when we drafted Kuechly because we had Jon Beason and Thomas Davis. Well that worked out well. Many people wondered why we drafted Short and Star back to back, that worked out well. You go BPA and good things tend to happen. I'd also trade Horn if we could get a 1st rounder back. Then I'd spend that on an inside linebacker or safety. Cornerbacks help, but they don't win games. They can't take over games the way linebackers and pass rushers do. The value just isn't there if the rest of your defense isn't built.

I don't think we will be there to take Young or Stroud. I'd like either, and if we can't get either then we need to take Alabama's DE in Will Anderson. He is a stud with the same measurables of Mica Parsons who absolutely wrecks poo. If we don't go that route I'd like a game breaking wide receiver or Tight End, if one were valued that high. If not that, I think we need a top flight safety or inside linebacker. I'd like to get a developmental guy like Grayson McCall in the 2nd round. People get upset about this but the value in that pick is insane. I expect his draft stock to go up in evaluation season though so we may not be there to pick him up.

Would like to see Baker or Darnold get a shot. Specifically I'd like to see Darnold. Rhule is a turd, that much is obvious to everyone by now.
-
Steve Wilks has taken the same roster as Rhule to two should be wins with a USFL quarterback. Give me Wilks with his own staff and Matt Corral/another QB in the draft, preferably Grayson McCall. I think a lot of people are sleeping on what a real NFL off-season without a sham QB competition would do for a guy with the physical traits of Matt Corral. He likely has the quickest release in the league already, he just needs the mental work which can only come from doing which Rhule didn't allow him to do. Believe it or not, defense still wins championships. Think 13-3, 28-3, 33-9, etc. Defense won those games. Give me Wilks all day.
-
No, Will Levis is the 2nd coming of Josh Allen, haven't you heard? Speaking of which I find it odd that people hate on Grayson McCall going to Coastal when the two best QB's in the league went to Texas Tech and Wyoming.
-
Who wants to see what he can do with the offensive line and run game now actually looking like an NFL group? Without Rhule and Brady, I'd be inclined to give Darnold a shot to prove himself again. If we aren't going for the playoffs this year, generate trade bait or see what you have heading into 2023.

Derrick Brown is really starting to dominate
CPcavedweller replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
Where have you been? The huddle wanted him cut or traded halfway into his rookiebyear. A few of us said "wait until year 3". Now the huddle loves him of course. I sort of want Darnold back to see how he could do without Rhule and Joe Brady. -
Grayson McCall is out here dropping dimes. Receivers dropped two perfectly placed 40+ yard balls. He's going to come out as the most precise thrower in the 2023 draft. May be overlooked because he's at Coastal but make no mistake, he's the real deal. But yall will mistake, just like you did with Parsons. Yall are going to overestimate guys like Hooker and Levis while ignoring this dude. Yet many of you all wanted Malik Willis despite him going to Liberty. Make fun of me for this while you can. It won't last long.

P.J is 5'11..no problem with batted balls
CPcavedweller replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's not just because he's outside the pocket. Offensive line technique can get defenders arms down and they weren't adjusting early on with Rhule here. I think the tandem of mcadoo and Wilks is 25 times what McAdoo and Rhule was. I'd like to see Baker get another shot with Wilks as the head coach. -
What’s your 2023 QB big board (including Corral)
CPcavedweller replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
1. Corral 2. Grayson McCall 3. Anthony Richardson (big developmental project) The others most people are listing will be top of the 1st round picks and I'd rather use that on a killer receiver or pass rusher. McCall is going to surprise a lot of Huddlers when draft evaluation time gets here. Dude has thrown I think 5 or 6 interceptions in two years. If you all want to say he's a system QB, fine. Hendon Hooker is the epitome of a system QB. Stroud is an Ohio State QB which makes me wary. It's hard to evaluate him because of the surrounding talent. I'd take Young but I don't think he's going to be there for us. -
8 of our 10 remaining games are winnable.
CPcavedweller replied to thunderraiden's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not with PJ Walker at QB they aren't. As good as he was on Sunday, lest we forget the week before? If Sam comes back, they still aren't. I think Baker and Sam would both benefit greatly from the exclusion of Rhule from the offensive game plan, so hopefully we get the chance for them to put something on film for some trade bait. -
You wonder if Tepper isn't going to go the Mike Tomlin route. Wilks provides that.
-
Tepper is going to want a guy like Mike Tomlin and Wilks seems to be very similar in terms of his demeanor and how he would build a team. He also comes from the McDermott school who obviously has ties to this organization so give me Wilks, or give me death. He's a respected coach who will be able to recruit whatever coaching talent that there is in the league. Players want to play for him. He's local. Just give him a shot. This organization needs internal repairs after the damage Rhule has done and you do that with a guy like Wilks. Absent some coach like Lefleur or McVay, Wilks is good. Dude coached a game against one of the most explosive offenses in the league and held them to 24 points on a day where we barely had 150 total yards on offense.

Yeah, there is already a thread on this bro.

Trade CMC = most rushing yards on the year
CPcavedweller replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
When used correctly, CMC was more than a running back. He was also our best wide receiver. -
This is the NFL. Talent wins. If you want to keep fighting for .500, you try for a playoff push.
-
Correct. Not here to talk about making the playoffs, or whether we should even try. I think, based on the state of our roster, that we should....tank. I don't really care about any of the QB's in the top of the draft but there are some potential defensive guys who can be cornerstones, and we already have a guy with all the physical tools you want in Corral. It would suck to end up at 7-10 or 8-9 and still make the playoffs.

I didn't say I fuging WANTED HARTMAN. I said if I had to choose between taking Stroud first or Hartman later, give me Hartman later. McCall isn't a system QB. Yall say he's a triple option QB but he threw for 400 yards and 3 or 4 touchdowns a week ago. He broke Tua's passer efficiency record. McCall is Coastal's offense whereas Hooker and Stroud are a product of theirs. You put McCall in an Ohio State uniform and it would be about the same as Stroud. The point is that much like the 2022 draft, there are no QB's worthy of a Top 5, or even 10 pick. You don't reach for a QB at one. There is no Trevor Lawrence, Cam Newton, Mahomes, etc. type of guys. Maybe you take Bo Nix on Day 3? But you don't take Stroud at one, sorry. That's a reach. You go Best Player Available all draft.
