The Read Optional:Was Bryce Young's leap for real?
CPcavedweller replied to lumbeecheraw75's topic in Carolina Panthers
As long as we don’t go back to Frank Reich where we would throw out of shotgun and run from under center, almost exclusively, I’ll be perfectly fine. Run empty sets and make the reads easier for the QB’s. If we have the receiving core for it, go for it. -
Part of me has started prepping for more 42-14 regular season scores. It wasn't the Browns game that did that because it is preseason. But it exposed the lack of depth the Panthers have. Also, the fact the Browns 2nd team managed to get to the Panthers 21, before ultimately winning out on a 4th and 1 where Stefanski went empty with a rookie QB, is concerning. The Browns also should have had a first down their first drive but Diontae dropped a ball and the receiver didn't get enough depth on 2nd down where he caught the ball at the sticks. concern level is high.

Mike Jackson and Jaycee are both really good, as a duo, as well. They got disrespected in this. I also think they overvalue our QB room. Even though the Browns have Flacco, Pickett, and Sanders, I'd put them over Young and Dalton.

The Read Optional:Was Bryce Young's leap for real?
CPcavedweller replied to lumbeecheraw75's topic in Carolina Panthers
From where he started, it was a leap. In terms of NFL QB play, it was hardly average. We got so used to the team being so utterly and completely terrible that any improvement seemed massive. He next step is average. It isn't Top 10. It's Top 16. If we tank again this year, he is probably gone. At which point I say we trade for someone on a favorable contract with high upside. But that's just me. -
Evero?!?! Should he be on the Hot Seat
CPcavedweller replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
3-4 doesn't suck. It all depends on your personnel, and how you use them. Personally, I like the 4-3 and the flexibility that affords in going to nickel coverage while still maintaining a true four man front. That said, Evero shouldn't be employed by the Carolina Panthers right now. Literally no one in NFL history could have LED a defense to the worst defense in NFL history and still manage to have a job. That is absurd. -
The team isn’t going to be kicking 70 yard field goals unless time is running out. That leaves the opposing team also only needing about 12 yards to be in FG range.

We really talking about firing Canales already? Come on guys.

Sounds like you need to go work for a new company if this type of humor isn't appreciated.

He struggled against starters? He got the offense to the Panthers 21, where Stefanski in his infinite wisdom went into an empty set, where Wonnum, I believe, made it into the backfield virtually untouched in about 0.62 seconds. The first drive should have been extended but Johnson missed a catch and I believe their tight end, or slot receiver, didn't get the correct depth on a hitch. I don't think he struggled against any of the Panthers defense if I'm being honest. And if that's what his struggling looks like, then trade for him now. I've seen struggle the past two years, that wasn't it. -

And had he not looked good then you would have said “see, he sucks”. All I know is that he looked like a first round quarterback. If he works out, like Mr. Ochocinco said, some people are getting fired. He’s a massive brand and him being successful could completely shift the vibe in Cleveland, sort of how Can did for Charlotte. -

He looked about how I expected. People are going to say he held the ball too long on the scrambles but Patrick Mahomes does that 6 times a game. The same exact thing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Scramble and find an open guy. that’s part of what makes Mahomes, Mahomes, ya know? The two touchdowns were starting QB throws though. Jaxson Dart looked good too. Cam Ward, to me, looked horrible. I know his stat line was okay but man his mechanics are the worst for a starting QB in the league right now. He threw more than half of his balls off of his back foot with zero pressure on him. -

See, that’s disinformation too. You cannot possibly get under my skin in any way, shape, or form. I told you I hated that word. -
I want to see the two pass rushers make passing up Jalen Walker, or whatever his name was, make sense. I also want to see Tet make my preference for Golden or Warren look stupid (I don't think he will. I think my belief in needing Warren or Golden will be reaffirmed but I'm not even an armchair GM. I'm just a chair. So broke I can't have an armchair).

I'll withhold judgment on Pickens until he gets balls from an actual QB. Kenny Pickett is hot garbage. I also think Arthur Smith is an issue in Pittsburgh. Perhaps it's Tomlin, I don't know. -

That's disinformation. There is a controversy that began when teams were leaking that they wouldn't consider taking Sanders before he ever even had a workout or an interview. Tyler Shough was taken before him for crying out loud. Dylan Gabriel who is half the athlete of Bryce Young yet the same height. Jalen Milroe who lost to Vanderbilt with the collection of talent that Alabama has. Jaxson Dart who was average, at best, in a Lane Kiffin offense which is known to actually be a detriment to QB prospects. There certainly was controversy, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. -

Chase and Higgins are the only real competition here. Those are two true 1's. I wouldn't want Pickens or Lamb on the Panthers, because of the attitudes, but as receivers, they are probably the best or second best duo. Both, like Chase and Higgins, are true ones. We also don't know what Pickens can really do considering who he has had throwing him the ball. -

you're out of your depth here bud. Again, with the misinformation. I don't have and never have been prescribed anything but an antibiotic after I met your mom once. -

Nah. If I prefer anything it's Hill and the other dude in Miami. But I still think this duo in Dallas is really good. Doesn't matter because none of them are making it to the Superb Owl anyway. -

That's dis AND mis information. I don't live in a tree. That's why I hate those terms. They suck and should never be used. You're either lying or you're not. Just say that. Dis or mis implies that there is some truth there. And you're a liar. I don't live in a tree. -

It sure was. I went back and re-watched the 2015 playoffs as well. I don't recall ever seeing a stretch of MLB play like that in the NFL. That was better than anything I saw out of Urlacher or Lewis, and both of those guys were great but they were also surrounded by greatness. -

You remember when Bryce was benched last season? A lot of people got very defensive over Bryce, saying the Panthers had failed him. Well, here we are. I honestly think that line of thought is related to factors other than their play, which I won't name here, but so be it. -

My whole issue with the Sanders saga is the talk of his lack of physical tools. We drafted a literal a average man off the street first overall, and traded the farm to do it. He's got below average arm strength, complete outlier in height (if you like box and whisker plots), and average speed. All I know is that if Bryce had gone to Colorado, he would have been a fourth round pick and had Sanders gone to Alabama, he would have been a first round pick. The school matters, the college coaching matters, and I think that NFL teams, particularly coaches, were worried that if they drafted Shedeur, and the team failed, then Neon Deion would be there willing and ready to take an NFL Head Coaching job. 1. Big 12 offensive player of the year 2. Unitas Award Winner 3. Multi-All Conference Player 4. highest completion % in FBS 5. 4th in touchdowns in FBS 6. I believe 1st in yards in FBS 7. Four year starting QB All while playing in a Pro Style offense where your leading running back had 300 yards, all year long. He took a lot of sacks, but he was constantly in predictable throwing situations because they couldn't run. He nearly brought them back against USC in 2023. All I'm saying is that his resume is not that of a 5th round QB. If Sanders wasn't his last name he would have, at the least, gone in the 2nd round. That said, I'm hoping he shows up and shows out. I didn't care, and typically don't care about other teams players, but with the amount of crap he has taken just by being Deion's son, I hope he makes it and charts his own path. -

Nah man. I really don't think so. Lamb and Pickens are probably the best duo in the league. I'd put them over what the Vikings and Bengals have as well. Not that it's going to matter. Seems like Jerry Jones is having money problems. -

Luke absolutely was. He was almost as important as a quarterback. I don't know if they quantify wins and losses attributed to linebacker but if they do, Luke was undervalued. He was a top 10 player in the league for years, and should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Had Luke played for the Ravens, he undoubtedly would have been a first ballot. Instead he languished here, and ultimately helped build a culture which the two Dave's worked to ruin. -

The dude for the Colts was really good for a few years, I forgot his name. I know that Luke was a unicorn. That said, instead of finding even above average LB play in the middle has not been on the teams to do list, and it's shown. We went from one end of the spectrum to the other, and I really, really hate it. There is nothing more beautiful than seeing an ILB just blast out of nowhere into the backfield to chase a back to the sideline. Or take off upfield against a tight end and bat a ball away. As I said though, we have a Top 7 corner in the league, and we finished with the worst defense in NFL history. For everyone saying that corner is more important than defensive linemen and the interior of the defense, you're crazy. College corners are more important because the hashes are wider and you've got more ground to cover. In the NFL, the play action is condensed and that middle of the defense becomes that much more important. Note, Sweisenger is going to be the next great MLB in the league. He may not be Luke but he is that quintessential type of dude.
