Know Your Foe: New England Patriots

Also, hell, who knows how many of us will even have power to see this game. Maybe Canales did us a favor. -

To be fair, if it wasn't for Randy Fasani leading two fourth-quarter drives to overcome the 16-0 deficit the starters bestowed upon him, the Panthers wouldn't have won any preseason games in 2002, either. And while some extremists on here will tell you even Fasani was better than Young, he was not. Also, losing 27-3 (field goal from a turnover) in preseason is pretty meaningless. With as many impactful guys being held out as it appears will be the case, just watch it for a bit, realize that losing these games means less than it will in a month, and pray no one is injured -- or this is an 0-17 outfit for sure. -
A lot of wideouts take time to develop, and they need QBs who can and are willing to get them the ball. I don't see a ton of that this year for a few reasons, so it'd behoove them to get him in space on some reverses.

Legette and Young are not a good fit. But Legette hasn't played a snap yet. I heard friends telling me DJ Moore was a bust for most of 2018. That aged like milk.

Bryce Young won't play in preseason opener

I believe you have those backwards. Also had some TD passes fumbled away and a few picks dropped. I'm not sure why it means so much to people to see Young play in a preseason game. Even if he plays great, it still doesn't mean anything about Week 1. -
I'm skeptical of that. The crowd was small in Charlotte, but the cameras were rolling.

I imagine he'll be more Matt Corral than Matt Moore.

I expect all-new quarterbacks, centers, left tackles and linebackers next year. Kicker's also a revolving door annually, so look for another one there as well.

Xavier Legette left practice early with lower leg injury

Meh, yearly occurrence. They're either invincible and awful or made of glass and good. Either way it's just more losing but we're used to this, so 17 more isn't that surprising. -

My wholly uneducated opinion is a torn Achilles. Anything that doesn't keep him out all year would be a welcome surprise. -
I'm aware and I'm hopeful of that being the case.

I should also add that it's absurdly early and there's no need to label any pick a bust (at any level) before they've played a full year at minimum. Now, that said, there's a 99% chance this year's draft yields no help for what's already not a top-35 lineup in the league (I'd take a handful of teams' twos over the ones here). At least we're used to this by now, so losing your first-round WR and second-round RB possibly for the year before they play a game (I'm hopeful for Brooks but remember when Foster's knee injury would have him out "a month or two" at first).

I've never seen a coach handle a question about a player like that, and said player not be out for the season. So it's almost assuredly a torn Achilles, or possibly a broken ankle. Either way, a mixture of misfortune and poor decision-making could well leave the Panthers' worst four drafts in franchise history as 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. Get excited for the Drive for 5 in '25!

I foresee Nathan Peterman as the next Panther QB
Joe Bear replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, it'd make Jack Plummer look better. -
That's fair. Not to compare them because Legette won't be at his level, but DJ Moore was not exceptional at anything in his first camp or preseason.
-
I remember when people mocked Gabbert to the Panthers at No. 1. I can't judge, I wanted Nick Fairley.
-
I like Bryce Young. I think he's a good guy, he was great at Alabama and not all the problems last year were his fault by far. The predictable routes and poor pass protection made him look worse than he should've. But I very much doubt he's physically equipped to be a franchise QB, and we're probably about to get a heavy dose of reality in the next few weeks.

Remaining schedule until the start of the season

I have tickets to the practice next Sunday but I've never been there -- what's the setup like/what should I know before we go in? -
I'd take one over none
