  2. 1) This is their last chance to get decent draft compensation. Is that better? A team who trades for a player on an expiring contract (the 5th year option in this hypothetical) is not going to give up much. The trade is essentially for the first right to sign the player to the second contract. 2) Compensatory pick is dependent on net free agency outcome and performance. A potential, late 3rd round pick next year is not as valuable as a 2nd round pick this year. These are forward-thinking roster moves that winning franchises make. I hope that makes sense to you.
  3. That couldn't be any more incorrect. They can still pick up his 5th year option and then trade him next offseason. They can still decline the option, let him walk in FA next year, and as long as he has a good season will likely bring them back a 3rd round comp. And they could do either of the above and then still franchise tag him afterwards and then trade him for what would be a really good return, assuming he continues to progress and stay out of trouble. All of this while he's only costing them $5.4 million against the cap and trading him would only get them $3 million in cap savings. It makes zero sense to trade him this offseason unless they have serious concerns about him or unless they get a godfather offer they can't turn down.

  5. Because there is a salary cap and he isn't a top priority for them. However, just because he's not a priority for them, it doesn't mean someone else wouldn't value him more. This is their last chance to get any compensation before letting him walk.
  6. And if he improves again this season, $15 million in 2026 would be a massive bargain for a WR of his ability and game breaking potential and something a team with a SB window will find a way to make sure it work for the year. Especially as even if they REALLY can't afford to keep him after that, they can then franchise tag him so they can trade him for a great return. Goff has a monster arm and combined with Williams speed gives the Lions one of the best explosive play threats in the league, which is a perfect compliment to both Amon Ra as their #1 and their run based offense. I just can't see any way they'd want to trade him if they didn't have serious concerns about him, likely because of his recent off field stuff.
  7. Aren't the 5th year option cap hits still sizeable? Google is telling me it would be $15.5 million to pick it up.
  8. Oilers looking like an early exit, Kings up 3-1 in game 2
  9. Players aside, how is DT our main target with our 1st rounder when our current best player on the team is also a DT, it just doesn't make sense. Sure, if Graham falls to 8, I think he's good enough to where you have to strongly consider him there, but I don't get how DT is our main target in the 1st round of this draft with all our other needs.
  10. They can get a 3rd if he just signs elsewhere so they will want a 1st without question.
  11. Same I was trying to say we trade Burns for Williams and a 1st before the 2023 season even started when he was under suspension.
  12. They don't have to pay him yet, still have up to 2 more years of control on his rookie contract. The Lions are in a WIN NOW mode right now, they aren't worried about the future are the moment, they have a legit SB window for the first time in their franchise history. So trading a player with his game breaking potential right now, even if the plan is to use their 1st on a WR to replace him, just doesn't make a lot of sense from the Lions standpoint, unless they are concerned about his off field stuff and being able to stay on the straight and narrow. Even a later pick, I'm not sure it's the right move for us right now because that means we're then banking on him as our #1 WR, and if he does something else dumb and gets suspended, we're screwed and it will further hinder Bryce's development in a critical year to see if he can be our QB moving forward. If the rumor was that we were reaching out trying to trade for him, I'd have been much more likely to be on the side of wanting to do it. But since it's coming from the Lions side in wanting to move him, it's just a big screaming red flag of concern to me.
  13. I wanted to include him in the Burns trade.
  14. We have a similar idea with roster aesthetic. Throw in a OL like Mbow/Trapilo, and that could be a stellar type of draft haul.
  15. If Ashton Jeanty is there at 8, we making bank. If nothing else, draft him and trade later.
  16. We already invested a lot into the interior, rather go edge
  17. I’d love this. If we could add a FS (maybe the Virginia guy) and sign Blackmon our roster would feel so much more complete.
  18. Except the high picks this year are almost all mid to late picks in most drafts. Ward is what QB4 last year? Hunter and Graham seem solid, but outside of that the LSU OT might be an OG, Jeanty played in a weak division and isn’t much better than Hampton, Carter looks good but only played edge one season and is weak against the run, Walker is undersized and has one year of good production, you could go on and on. We just saw us with pick 1 two drafts ago.
  19. Cap sites show the savings matches the dead cap around $5 mil if we cut Robinson post-June 1. So it’s either viewed as addition by subtraction or you keep him on the team until 2026 for what he can bring. He’s not bad…but at the same time has been hit/miss (and a few times pretty bad last year with the reserves next to him). Was one of the better guys at his spot league-wide when he was in NYC.
  20. True but I think people heard at a discount and ran with it. 6 teams in the top 10 are wanting to trade back. I think we mentioned ours could be had at a discount to get some conversations started. We should still get decent value despite the top 10 sucking outside of a couple players.
  21. You can't put Fitterers picks on Morgan. Morgan has 1 year of history to look at and we don't know how any of last years draft picks will pan out
  22. Bingo all the shhhttt stops right there we may get Fleeced in a sense because of what we typically expect to get in return for trading back in the first. But I’m here to say f the norm this is about assembling more talent to a team whose potential is extremely high. It’s about maneuvering around especially in rounds 1-3 to get players who will help us this year. The opportunity to add a few strong pieces on defense is what’s needed to really contend next season.
