Thielen extends drives and gives the offense another set of downs. I think he had something like 5 3rd/4th down conversions in the Eagles game. Without that, they blow us out and we probably don’t score 10 points. Not a yac guy, but he’s still a good medium range option. As other receivers come on I expect his snap count to decrease but guys like Thielen are so valuable. Teaching The intricacies of taking the game to the next level to the young guys.

So adding more players of that age to the group might not be appealing.

Rather have Pratt than Jaire. Pratt would help solidify the LB group in a big way IMO.

I hear you, buuuut.... Rozenboom is 28 (1 year deal) and Jewell is 30.

Here is what I think (and I agree): They like ILB and Rozeboom is good depth. Cherelus was solid for a reserve (PFF score 63.8 in 158 snaps). They like what they have seen from Ransom and Richardson at S so far, so we could have 3 starting-caliber safeties--no sense burying the young guys. (I think we are going to like our Safeties as they are--I also think we will add one of our UDFA with great ST abilities. They signed some really good athletes as UDFA safeties). I just do not see Scott making the roster if they watch any of his 2024 film. At CB, they think they have 3 with two who played a little bit last year (each had fewer than 35 snaps--they held their own--both scoring in the upper 50s on PFF). I think, if we add a player, we add a young CB much later who was cut during the preseason. I believe they want a preseason to see what they have in Bartholomew and Evans and Thornton, for that matter.

Think he'd likely take from Wallace not Jewell.

AND if you are looking for reasons NOT to sign him, here are a few: "Germaine Pratt has faced criticism for his performance, particularly in coverage and tackling, despite his high tackle numbers and turnover-generating ability. This must be a move to get a certain Edge player signed.

He was also trying to get a new deal and he and the Packers were far apart. I don't know the details, but after signing an $80M + contract with $30M signing bonus, I have to wonder what this guy was expecting. Playing fewer than half the games in that contract, he still felt he had negotiating power. I did not like giving Horn $100m for the same basic reason.

Good. We've kept some players a bit too long waiting for them to develop. (the bad? some of those who didn't do well for us went on to do well for others. Maybe they just needed more time; maybe it was bad coaching. Hard to say)

I think we like Jewell and Wallace at ILB. We 100% need depth but I doubt Pratt signs for that.

While true, he still only just turned 29 and he'd be replacing either Jewell or Rozeboom who are 30 and 28 respectively. I don't see his age stopping interest on our end if they think he can be a big enough of an upgrade for us

No, next it will be Free Agents, which is why I think the teams are going to hold the line. If they give out fully guarantees to a ton of this year's 2nd rounders, those same agents are going to start demanding it for the top FA's next offseason before the draft ever happens, something that they've never done before except Watson and everyone said it was dumb and they were right.

Zero chance he's coming to this franchise right now, regardless of local ties. We are at least two years away from being remotely desirable for free agents and cut casualties. But fun to play what if ...
